Work Text:

Coriolanus cherished the companionship of Sejanus in a way that transcended the ordinary bonds of friendship. In Sejanus's presence, he found a rare sanctuary where he could truly be himself, a privilege he seldom experienced even with his sweetheart, Lucy Gray.

Their connection was unlike Coriolanus's time with Lucy Gray, for it thrived in silence. Words were unnecessary; all they required was each other. Coriolanus yearned for the particular attention that only Sejanus could offer, while Sejanus sought solace in the firm yet gentle embrace of Coriolanus. The embrace spoke of a raw protectiveness and a palpable strength that enveloped them both. As Coriolanus held Sejanus, their eyes met—Coriolanus's calm, cool, blue gaze locked with Sejanus's big, soft, brown eyes. In those moments, they could lose themselves in each other's gaze, the world fading away as they immersed themselves in the connection they shared.

Sometimes, Coriolanus would intertwine his hands behind Sejanus's back, sending delightful shivers along Sejanus's spine. Sejanus, in turn, would bury his head in the comforting haven of his best friend's shoulder, still infused with the familiar scent of Capitol cologne. His hands would delicately clasp behind Coriolanus's neck, a silent affirmation of their bond. On days when solace was paramount, Coriolanus would cradle Sejanus in his lap, reminiscent of the nurturing gestures Tigris had once bestowed upon him.

Their story unfolded in the quiet moments, with the unspoken language of touch and shared gazes weaving a narrative that only they could comprehend. Each interaction was a chapter, written with the strokes of Coriolanus's hands in Sejanus's hair or the warmth of their intertwined fingers. It was a tale of two souls finding refuge in each other, their connection deepening with every unspoken word.

Coriolanus's affection for Sejanus was a sanctuary, a place where vulnerability was embraced and acceptance was unconditional. The narrative of their friendship echoed the essence of trust and understanding, a story told not through grand gestures but in the simplicity of shared moments.

Lucy Gray, Coriolanus's sweetheart, occupied a different space in his heart. Their love was adorned with words, spoken and unspoken, creating a melody that echoed through their shared experiences. Yet it was distinct from the silent symphony that played between Coriolanus and Sejanus.

In the grand tapestry of their lives, Sejanus's presence was a thread that added depth and richness. Their story was one of comfort found in the embrace of a friend, the security of shared silences, and the unspoken promises that bound them together. It was a tale that unfolded in the subtle nuances of their connection, a story written in the language of touch, gaze, and the silent whispers of the heart.

No matter how they embraced, it always felt oddly intimate, though not in the moment. In those moments, the connection between Coriolanus and Sejanus was wonderful and uplifting, carrying them to cloud nine. But afterward, especially in Coriolanus's reflections, it seemed like an exchange that shouldn't occur between mere friends, for that's what they were now, friends.

The mere thought of their newfound friendship filled Coriolanus with giddy excitement, and to shield himself from the confusing feelings that surrounded Sejanus, he shut them out. After all, he had a lovely girlfriend, Lucy Gray, the victor of the Hunger Games, with a little help from him. He loved her, or at least he believed he did. But did he truly love her, or was she just a relic from his past in the Capitol? Her touch seemed fragile as if she would crumble to dust. Sejanus, on the other hand, felt different.

When Coriolanus touched Sejanus—running his hand down his cheek, caressing his forehead, or patting his knee—it felt like his hand fit like a puzzle piece wherever it roamed on Sejanus's body. The reciprocity was evident; Sejanus displayed friendly affection by nuzzling their noses, squeezing Coriolanus's hand, or occasionally offering forehead kisses, though it remained within the bounds of friendship.

Coriolanus acknowledged the complexity of his emotions but decided to set those thoughts aside. The pair—him and Sejanus—were heading to the river, and he wasn't about to let intrusive thoughts about his love life spoil the trip. Besides, these feelings seemed one-sided, and he didn't want to burden Sejanus with discussions about a love he himself didn't comprehend.

After a cheerful journey filled with banter and jokes, they arrived at the river. While they hadn't brought a blanket, the soft grass beneath them proved more than sufficient for their comfort as they lay on their backs, gazing up at the sky.

"Hey," Sejanus said, turning on his side to face Coriolanus. Coriolanus mirrored the movement, and now their faces were mere inches apart.

"Yes?" Coriolanus responded softly.

"Did you ever go star gazing?" Coriolanus snorted dismissively and turned up his nose.

"And what kind of silly game is that?" Sejanus laughed at his friend's absurd tone.

"Look up."

Coriolanus turned onto his back again, attempting to make sense of the ordinary sky above.

"What's this supposed to be?" he asked, mildly annoyed.

As Coriolanus shifted his gaze towards the heavens, a magical transformation occurred. The ordinary sky metamorphosed into a celestial tapestry adorned with stars that shimmered like scattered diamonds against the velvet canvas of the night. Each star held its own story, twinkling with ethereal beauty.

Sejanus, with a mischievous glint in his eye, began to unravel the enchanting tales of the stars. He pointed to a particularly bright one, describing it as the North Star, a beacon of guidance for lost travelers. Its brilliance painted the darkness with hope and purpose.

"And that one there," Sejanus continued, his finger tracing a delicate constellation, "is Orion's Belt. A celestial warrior eternally hunting across the cosmos."

Coriolanus, once dismissive, found himself captivated by the celestial ballet above. The stars seemed to dance in a choreographed display, painting the canvas of the night with hues of silver and gold. Their collective radiance whispered the secrets of the universe to those willing to listen.

As Sejanus pointed out each constellation, Coriolanus discovered the beauty of connecting the dots in the sky, creating imaginary figures that told stories of gods, heroes, and mythical creatures. The sky became a living canvas, an ever-changing masterpiece that invited them to explore its secrets.

