Work Text:

let's get married in vegas,

we don't need a guest list

i don't want to think too much

let's get matching tattoos

i don't want to think it through

baby i'm so stupid in love

Hyukkyu leans his cheek on his palm and smiles indulgently at Sanghyeok in front of him.

It was spontaneous, this sudden date. He had been lying down, considering the pros and cons of solo queue at the odd end of 11:36 when his favorite midlaner (sorry Jihoon) called him up to eat some chicken wings and drink.

Hyukkyu finds that he doesn’t mind it. This spontaneity. They were the type of people to think things through. Plan ten steps ahead and bring out plan B after plan B. Suddenly making plans like this, like they were just two stupid lovers who can’t get enough of each other, Hyukkyu doesn’t mind it at all.

Sanghyeok, unaware of the stare at him or perhaps too comfortable to care, simply downs another shot of soju.

“Look at this man go. Your fans would hardly believe it. Is the great Faker falling into alcoholism?” Hyukkyu jokes as he pushes the chicken wings closer to the other when he started reaching for it.

Sanghyeok just shakes his head playfully back. “Ah, what would Deft’s fans say when they found out you’re my drinking buddy? They would be appalled.”

The other was a little bit flushed, a little tipsy from the intake of alcohol. He doesn’t really sway from where he was sitting, but there’s a certain fluidity to him now that he has a few drinks in. A little bit softer around the edges.

Hyukkyu smiles around the cola he was sipping in, flattered and warm as always to be granted the honor of seeing Sanghyeok vulnerable and happy. It warms him in a way nothing ever could, to be allowed this side of him. A novelty only allowed to the people closest to the midlaner’s heart.

“We should get married.”

Hyukkyu blinks at the suddenness of the statement. He was left flat-footed for a moment before he found himself softly chuckling.

“I don’t think a chapel or a government office is open at this time Sanghyeok-ah.” Is what he replies. There was a looming more logical reason why they can’t get married here in South Korea, but it was a beautiful night and Hyukkyu is warm in the inside. Hyukkyu finds himself liking this reason more. And besides, with Sanghyeok so soft and happy, Hyukkyu finds himself not wanting to ruin that.

Sanghyeok doesn’t exactly pout, but it was close enough of an action that Hyukkyu finds himself hiding his grin behind his hand. It was a testament to how much the other had drank at the moment and the carry couldn’t help but find himself helplessly endeared.

“Why are you pouting?” Hyukkyu asks. “You really want to marry me that much?” He continues, reaching out to poke the bulging cheek filled with chicken. Sanghyeok looks up from where he was eating and gives Hyukkyu a serious look.

It was reminiscent of his looks on stage. More Faker than Sanghyeok at the moment, as if he was ready to enter a battle on the rift and come out victorious. But the flush on the bridge of his nose and his cheeks looking more like a hamster took away the usually intimidating aura around him.

“Hyukkyu,” He starts, voice filled with seriousness once he swallows that one bite of chicken. “I really do want to marry you. It’s not a joke.” Once again Hyukkyu finds himself faltering, caught surprised by the midlaner.

Silence persists for a moment and two before Hyukkyu finds himself flushing, heart pounding at the seriousness of the declaration. “Ah Sanghyeok-ah,” His knuckles rise to dab his cheeks, feeling the heat of it. “You can’t just say things like that. And what kind of proposal is this. Seriously,”

“I’m serious. What makes you think I’m joking?” The other asks. Sanghyeok then makes eye contact with the old lady at the counter and asks for the bill.

“Are you done eating? We haven’t finished-”

“Let’s get married Hyukkyu-ah.”

“Eh?? Wait, what? Ya- you didn’t even ask me-” Hyukkyu finds himself flustered, blushing and stuttering like he did when they first got into a relationship. Sanghyeok, like a force of nature that he was simply pays the bill.

Marriage. Seriously Sanghyeok-ah, so sudden. Springing this on this poor AD carry. His heart can’t take this you know.

Hyukkyu didn’t exactly not not  think of marriage. It’s not like he was that old despite Minseok's assertion and besides despite the coming military enlistment, he thinks he doesn’t mind squeezing out a few more years in his career.

But it would also be a lie if he said that he doesn’t think about it.

He thinks of the moments when they were able to wake up next to each other. The first thing he saw in the mornings were Sanghyeok’s face, mouth slightly agape as he sleeps with less grace than everyone probably had seen. The lines of the cover a soft indent in his face as he breathes. Warm from sleep he clings to Hyukkyu. Then slowly he wakes up, blinking the sleepiness from his eyes, a smile brightening his face when he catches Hyukkyu looking at him. A soft kiss given to him then, “Hyukkyu-ah, good morning." His name, the first word in Sanghyeok’s mouth.

Hyukkyu aches with something warm and fulfilling. A good ache that spreads from his chest to his limbs, filling him with a sense of giddiness that has him laughing happily. He wants that, he thinks to himself. And he feels stupid and foolish but also very in love as he reaches out to grab Sanghyeok’s wrist. “I understand, let’s get married.”

A smile lights up Sanghyeok’s face, wide and crooked. It was a smile not for the cameras or the fans, it was intimate and oh so happy. A smile just for Hyukkyu.

Together they exit the restaurant, giggling and jostling each other, feeling young and stupid and happy in a way that they haven’t felt for a long time.

He lets Sanghyeok grab him, follows him in the night, with the stars twinkling overhead, and he thinks to himself that he would follow Sanghyeok anywhere.

Sanghyeok looks back at him and he thinks that Sangyeok too would follow him to hell and back.

