Work Text:
Chifuyu walked around the gift shop.
There was something he wanted to do tonight and that something is to confess to Kazutora.
And what better way to do that than with a gift.
Now Chifuyu knows you don't have to give a gift when you confess your love to someone, but this was different. He's always giving Kazutora little gifts every now and then so it would feel off if he didn't give him one along with his confession.
Which is why he is currently walking around trying to figure out what to get him.
Bookmarks, keychains, candles, flowers, hair accessories... These are some of the things he passes by that he has already given him.
He stops at a shelf filled with plushies, picks up a tiger and looks at it fondly; remembering the first time he gave Kazutora a gift.
It was back during their middle school days...
---------
After school, Chifuyu found Kazutora relaxing under a tree.
"Kazutora-kun?"
Kazutora opened an eye then heavily sighed. "I don't feel like fighting with you, Chifuyu."
Right. They weren't getting along at the time.
"I'm not here to fight," he holds out a small light blue bag. "Here."
Kazutora sits up and gives Chifuyu a skeptical look.
"It's a gift."
"That's even more suspicious," Kazutora said, but takes the bag anyway, opens it and reaches inside.
"A tiny stuffed tiger?"
"It came with the limited edition of one of my manga and I thought of you. That's all."
Kazutora snorted. "I wonder why it made you think of me?" Kazutora asked; voice laced with teasing.
"If you don't want it--"
"I want it." A pause. "It's a gift from you," he said quietly, bringing the tiger up and pressing it against his chest.
Chifuyu wanted to question that response but he couldn't when Kazutora looked up at him with a soft look in his eyes and smiled.
"Thank you, Chifuyu."
Oh, so he can smile genuinely.
Chifuyu kind of wanted to keep seeing it.
That's when it all started.
--------------
Chifuyu sat the tiger down.
This gift needed to be different. It needed to match his confession.
He moves on, sighing, feeling almost defeated until he comes across a glass case. He stared inside absently, snapping out of his daze when something catches his eye.
"Something like this, maybe?" he said placing a hand on the glass. He could already picture the look on Kazutora's face.
It's decided.
He looks for a shop employee.
"Excuse me!"
---
When Chifuyu exits the gift shop, a familiar voice calls out to him.
"Chifuyu!"
Chifuyu turns to find Kazutora running up to him with a bag in his hand.
Looks like Chifuyu's plan to get off work early to have more time to find a gift then be back at the bookstore before Kazutora shows up, failed. At least he got out just in time.
"Hey, Kazutora," he said just as Kazutora reaches him.
Kazutora takes a moment to catch his breath. "You weren't at the bookstore so i came here."
"There was something i needed do i came here after work."
"I figured it was something like that. Anyway..." He holds up the bag. "I stopped by the store and got you a couple of cans of your favorite blueberry cocktail," he says taking out one of the cans to show Chifuyu.
"Thanks," Chifuyu says taking the the can and popping the tab instantly.
"You're going to drink it now?"
"You act like this the first time," Chifuyu says, and downs the drink in one go.
He lowers the can, letting out a visible breath before tossing it in a nearby trashcan. ''I needed that.''
''You really like those, huh?''
Chifuyu hums. ''Yeah, but I like the drinks you make me more.''
Kazutora steps closer and grins. ''I in that case, would you like me to--''
''Hanemiya-kun~''
Kazutora is interrupted by a woman with two friends crossing the street.
''Regulars from the bar I work at,'' Kazutora whispered to Chifuyu. He hands him the bag before walking over to the women.
Chifuyu takes out the second can and opens it while watching the interaction in front of him.
''Hanemiya-kun we are on our way to the club. Do you wanna come?'' the first woman asked.
''Sorry, I already have plans for tonight.'' he gestures with his head to Chifuyu behind him.
The women look past Kazutora.
"Black hair..." the first woman said.
"Teal eyes..." the second woman said.
''That earring...'' the third woman said.
''Oh! is that the guy you were talking about the other night?''