The Milky Way, a luminous river of stars, flowed across the expanse, weaving a tale of cosmic grandeur. Coriolanus found himself mesmerized by its sheer magnificence, a celestial river carrying the dreams and wonders of the universe.

Sejanus, with a contagious passion, began to recount ancient myths associated with the constellations. The stories came alive in the starry tapestry above, turning the night sky into a theater of celestial drama. Coriolanus felt a newfound appreciation for the stars, each one becoming a character in a cosmic play.

The beauty of the stars wasn't just in their brilliance but in the vastness of the cosmos they represented. Coriolanus felt a sense of awe, realizing that the stars he once dismissed as mere specks were distant suns, each potentially hosting its own worlds and mysteries.

As they continued to gaze into the celestial expanse, the stars painted a picture of unity and interconnectedness. Coriolanus saw constellations as celestial communities, stars working together to tell stories that transcended time and space.

Sejanus, sensing the profound impact the stars had on Coriolanus, fell into a thoughtful silence. The night sky, with its twinkling stars and cosmic wonders, became a shared sanctuary for the two friends. In that vastness, they found a space where conversations transcended the earthly and ventured into the realms of the extraordinary.

And so, beneath the starlit canopy, Coriolanus and Sejanus discovered that stargazing was not a silly game but a journey into the sublime, where the beauty of the universe unfolded in a myriad of twinkling lights, each star a testament to the boundless wonders that awaited those who dared to look up.

"And that one is not even a star; it's Jupiter," Sejanus declared with an air of authority.

"What's the difference? It's just stuff that's up there," Coriolanus remarked casually.

"Coriolanus! It's not just stuff. Jupiter was a failed star; it had everything but mass. Will now be just the biggest planet," Sejanus explained passionately, hoping to convey the significance of celestial bodies.

As they continued their celestial exploration, Sejanus directed Coriolanus's attention towards the planets visible in the night sky. He pointed to a bright orb, captivating in its radiant glow.

"Look there, Coriolanus. That's Venus, the evening star," Sejanus said, his eyes alight with enthusiasm. "It's often mistaken for a star, but it's a planet, our celestial neighbor, shining brightly in the twilight."

Coriolanus, still entranced by the beauty above, nodded with newfound interest. The night had become a canvas where planets joined the stars in their cosmic dance.

"And over there," Sejanus continued, pointing towards a reddish hue, "that's Mars. The god of war in ancient mythology has a fiery presence in our night sky."

Coriolanus observed the planets with a sense of wonder, realizing that each held its own allure and mystique. Venus, a radiant beacon, and Mars, a fiery wanderer, added layers of complexity to the celestial spectacle.

Sejanus, now immersed in the cosmic narrative, gestured towards a giant in the night sky. "That's Saturn, adorned with its majestic rings. A planet that carries the beauty of a cosmic jewel."

Coriolanus, captivated by the sight of Saturn, felt a deeper connection to the vastness of the universe. The planets, once distant and indistinct, now reveal themselves as celestial marvels, each with its own unique identity.

Sejanus's passion for the cosmos knew no bounds. "And beyond them all is the giant gas giant, Jupiter. A planet so massive it dwarfs the rest, a failed star that still commands a majestic presence in our celestial neighborhood."

Coriolanus, although still processing the concept of failed stars and planetary grandeur, couldn't help but appreciate the enormity of Jupiter. The night had transformed into a symphony of stars and planets, a cosmic orchestra playing a tune that resonated with the very essence of existence.

Sejanus, sensing Coriolanus's growing fascination, continued his astronomical discourse. "Each of these planets has its own story and its own role in the grand cosmic narrative. They're not just 'stuff up there'; they're celestial actors contributing to the timeless drama of the universe."

Coriolanus, feeling a surge of gratitude for Sejanus's celestial teachings, couldn't help but interject, "That's cool."

However, as Sejanus launched into a detailed rant about the intricacies of planetary formations and their celestial significance, Coriolanus found himself yearning for a different kind of closeness. Amidst the captivating tales of stars and planets, he desired a connection that transcended the astronomical wonders above.

He glanced at Sejanus, his friend engulfed in the cosmic monologue, and a subtle smile played on Coriolanus's lips. In that moment, he realized that the beauty of the universe extended beyond the stars and planets—it resided in the shared experiences and unspoken connections between two souls beneath the expansive, star-studded sky.

"And so, Coriolanus, that collision of elements and the dance of gravity shape the very fabric of the universe," Sejanus continued, unaware of the growing tension in the air.

Coriolanus, struggling to maintain focus, interjected abruptly, "That's cool, Sejanus. But you know what would be even cooler?"

Sejanus looked at Coriolanus with a mixture of curiosity and exasperation in his eyes. "What, Coryo?"

Coriolanus leaned in, closing the distance between them, his gaze fixated on Sejanus's lips. "This."

Before Sejanus could fully comprehend Coriolanus's intentions, their lips met in a soft, lingering kiss. The cosmic wonders above seemed to pause, granting a moment of unity between the two friends. The stars, the planets, and the universe witnessed a subtle shift in their relationship, acknowledging a connection that transcended the boundaries of friendship.

Coriolanus pulled away, a sly grin playing on his lips. "Now, that's my idea of cosmic perfection."

Sejanus caught off guard, stared at Coriolanus with a mix of surprise and realization. The night sky, once a canvas of astronomical marvels, now mirrored the subtle glow of shared emotions between the two.

As they sat beneath the stars and planets, a new chapter unfolded in the story of their friendship. The cosmic ballet continued above, indifferent to the human drama that played out beneath its celestial stage. Coriolanus and Sejanus, entwined in the beauty of the night, embraced the magic of the universe and the enchantment of their own connection.
