Work Text:

“miláček.. come to bed”

a cold pair of hands gently find themselves on mikes shoulders; it would have startled the acrobat if this was the first time they did this charade

“matthias.. I swear, I’m almost finished just give me a moment”

“you promised me that 4 hours ago.”

“I remember but”

“last night as well.. mike, when will you be done?”

with a sigh, mike reluctantly relaxes into the puppeteers touch and putting down his bomb for a second. mike doesn’t need to look to notice that matthias is smiling

“these have to be finished by afternoon”

“dose that really mean you have to work yourself to death? if you cannot go to sleep, at least let me help.”

mike finds himself chuckling at the thought of it; matthias staying up with him till the early hours of the mornings, passing him ingredients that were easily in arms length, using gunpowder and highly dangerous chemicals together...

“you know I can’t let you do that..”

“let me pretend?”

“…yeah sure, pull over a chair”

in just a few moments, matthias hands left his shoulders.. even if his hands were cold, mike felt warmer when they were there; he kinda, no not “kinda”, he missed matthias warmth? weird.

the warmth returned when matthias sat back down beside him with a book in his hands. It was nice to feel warm again! so nice that Mike couldn’t help and steal a glance at the man beside him, that’s when his eye caught something..

“really? the tempest, I thought you finish that a while back?”

“I did but i want to read it again because…”

the puppeteer took a second to re-word his next sentence. It was one of mikes favourite things about matthias; it was always the little things that matthias did that made everything seem normal… he almost made mike feel like they weren’t playing a death game full of pain and suffering and if everything was alright…

almost!

“because it reminds me of this place, it reminds me of you..”

that’s one way to catch his attention

“oh and how so?”

yes, he should be working but a little conversation wouldn’t kill!

“you remind me of a drunk jester named Trinculo, I think he suits you very well…he is my favourite, a smart and funny man..”

a playful smile came across the acrobats face. little from the fact, matthias was calling him smart and funny but mostly!

“huh, a drunk jester; that’s how you see me?”

“you know that’s not what I meant….”

matthias took mikes hand and decided to mumble the next part… it wouldn’t be like mike would understand but he barely had the courage to say it out loud…

“Um.. Ukážu vám ty nejlepší pružiny. natrhám ti bobule. Budu pro tebe lovit a seženu ti dost dřeva. Mor na tyrana, kterému sloužím!
Už mu neponesu žádné hole, ale následuj tě,
Ty úžasný člověče”

“matthias.. you know very well, I can’t understand your native tongue”

“I know, just a dumb thing from the book.. keep working miláček”

one day I’ll promise to tell you that in english but would you ever say it back? I’m so sorry mike..polepším se pro tebe..

Notes:

mike doesn’t realize the feeling of this type of love (man and man being romantic) but he is so in love and matthias knows how down bad he is for mike and feels guilty for crushing on his friend and hopes to get better

matthias told mike “miláček” is “mike” in czech
(it means “sweetheart”, “darling” ex)

“polepším se pro tebe” means “I’ll get better for you”

and the paragraph is also from the tempest, when a character praises (and in this scenario, confessing to) trinculo.. look out of context, it’s
a sweet paragraph… I thought it was cute😕

(it roughly translates to
“I will show you the best springs. I'll pick your berries. I will hunt for you and get you enough wood. A plague on the tyrant I serve!
I'll bear him no more sticks, but follow thee
You wonderful man”)
