Work Text:
It was something she did often, changing Amelia’s Lock Screen when she had the chance. And even though it was routine at this point - it still always caught her girlfriend off guard. It was always ridiculous pictures, sometimes they would be Amelia doing stupid things, like sticking straws between her canine teeth and pulling funny faces. Or funny but candid pictures of the brunette.
And this time she had the perfect picture. Amelia had fallen asleep on the porch chair, reading a newly published paper on neurosurgery. Her laptop was in her lap and her head had fallen on the backrest of the chair as her mouth hung open and her face contorted. There was a little bit of drool peeking out past her lip.
Arizona giggled at the photo, preparing to airdrop it to Amelia’s phone. She was on a time crunch, Amelia was only in the shower.
She picked Amelia’s phone up from the counter and when she went to unlock it she paused. Taking in the wallpaper.
She was taken aback, visibly shocked. But her heart warmed. Amelia must of recently changed it, because the last time Arizona had looked it was a picture of her nephew and nieces.
Now, it was a picture of Amelia and Arizona. The more she looked at the picture the sooner she realised it was actually the first photo they’d ever taken since dating. It was from their first date.
Arizona smiled fondly at the screen, Amelia looked adorable. She was sporting a goofy grin, her hair was falling past her shoulders and wavy. She had an arm around Arizona’s shoulder. Arizona’s hair was braided into a low bun, she had it like that for work and was running late for their date so she left it in.
She was kissing Amelia’s cheek, her eyes closed.
Amelia crept into the kitchen after spotting Arizona at the counter on her phone. She grabbed Arizona’s hips from behind and quickly pressed into her back. “Boo.” She whispered in the blondes ear, giggling breathily.
Arizona jumped slightly when hands grabbed at her hips but she quickly lent into the touch, smiling when Amelia whispered into her ear. She turned her head to look at the one resting on her shoulder.
“Caught red handed.” Amelia teased, pecking Arizona’s lips softly.
Arizona was beaming at Amelia, her eyes practically sparkling.
“What?”
“You’re so fucking cute.” Arizona whispered.
The brunette’s nose scrunched up and she shook her head ever so slightly. “I mean - tell me something I don’t know.” She smirked. “But I mean, what did I do?” She instinctively wrapped her arms around her girlfriend’s waist.
Arizona held the phone up, smiling at the Lock Screen once more.
Amelia turned her attention to the phone and smiled, a small blush creeping up her cheeks. “Oh-“ she mumbled into Arizona’s shoulder.
“Yeah, ‘oh’” Arizona mocked playfully, placing the phone back down and turning in Amelia’s arms and wrapping her own around the neurosurgeon’s neck.
Amelia went to speak but Arizona only grinned and kissed her softly, with intent.
Arizona was the first to pull away, peppering a few soft kisses on the brunettes lips. “I…love…you…” she said in between kisses and Amelia giggled.
“I love you too babe.” Amelia responded quietly, booping Arizona’s nose before pulling away. “Now, you grab the snacks and I’ll pick the movie.”
Arizona rolled her eyes playfully, they agreed on watching a horror movie and she wasn’t entirely sold. Because in her defence, she was easily scared.
Amelia grinned and slapped Arizona’s ass before walking off, earning a glare.
“Watch yourself, shepherd.” She playfully scolded as she began looking for snacks.
Arizona had a whole spread going, some popcorn, she cut up some carrot sticks with hummus and apple slices.
She carried the tray of food to the living room, placing it on the coffee table before quickly leaving to grab their drinks.
“What do you think about ‘Us’?” Amelia suggested as Arizona reentered the room with green tea for Amelia and chamomile and honey tea for herself.
She sat both of them on coasters and plopped down beside Amelia, cuddling into her side.
Amelia wrapped an arm around Arizona, her legs up on the coffee table as she pulled the movie up. “Are you ready?” She joked, nudging her girlfriend playfully.
Arizona playfully poured but nodded regardless.
