Chapter 1: Chapter One

Chapter Text

This was it. After this Lucy would probably be stuck here forever. A trophy wife for some pervert idiot.

“Princess?” Virgo looked at her, the pity obvious even with her blank expression, “Do you really have to do this? It is with my understanding that you don’t want to.”

Lucy smiled, Virgo was the first key her dad gave her. He ended up giving her a lot of keys actually. The one good thing he did for her. Guess he had to make up for being a bad father somehow.

“What choice do I have? Last time I ran it didn’t end well.” It was soon going to be a year since that attempt. One mistake and it all went downhill. Lucy looked at the window, bars still blocking the view she once thought of as her future, her freedom. She looked down at the paper in front of her.

“Do you think they’ll come, Princess?”

“Hopefully, it’ll be nice to meet someone of Fairy Tail before I’m married.”

Natsu was bored. There was nothing to do! The board was mostly empty and only filled with small, BORING jobs! Even eating didn’t replenish his excitement!

“What’s wrong Natsu? You look down,” Wendy asked, like the saint she was.

“I’m bored!” He said, “There’s no big monster to fight, no awesome dangerous jobs to do, nothing!” He flopped his head onto the table.

“Hey flamebrain, just because there’s nothing for you to fight or destroy doesn’t necessarily mean that’s a bad thing,” Gray replied, annoyed.

“What did you call me, ice princess?”

“You know if you’re really itching for a fight I could-“

“Enough,” Erza interrupted, “Natsu, I know that it’s been a light month, but I’m sure something will happen soon and you’ll be able to destroy something.”

Wendy panicked at the thought, “I don’t think that’s-”

“Letter for Master Makorav!” Some guy interrupted. Hm, the guild doesn’t get much letters except for jobs. Even when they do Gramps usually doesn’t get one for himself.

Gramps took the letter from the mail person and read it. “Well, this is unexpected!” He said, eyebrows raised.

“What is it Master?” Mira asked.

“The Heartfilia and Monroe families invite the Master of the wizard guild Fairy Tail and one team to the joining of the two families,”

“What does that mean?” Natsu asked.

“It means we’ve been invited to a wedding, idiot,” Gray supplied. Before Natsu could open his mouth to snark back Wendy lit up and said:

“That sounds like fun! Can we go Master?”

“No offense Wendy, but why would you want to go to a wedding for a bunch of rich people?” Gray rolled his eyes as he said, “They probably just want to see wizards like animals in a zoo,”

“I think it sounds like a great experience, I don’t think I’ve been to a wedding before,” Erza interrupted, stars in her eyes, “They’ll probably have delicious desserts there!”

Natsu raised his head, “Food? I wanna go!”

“Aye!” Happy agreed, “They must have a million fishies for me to eat!”

Gramps contemplated it for a minute, “I guess you could come with me, but no destroying anything! This is an important wedding and I don’t want you mucking it up for the bride and groom!”

“I guess we’re doing this then,” Gray said.

“Just don’t mess anything up! Last thing we need is Fairy Tail’s reputation being damaged because someone destroyed the wedding venue!”

Loke walked up to Lucy as she looked out the window, “So, marriage.”

“Yes, marriage.” Lucy groaned, knowing where this was going.

“C’mon Lucy, you and I both know you don’t want to do this! I could be so much better than your ‘fiancé’ you know,” Lucy looked at him with an unimpressed expression.

“Ok ok,” Loke said, raising up his hands.

“You know I would be more flattered if your little crush on Aries wasn’t so obvious.” Lucy teased. Loke blushed, his ears raising in annoyance.

“Haha, very funny,” Loke turned to look out the window with her, “At least I’ll see some of my old friends at the wedding. It’ll be nice to see them. I miss them,”

Lucy scoffed, “Well, you could’ve written them letters like I always say. But nooo, you’ve only written one to them just to explain that you’re a spirit and that you’ll be leaving, and you’ve never written again!”

Loke sighed, this was not the first time they’ve had this argument, probably not the last either. Not if Lucy had anything to do with it. “How am I supposed to face them? After I lied to them for so long?”

“They probably miss you though,”

“I know. Listen, if they come, I’ll say hi ok. Give them a proper goodbye. Is that good for you?”

Lucy smiled, “I suppose it’s good enough,”

“Now about this wedding-“

“Seriously?”

“Yes. Anyways about the wedding, why don’t you just run? I know what you said about last time but you’re stronger now! You have a lot more spirits than before!”

“I can’t risk it! When we met, it was just after it finally ended. You saw how I was!” A shiver ran up her spine. She was alone back then. She had been alone a lot, yet it was never that bad.

“You were still strong enough to save me,”

Lucy sighed, “I just, don’t want that to happen again.”

“How do you know that?” Loke put a hand on her shoulder, “You’ve grown in power, not just magically but physically as well! You can’t just let yourself be a pawn just because you’re scared,”

“But that’s all I am, a pawn,” She looked away, “He’ll find me, he always will.”

“Maybe, but if you find the right people they’ll protect you,”

Lucy turned back around to face him, “What are you saying, Loki?”

“Join Fairy Tail,”

Lucy looked at him in disbelief. “What? I can’t just join Fairy Tail, how do you even know they’ll protect me anyways?”

“They’ll protect you because once you join you’ll be part of their family. I have no doubt it’ll happen. You said you wanted to join Fairy Tail only one year ago, you can do it now!” He urged, a pleading look in his eyes.

Lucy laughed, “Come on Loki, that dream was unrealistic. I’m Lucky Lucy Heartfilia, not a Fairy Tail wizard.” She said her so-called title mockingly, as it was a silly name from a children’s book.

Loke took Lucy’s hand, “Think about it, there is so much more to you,” He disappeared, off to the spirit realm. Plue, another spirit, appeared in his place with an adorable smile on his face.

Join Fairy Tail huh? It sounded, well, free. Lucy walked over to her nightstand, Plue stumbling after her, opening the secret compartment inside of it and pulled out a stack of magazines and newspapers.

They were all of the magazines about Fairy Tail she could find and collect. Mirajane’s and other different wizards model shoots, interviews from different wizards, and lots of stories about the destruction that happens on their jobs.

She laughed, during her isolation these were what kept her sane. Hell, as soon as she was able she asked Miss Spetto to update her on everything that had happened with Fairy Tail, which was a lot. Apparently they had a war with Phantom Lord?

Lucy thought about what Loke said, she could be apart of a family that wouldn’t want her to leave. That she could be herself with. Lucy of Fairy Tail.

No, she couldn’t think like that. She’s lucky that she’s able to go out. She doesn’t need anything more. She doesn’t.

“Miss Lucy?” Miss Spetto knocked on her door before popping her head in, “Your father is ready for you,”

“Yes, I’ll be out soon!” She had more important things to do than play wizard. She opened her doors and walked into the long empty hallway, a chance for a few weeks of freedom was waiting for her.
