Work Text:
Flopping onto the mattress, Février gave a loud sigh. Satsuki watched her do so as she gently placed her katana onto it's stand and carefully sort through her other blades, each wrapped delicately.
"Finally, something actually made out of relatively soft material. My back's been hurting bad since we've been cramped into that van." Février gave a short stretch before a loud click rung throughout the room and they both paused before the Frenchwoman relaxed again. "Lucky Juli, Juni invited her over to stay whilst she sorted herself out."
Satsuki sat down next to Février on the springy mattress with a book, ready to half-listen to any rant her friend may decide to go on about whilst also multi-tasking reading.
"So, I never really had a chance to ask this before but, what was life like... before Shadaloo?"
Satsuki stopped and closed her book, not caring about the lost bookmark. "...Before Shadaloo?" She closed her eyes to try and think of a memory. "I vaguely remember going to school."
"That's your only memory?" The Frenchwoman asked, sitting up in disbelief. "What kind of a nerd were you?"
"I wasn't a "nerd" it's just one of the last memories I have. And anyway, school was nice, I had friends, good food, an education... I just kind of wish I had a chance to finish it before all this happened."
Février's confused expression dropped and shifted to a more sombre state, tilting her eyebrows in a way that usually she'd never let anyone see. "I'm sure Blondie knows some places you can do something like that."
"I know, but it'll never be the same, I'm not young anymore, as much as I hate to admit it. I can't do the things I wanted to do as a kid, I have no qualifications, unless "PTSD" and "Exceedingly Impressive Ability to Wield a Katana and/or Sword" count."
"Well, whilst you're kind of right, there's still plenty of opportunity. You don't have to go back to Japan, y'know, especially now, we can go live in the UK, with Cammy and Juni, you can go to the USA, maybe even stay in some place like France, not that I personally recommend it... Although if you do, you may want to pick up some French before you go, and a map, no one is giving you directions." She gave an awkward smile before clambering to give her a hug.
Satsuki gave a laugh and hugged her back. "So what about you?"
Février tilted her head to look up at the Japanese woman. "Huh? Me?" Satsuki nodded and patiently waited for an answer. "Well for starters, I'm not going to be able to touch an Airsoft, Paintball or Shooting Range for probable years, maybe I can go live in France? If I live in the North I could probably swim to England to see Cammy."
The short-haired woman gave a giggle. "I don't believe you could do that, you have no stamina, at least save your energy and take a Ferry across."
"Maybe but, money."
"Just ask Enero, she'd probably not bat an eye at 200 Euros being gone out of her account."
"Definitely not, I do not want to piss her off by asking. She's scary."
"We know, but she's not as demonic as you'd think, Févi. She wants to help us, she cares for us all."
Février gave a sigh, finding a little bit of comfort in Satsuki's last line. She lay down on her side of the mattress, the right side and waited for Satsuki to do so on the left side. "What should we do tomorrow?"
"Pick up your prescription."
"What prescription?" The Frenchwoman retorted.
"New glasses."
"I don't need glasses." Février flopped onto her other side, facing away from Satsuki.
"You do, we all know. That visor was just a cover-up." Satsuki turned her over and gave her a hug.
"Yeah, well..." She stuttered. "...You also need glasses."
"Shush, now, let's go to sleep, it's... 10:30PM."
"Not late enough, I'm staying up." The Frenchwoman sat up.
"No you're not." Satsuki pulled her back down. "Go to sleep, you need it."
A groan of displeasure later and Février tucked herself back under the sheet and closed her eyes.
Satsuki turned off the lamp and lay down herself, resting her eyes for the first time that day.
Although, a few minutes later, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned to face the brunette, seeing whatever she could off her in the dark, before her voice spoke out quietly.
"Thank you, Satsuki."
Satsuki gave a small smile.
"No problem, Février. I'll see you in the morning." She said, turning back over and closing her eyes to finally get some sleep.
It was oddly quiet, no metal clanging, no hissing pipes or anyone audibly snoring (their rooms in Shadaloo had had horrible soundproofing) and the duo found it difficult to actually go to sleep, Satsuki was too paranoid and Février needed noise in order to fall asleep.
Eventually Février sat up and took out her headphones, passing one of the buds to Satsuki and plugged them into her phone for some ambience, which definitely helped the two.
Finally, the two fell asleep, vague noises from the video sounding throughout the room as it leaked from the headphones.
The last thought both of them had before they finally fell asleep was:
Thank you for today, friend.