''Yeah, that's my Chifuyu.''
Chifuyu nearly chokes on his drink after hearing that.
"Are you two going on a date?"
Kazutora dramatically sighs. ''Unfortunately no. I'm just walking him home like I always do.''
"At least you're spending time together.''
"Actually, we spend a lot of time together,'' Kazutora says easily.
"And you haven't made a move yet?''
''Not yet,'' Kazutora shudders, feeling Chifuyu's stare behind him.
Although a little annoyed that they're talking like Chifuyu isn't standing there, he couldn't help but smile.
'My Chifuyu.' He almost giggled.
"Well, we don't want to hold you up.''
''Let us know when you're free to go to the club.''
''And bring your not-boyfriend with you.''
Kazutora laughed. ''Sure and next time I see you three at the bar, I'll give you a discount on your drinks.''
The women squeal; taking Kazutora up on his offer before saying their goodbyes.
Amazing. Chifuyu thought.
Kazutora turns back to Chifuyu. ''Sorry about that.''
Sorry? What's he got to be sorry for? Chifuyu has long accepted that Kazutora is attractive, talented, and smart and that draws people to him. Sure, Chifuyu gets jealous from time to time but he never lets it overtake him.
''What are you thinking about, Chifuyu?'' Kazutora asked, bringing Chifuyu out of his thoughts.
"That you are really popular.''
''Really? Am I?" he said smiling knowingly.
Chifuyu crushes the can in his hand. "Don't play dumb,'' he says throwing the can and bag away.
''Aw, don't be mad, Chifuyu." He changes the subject. ''So which way do you feel like going tonight?''
''The long way."
By 'the long way' he means the path with the string light covered trees. It's romantic; perfect for what he plans on doing tonight.
"Let's go.''

Their walk is silent; because a wave of worry and nervousness just had to hit Chifuyu. But isn't that how it goes? You plan on doing something and you are all excited and worry-free until right before it happens.
With that said, Chifuyu was ninety-nine percent sure that Kazutora felt the same. After all, the guy has been flirting with him since thet first mey; even if Chifuyu thought he was just messing with him at first. Also Kazutora did not seem to have a problem when Chifuyu, not so subtly, took him to various romantic spots and did couple-like things. Not mention what just happened outside the gift shop.
What was he even worried for?
Feeling better, Chifuyu turns to Kazutora.
''Hey, Kazutora?''
''Ready to tell me what's on your mind, Chifuyu?''
Chifuyu wasn't even surprised. Kazutora has always been good at picking up on his moods.
''What makes you think something is on my mind?''
''Because you're not talking my ear off like you normally do.''
Ah.
''I was going to say something, but...''
''You're right, though. There is something I've been wanting to do for a while now.''
''Oh. Is it something I can help you with?''
Chifuyu stops. ''Well it involves you, so yeah.''
''Is that so?''
''Yeah, so can we find somewhere to sit?''
Kazutora nods, clearly seeing how important this is.

They sit down on a nearby bench.
Kazutora waits patiently while Chifuyu figures out what to do.
Should he make some small talk first, or should he just give him the gift and let it speak for itself?
Option two sounds good, so Chifuyu goes into his pocket and pulls out a yellow rectangle box and holds it out to Kazutora.
Kazutora takes it, looks at it, then quietly laughs.
''Deja-vu,'' he mutters.
''Huh?''
Kazutora shakes his as he opens the box. His eyes go wide.
Inside is a gold bracelet with light blue crystal snowflake in the center of it.
Chifuyu watches for Kazutora's reaction; which he gets when he closes the box and hands it back to Chifuyu.
Oh.
Chifuyu grips the box. ''So you don't-''
Kazutora lifts up his right arm to Chifuyu and pulls up his sleeves.
''Will you put it on me, Chifuyu?'' he says softly.
Chifuyu is taken aback at first, but the he beams. ''Absolutely! I'll be happy to!''
Carefully, Chifuyu takes the bracelet out. His hands were shaking, but he manages to put the bracelet on Kazutora's wrist. He pulls back. ''There.''
