Work Text:

Sammy didn’t think her life after Total Drama would be like this. Sure, her time in Pahkitew Island was a handful and she did things that 12-year old Samantha Ford would never do. She was of course proud of herself that she finally got the chance to stand up to Amy. Sure, taking her place was never the plan in the first place but after all the positive reaction after she came back was worth it.

After getting eliminated the way she did, Sammy wasn’t sure people would come to like her. The thing that surprised her was how welcoming everyone was the minute she stepped into the halls of her familiar high school.

Even her old bullies, mostly Amy’s friends, were sympathizing with her and leaving Amy in the dust because of how unfair she was to Sammy. Sammy couldn’t help but feel slightly bad for her sister however she couldn’t forget the years of torment she had to go through.

Speaking of Amy, they never talk much anymore. During senior year, they went through a silent agreement that they would both be independent. It wasn’t only Sammy’s wish either, Amy was eager to get away from her and become her own person, in her own way of course. She didn't bother to think about it.

Senior year was the highlight of her life, she had ditched the always red cheerleading uniform she always used to wear with baby blue. She always liked the color anyways and it meant that she was finally free.

She had actual not-fake friends and she had hobbies that she enjoyed, not because Amy told her to join it. She also stayed in touch with Jasmine and Shawn as much as she could. She was really happy when she saw that Shawn actually won.

So, graduation came and Sammy was officially a university student and an independent woman.

Sammy was so pleasantly surprised when she opened her dorm room to find Jasmine unpacking. Turns out, she was also planning to attend the same college as her and planned this herself.

Sammy felt all of her worries lessen once she saw her best friend’s face. She was not gonna be alone.

She only had one thing to worry about. The gorgeous barista in the campus coffee shop who also happened to be an old contestant from Total Drama.

Sammy had always admired Ella, even though they didn’t talk too much. She knew Ella loved singing and she had to admit that she had an awesome voice. It was basically a crime that she was being treated so badly. Sugar being so mean to her somehow reminded her of Amy’s treatment which was horrible in any way.

Sammy remembers the first time that they saw each other in the coffee shop. Sammy was basically rushing in to get her caffeine before her first lecture. Finally it was her time to order when she heard the melodic voice.

“Welcome! What can I get you?” Ella greeted her as her face turned from her normal smile to a shocked one. “Sammy?” She exclaimed, making the blonde turn to her with the same expression.

Ella was the same as always, her short shiny black hair has slowly grown longer and she ditched her pink princess look to the coffee shop uniform but to Sammy she still was as gorgeous as ever.

Sammy let out an awkward laugh, she had no idea why she was being this awkward. She was never this nervous around her on the island. What was going on?

“Hi Ella.” Sammy said shyly, tucking her hair behind her ears.

Ella smiled back, looking pleased to see someone familiar. “So… what can I get for you?” She sang. Sammy was glad her personality didn’t change over the past year. She would hate for that to happen.

“Uh…a chai please.” She said softly before Ella nodded and went to prepare the drink.

Sammy anxiously waited to pick up her drink, she might have been in a hurry but right now talking to Ella felt more important.

“Order for Sammy!” Ella’s gorgeous voice rang making Sammy speed over to get her drink. She had to say something, anything.

“Thank you.” Sammy gulped. “I didn’t think I would see you working here.” She said with an awkward laugh making Ella brighten up.

“I didn’t think I would either.” Ella giggled. “It gives me the money I need to get through my degree. I’m studying Musical Theatre.” She said. Sammy was glad that she never lost her passion. It was one of the most unique things about her.

“Well, your voice was always amazing.” Sammy admitted, her cheeks going pink. Why did she say that? “It was a shame that people said it was annoying. It was never annoying to me.” Sammy explained, going even redder.

She was such a mess. She felt like she was gonna be swallowed by the ground. Ella’s growing smile was the thing that made everything better.

“Thank you!” Ella beamed, her cheeks burning pink as well. Sammy could feel her heartbeat increase every second. Ella was a real life princess, there was no other way to explain it.

Sammy knew that if she were to say something she was gonna be ruining everything. She bit her lip anxiously as she took a sip of her drink.

“Can I get your number? I uh… I kinda don’t wanna lose touch with you?” Sammy murmured but it was clear that Ella heard her. Ella smiled back in response and nodded scribbling her number in a napkin.

“Of course.” Ella responded, clapping her hands together and giving the napkin to her. Sammy took it with a smitten grin. She was supposed to say something else when she noticed the time. She was really late!

“Shoot! I gotta go but… call me!” She exclaimed slowly running back to the door. Sammy briefly turned back around to catch Ella’s beaming smile before opening the door with shaking hands.

Yeah, she was screwed.