Amelia giggled and leaned in, kissing the blonde softly before pulling away and playing the movie.
Arizona surprised herself for a little, she wasn’t even that jumpy! They shared some snacks, sipped their tea. And before Arizona knew it she had the throw blanket pressed against her face as she leaned further into Amelia. “Is it over yet? Is it over?” She whined.
Amelia was stroking Arizona’s hair as she watched the movie intently. “Yes you can look now, babe.”
Arizona rested her head on Amelia’s shoulder and sighed, hesitantly turning her attention back to the movie.
It continued like that, Arizona would jump and Amelia would giggle and pull her closer. On the odd occasion Amelia would also jump. Or curse.
By the time the movie had finished they were drowsy, Amelia cleared the coffee table of their snacks before returning back to her sleepy girlfriend who was still staring at the now blank tv.
“You all good?” She asked lightheartedly, a small smirk plastered across her lips as she tilted her head to the side and stood in front of the blonde.
Arizona pouted and looked up at Amelia, folding her arms across her chest.
“Oh- that bad huh?” She whispered, leaning down and holding her hands on the backrest of the couch to support herself so that she was eye level with her girlfriend. “What are we going to do with you, hmm” she grinned, pecking a kiss on Arizona’s pout.
Arizona licked her lips and tried to bite back a smile, narrowing her eyes.
Amelia chuckled softly, shifting so that she could straddle Arizona’s thighs and straightening her posture.
Arizona was evidently trying to hide a smirk as she now turned her head away from Amelia.
But the brunette cupped her jaw, urging the blonde to look at her, who complied almost instantly. “How ever will I make it up to?” She asked in jest, her hands now trailing lightly up and down the blondes arms.
Arizona shrugged lightly, but a tiny smirk tugged at the corners of her lips when Amelia began peppering loud sounding kisses all over the blondes face, eventually giggling and trying to dodge the kisses.
“Let me love you!” Amelia playfully whined, resting her hands on the one’s shoulders.
Arizona giggled, looking up at her girlfriend. “I am!” She protested, her hands holding the brunettes waist. “Kiss me properly.” She demanded in a playful tone.
Amelia rolled her eyes and leaned in, kissing Arizona gently. Her tongue was quick to trace the pediatric surgeons lower lip and Arizona let it in almost instantly, tangling her tongue with Amelia’s.
A small moan bubbled up Arizona’s throat and her hands fell to Amelia’s ass, giving it a gentle squeeze.
Amelia hummed and pulled away from the kiss. “We need to go to bed.” She whispered while pressing her forehead against Arizona’s
“And we will..” Arizona smirked. Giving her girlfriend’s ass another squeeze. “..later.” She leaned in and began kissing up the column of Amelia’s neck.
Amelia moaned softly when the blonde bit down gently at her pulse point, a hand instinctively cupping the back of her head. “Baby, I’m serious. We have a packed day at work tomorrow- you especially.”
And she was right, Arizona knew that.
“Okay.” She mumbled against Amelia’s neck, pulling away and reluctantly looking up at her. “But you owe me.” She pointed cheekily in Amelia’s face who swatted her hand away with a giggle.
“Let’s get to bed.” Amelia slipped off of Arizona’s lap and held her hands out to help her up.
And she was fine at first, she was tired even. Ready to sleep.
But then there would be a noise and she would sit up, look around the dark room and cower.
The movie replayed in her mind and she felt like such a child, but she was definitely on edge.
“Did you hear that?” She tapped a half asleep Amelia beside her.
Amelia groaned quietly and wrapped an arm around Arizona, pulling her close from behind and kissing the top of her shoulder. “It’s just the house settling, don’t worry.”
Arizona settled against Amelia’s front, her hands holding the arm that was over her.
That happened a few times, and each time Amelia comforted her girlfriend. Showered her with kisses - no matter how groggy or tired she was. She made sure Arizona was okay before drifting back off.
Eventually, Arizona felt contended and fell asleep against her girlfriend.
