Work Text:
Aki arrived completely destroyed from work. He knew he should be grateful, he had a relatively normal and secure occupation, a nice house in a good area, a more than decent pay and above all, a charming boyfriend always waiting for him when he arrived.
That didn't happen by chance.
"Angel?" He asked as soon as he felt the absence of the typical gloved hands clinging to his back and the small body that clung to him like a Koala, as if it had not been seen in years. "Are you here?"
He crossed the front door and closed it with anxiety lodged in his chest. It couldn't be, currently there was no one interested enough in the demon Angel to try to kidnap him and Angel himself didn't go out much unless he was invited by Power or Denji's girlfriend to what they called "girls' night."
He wasn't one but trying to tell them was useless.
His instincts kicked in naturally and he opted for a defensive position, whatever was happening had been able to defeat the demon, so it was good to take precautions. I move through the house slowly, trying not to squeak the floorboards or accidentally bump into anything. Dinner was served on the table still hot and steaming. It was just strange.
He gently opened the door to the bedroom they shared, it creaked loudly, and Aki was ready to fight for his life if necessary when a single gasp came from the furniture next to the bed. "Angel?" He asked again.
He inhaled deeply and held it there as he approached the closet. He grabbed the handle and opened it quickly revealing its interior. The demon was there, of course he was, but not in the way he would have liked.
Curled up against a corner with his head buried between his knees and a fleeting tremor throughout his anatomy, it was easy to tell that he was crying. "Angel..., honey, what happened?" He murmured, slowly approaching him and always taking care to know where to touch. He lifts the other's face with his gloved hands and analyzes it.
His eyes were swollen and red, his teeth clenched and a look of shame waiting there. When he seemed to notice Aki's presence in the room he simply collapsed again, mumbling apologies under his breath and trying to curl up in on himself again. "I'm sorry..., Aki I-" I stammer letting out another choked sob.
Aki felt much more confused than when he arrived. He stood up again to analyze the room, everything seemed relatively the same except for one thing or another moved from its place, probably due to cleaning. He looked back into the closet and oh, he should have prepared a little better.
Rocky, the family cat that Denji and Power had entrusted with one because Denji didn't want to take charge and Power was too busy with Nyakko, was lying there. Sleeping? Aki left Angel aside for a moment to approach the animal, he took it in his arms and noticed that it was frozen and inert, it was dead.
"Angel what the hell-?" I cut off his sentence by shaking my head. "What happened honey?" He reached out again to cradle the smaller man in his arms and let him cry against his chest. How I wished I could give him a kiss, such a minimal one.
"I-I, I was making dinner and..." He sobbed again. "The cat went up to the cupboard..., I-I let it be b-but it fell and I held it..." He muttered leaving Aki even more confused, how old would the animal have to have been? "I-I had him with me and only when I finished setting the table..., I noticed that I could feel his fur, and I-I couldn't do anything..."
He continued to sob against Aki's chest, apologizing, gasping, and simply punching his shirt to try to make himself feel better. He didn't help, surely Aki would kill him, he would consider him a murderer and-
"Honey..., it was an accident." I stroke his head lightly. "He's here, I know you loved him very much and it wasn't your fault..." He risked a kiss on her scalp. He took him into his arms and whispered soothing phrases while caressing his forearm.
He leaned him against the bed and hugged him so tightly that he felt that if he tightened his grip a little more, the body in his arms would fall apart.
"Do you want to sleep?" Angel nodded and Aki had to work overtime at home.