Hyukkyu has no idea where they were going but with the determined glint on Sanghyeok’s eyes, it was enough for him that Sanghyeok knows. Together they stumble into a street market. The stalls that were open can be counted on two hands, but they managed to find one that sells random trinkets.

In the dim light they crouch in front of one of the stalls picking up cheap rings and putting them down. Their shoulders brush with how close they are, Sanghyeok’s arm a solid line of heat from where it was pressed to his.

He gives the other a smile, happiness bubbling in his chest. It was returned, just as affectionate before the other jostles him gently. “Choose your ring Hyukkyu-ah.”

Hyukkyu answers with a hum and looks down at the glinting jewelry in front of him and absently thinks about how lucky they are that they haven’t been recognized at this point. A part of him knows that should be more alert, a new season is coming, and a scandal is the last thing they need. But also, its freeing, to be like this. To do things without a care in the world. And it makes him just a little bit giddy that Sanghyeok acts like this, like it’s okay for the world to know, like all he can see right now is Hyukkyu.

“How about this?”

It’s a dainty little thing, probably stainless steel. A thin band with half of a sun engraved, tiny little clouds beside it. On the matching ring, a moon was engraved, accompanied by little stars.

He takes it from Sanghyeok and observes it from his palm.

And he wonders when this happened. When did he fall so in love, that the fall doesn’t feel scary anymore. It’s comforting, this free falling. A constant warmth that nudges in his ribs. A look from Sanghyeok and that warmth rises, a smile and he feels like he’s swallowing sunlight, an i love you and he finds himself not needing the sun.

He feels open and dissected, all the softest parts of him brought out. And yet he’s not scared. He feels safe. Because Sanghyeok will keep him safe. Sanghyeok will look at the softest parts of him and give it a gentle kiss, touch it gently because he loves him . Sanghyeok loves him. And Hyukkyu does too.

It was perfect.

He puts the ring on his finger. It slides on smoothly, the silver glinting merrily. It looks like it belongs.

“Does it look good?” He asks, offering his hand to the other. Sanghyeok takes his hand, tilting it to the side as if making the ring shine in the light.

He smiles, gossamer soft. “Hmm. You look good.”

They take the ring and the old woman selling it wraps it in a box, a secretive smile on her face. She then points them to another stall on the end of the street. “I think they still have some leftover flowers selling there, if you need some.”

And so they go. They grab flowers, Hyukkyu doesn’t know what it was, but it was white and it was delicate, and comes in small clusters. It was wrapped in brown paper and handed to Hyukkyu.

Then they walk. It was dark, barely any light. A facsimile of a wedding march. Can it even be called that? But they walk hand in hand, Hyukkyu’s left in Sanghyeok’s right, swinging gently as they try to find a scenic place.

They end up in a tree-lined pathway, empty aside from them. Two deranged people who thought it was the perfect time to take a walk.

Hyukkyu stands in front of Sanghyeok. They were both bundled in thick coats, face flushed from the cold and happiness as they stand in front of each other.

Sanghyeok gives him a soft smile, face glowing from fondness. He takes a flower from the small bouquet, snapping the stem before tucking it into Hyukkyu’s ear.

Soft bubbles of happiness rising with him, the only way he can express it is to give a soft laugh, so so warm despite the winter around them.

Sanghyeok takes both of his hand in his. “I love you Hyukkyu-ah,” A pause in his words. He breathes in. And it feels like everything that happened was supposed to happen to lead to this. Sangyeok says I am a pillar, is what they said. For how long I stood. For how long I stayed steady. But you were mine. A constant in this storm. The bright light in this darkness. A flame that burns inside me. Constant. Always constant. A place I can come back to. A place I will always stay on. Because I yearn for you. Always. Endlessly. I love you and I don’t have enough words to encapsulate how I feel, so I guess ‘I love you will do.’ They laugh at the joke. I love you, forever and beyond. Because even forever feels too short when I spend it with you. So I will stay with you, as long as you will have me.

Then Hyukkyu, teary and gripping at Sanghyeok’s hand so tight, not as poetic, but just as sincere, says You are there. We have been here for so long, haven’t we? You are mine. It took me a long time to be sure of that. But I am now. I have been for a long time. Because you are mine and I don’t think I am anyone’s but yours. Stay, because I will have you for forever and beyond that.

Tears fall. Hands shake. And it was cold. But it was also not. They hold each other’s hands and slip in the rings.

Cheap rings. It would probably tint their finger green, probably would not last long. But it’s okay. Because they will last.

“Is it time to kiss the groom?”

Hyukkyu smiles at him.

“You may now kiss the groom.”

They had kissed a thousand times and more than that. But this was the sweetest. Hyukkyu’s arm wrap around Sanghyeok’s neck as the other hold his waist, dipping him slightly.

Warm. Sweet. Forever.

Hyukkyu finds himself laughing in Sanghyeok’s lips, drunk with happiness.

“Does that mean I’m shareholder of T1 now too?” Hyukkyu teases. It was Sanghyeok’s turn to laugh, forehead resting on Hyukkyu’s as his eyes scrunch in happiness.

“My, thank god the chapels are close, you only want me for my money don’t you?”

Hyukkyu giggles and presses a soft kiss on Sanghyeok’s lips. “Hmm. And your body too. Shouldn’t a honeymoon follow up a wedding?”

A wicked grin answers him.

(Later when they thoroughly and happily consummated their ‘marriage’ Hyukkyu gives Sanghyeok a grin. “How about matching tattoos?”)
