There's Comfort in Chaos

Work Text:

Ugh, Hal thought, he was so not nervous. He was a green lantern, chosen for his courage. The first human one for God’s sake. Meeting Bruce’s family was not going to kill him.

Or at least he hoped it wouldn’t kill him? He’d met a few in the field but never as civilians and definitely not at Wayne Manor. The times he’d been there had solely been visits to the Batcave, mostly for cases (and the occasional tumble on a readily available surface).

Hal didn’t know when his and Bruce’s- whatever had slid into something resembling a relationship. So much so that he was now standing at the entrance of Wayne Manor with lopsided cupcakes.

Hal flinched as the door opened to reveal an older man whom he presumed was Alfred.

“Greetings master Jordan, master Bruce is in the dining area with the children. Please come in.” Alfred said, intelligent eyes sparkling behind his smile.

The dining room contained much more chaos than he’d expected from a house that had the regality of American royalty. It was honestly comforting.

There was a man who was clearly Nightwing chastising a kid. While the other people at the table watched in amusement as a blonde girl did a frankly impressive gymnastics routine.

“Hey little D, we’re not supposed to use Alfred’s good silverware that way.”

“Tch. I was not aware that crimes are allowed to go unpunished in this household.”

“It was a random thing of ice cream! How was anyone going to know it was yours!” Interjected a third voice.

Hal was still staring at the scene when Bruce strolled in.

“Glad you could make it, Hal” Bruce said, a hand on his shoulder and a smile creasing his face.

And then it hit Hal, that yes, he was actually glad.

Just wanted a chance to treat some Batfamily shenanigans!