Kazutora raises his arm to the sky admiring his bracelet sparkling under the lights.
Chifuyu couldn't take his eyes off him. So pretty, so beautiful, Chifuyu could stare at him for hours, but now was not the time for that.
''Do you like it?''
Kazutora glanced at him.
''Chifuyu... You convey your feelings through gifts.
''...''
''That's why I treasure every one that you give me.''
''...''
Kazutora lowers his arm, letting his hand land gently on Chifuyu's cheek.
''So no I don't 'like' it.''
He leans in.
''I love it,'' he whispers before pressing his lips to Chifuyu's.
And Chifuyu just sat thee frozen, speechless, completely out of it until Kazutora patted his cheek when he didn't get a response.
''Chifuyu,'' Kazutora laughs. ''You there?''
When Chifuyu comes back, he touches his lips before turning away and covering his face with hands.
''Chifuyu?''
''... no fair,'' Chifuyu mumbled.
''What?''
Chifuyu lowered his hands and turned back to Kazutora. ''I said, no fair! I wanted to kiss you and confess my love first!''
Kazutora snorts. ''Looks like you just did.''
Realization on what he just said hits Chifuyu, and he attempts to cover his face again, but is stopped by Kazutora grabbing his hands.
''Me too.''
''Huh?''
''I love you too.''
Chifuyu wasn't shocked, but he still had to ask. "Since when?''
Kazutora lets go of Chifuyu's hands. ''Hm? About a month or two after we met,'' he said like it was nothing.
That long? That explains a lot.
"Soooo?''
'''So' what?''
''What do you love about me?''
"Really? You want me to answer that now?''
Kazutora (a little too eagerly) nods.
Chifuyu could feel the heat rising to his face. '' Fine. Um, well... I love your smile first of all. I love your pretty yellow eyes that look like they are glowing under certain conditions. Your voice and your guitar playing. I love that your eyes don't glaze over when I talk about the latest thing I'm into. I love how bright you shine even if you don't realize it. And lastly, I love that you do things with good intentions even if it leads to problems sometimes.''
Kazutora frowned. ''Was that last part needed?''
Chifuyu laughed. ''Just being honest.''
Kazutora leaned in to press a kiss to Chifuyu's forehead. ''Thank you.''
Chifuyu blushed, averting his gaze. ''Your turn.''
''Oh that's easy! I love how cute, passionate, romantic, thoughtful and fun you are. I love how you don't easily give up. I love your fingers that poke out whenever you wear oversized clothes. I love how warm you make me feel when we are together...
Chifuyu's heart goes 'ba-thump' at that.
''Oh, and the way you get embarrassed soooo easily and--''
''That's enough!'' Chifuyu puts his hands up to stop Kazutora. He was blushing hard, proving his point.
Kazutora laughs again getting up. He turns to Chifuyu and holds out his hand. ''Come on. Let's get you home before we freeze.''
Chifuyu is momentarily distracted by Kazutora's bracelet, twinkling.
''Yeah'', Chifuyu takes his hand letting himself be pulled up, but he doesn't let go once he is on his feet. Instead, he steps closer and gets on his tiptoes to give Kazutora a kiss.
Surprised, Kazutora takes a step back. ''Chi- Chifuyu, what--''
''I wanted to kiss you,'' he said with a pout.
''Oh. Okay. Right. Sure. Yeah.'' Kazutora said, blushing, unable to form a sentence.
Chifuyu finds himself liking a flustered Kazutora.
''You know, Kazutora...'' Chifuyu gets close again. ''You are really cute when you blush.''
Kazutora sputters. ''Sh- Shut up! You're lying! You're way more cute.''
''Hmm...'' Chifuyu hums intertwining their fingers. ''Then would you like to stay over tonight so we can figure out who's cuter?''
''I- um...''
Chifuyu chuckles as he starts walking, pulling Kazutora along.
''You can tell me your answer on the way.''
