“How did you find a cherry tree, Jotaro? Can I have it?”
“Please let me take home one of the fish from your museum, (Y/N)!”
“C’mon, Margie, you don’t need to stay with Kakyoin! Come to my island!”
It was another normal day with your two friends, Kakyoin and Jotaro, playing Animal Crossing New Horizons until one of you crashed from a lack of sleep. Even better, it was one of the days where you could all come over to one person’s house and play together face-to-face. The only problem: you had a burning crush on Kakyoin, and Jotaro had caught on to it. Luckily, the day he found out, he was kind enough to swear his secrecy until you were ready.
And today, you told him you were ready.
"Kakyoin," Jotaro said, "(Y/N) and I are making a surprise for you on her island. Stay on your island, for now. Don’t ruin the surprise.”
“You got it,” Kakyoin answered. “Won’t we need to switch sides, though? So (Y/N) can hear you?”
Right. You also had hearing loss in your left ear, which is the side Jotaro usually took next to you.
“No need,” you told him. “We’re communicating with the game's chat so you can’t hear anything.”
Kakyoin nodded. “That makes sense. Okay. I’ll stay on this side and tend to my island.”
Now that Kakyoin was out of the way, it was time for the surprise to be made. Quickly, you and Jotaro started putting down the "tiles" right next to the entrance to your island. You made sure lots of other things were placed down beside the tiles, as well, in order to make the surprise even better. You could feel your heart quicken, but you knew you had to do it. If you didn't, you would slowly die inside from this little secret.
"Okay, Kakyoin, we're ready," Jotaro said. "You can come to (Y/N)'s island now."
You could feel sweat dripping down your back, your mind racing with different worries. What if he doesn't accept it? What if your friendship is awkward after this? Was this too cheesy? Should you just tell him directly?
No, you put lots of thought and effort into this. You were sure Kakyoin would love it.
"Okay, I've made it to your island," Kakyoin told you. Right when he entered, there were tiles on the floor, with words on them, saying, 'Kakyoin, will you be my boyfriend?'
"I didn't have the guts to tell you in person," you twiddled your thumbs, "so I decided to tell you in game. I really like you, I do. If you don't like me back, I hope we can still be friends."
Kakyoin chuckled a little bit, and smiled at you. "All of this, for me?" he asked. "You shouldn't have. Although, I was planning on asking you out the same way really soon."
You gasped. "You were?"
Kakyoin nodded. "So, yes, (Y/N). I'll be your boyfriend."
He cuddled you up close to him, and your wide grin couldn't be wiped off by anything. You looked at Jotaro, who gave you a slight smile before going back to his game. If it weren't for his help, you wouldn't have had the courage to do anything. You silently thanked him as you went back to your game, still leaning on Kakyoin.
Today was a good day.
