Work Text:

Kanade sits down on her chair, and boots up her computer. She puts her headset on, determined to finish the work she had started the other day, and logs into Nightcord. She already hears very familiar people bickering. However, when she opens her microphone, they stop fighting to greet her, only to start again once she gets to work.

Hours pass, and Kanade was still hard at work. She wanted to make sure every part of the song was right, after all. Though, she should probably take a break soon.

...

No, breaks aren't her concern right now. Her housekeeper is coming in a while, she can take her rest by then.

"Hehe~ We really are soulmates, aren't we Enanan?” Suddenly, Kanade overhears Mizuki's conversation. She leans on her hand as she chuckles at the usual banter between Ena and Mizuki. She wasn't quite on-topic as she's long zoned out since she started working. It's not like she wanted to comment anyways.

"Do you think I want to be your soulmate?!?" Ena angrily replied back. Kanade could hear Mizuki crying in the background. Maybe she should interrupt... Things could get heated knowing Ena.

As the two fought, Mafuyu decided to join in and bluntly comment, "But you kind of are soulmates, no?"

Soulmates… are they really a thing?

"Miss Yoisaki?" Honami calls out to Kanade as she knocks on her door. She lifts her head up to her knees and sighs.

She didn't want a housekeeper.

"What is it?" Kanade responds, slowly getting up from her position, waiting for the girl's reply.

"I-I'll be leaving now. I left the soup on the table. Please, eat it while it's hot, okay?" Honami does as she says and leaves the house.

She didn't need a housekeeper. She could've proven that if she didn't faint on that day.

Yet here she is eating the soup Honami cooked. It wasn't bad, she didn't mind a different taste aside from cup noodles. Still, having a housekeeper is a little bothering since she wanted to finish on a song as soon as possible. She sighs again and blankly stares at the wall to contemplate her life decisions. She then glances at the door Honami exited.

"What. An. Attitude. Change." Kanade whispers as to not be heard by her group.

Was she really like that to Honami? Because her past self would probably resent her present self for catching feelings for the latter. Now that she thinks about it, what even made her catch feelings for Honami? Is it the way she's so kind with Kanade? No... almost everyone's kind to Kanade. Is it the way she cooks for her? It can't be... Mafuyu cooks for her too─ sometimes, so why wouldn't she feel the same with her then? Then... is it the way she basically got married to her during the Bridal Fest─

Ding.

Shit.

Kanade quickly rushes to the front door, bumping into various pieces of furniture before getting there. There's no way she can face Honami after thinking about her so much. She's definitely not keeping a straight face in front of her.

With one last gasp, she finally manages to open the door.

"Good afternoon, Miss Yoi– W-What happened to you?!" Honami worryingly asks the silvered-hair girl who was sweating. The drummer ushers Kanade into the kitchen and set down her grocery bags on the kitchen countertop.

"I can wait for you to open the door, you know?”

"Huh?" Kanade blurts.

Wait. Why was she even rushing in the first place? Is she that desperate?

Before Kanade could continue asking questions to herself, Honami chuckles and starts preparing for dinner. She goes back to her room and tells Honami to call her once it’s time for dinner.

A little while later, a knock on Kanade’s door was heard. Knowing it was time for dinner, she opens the door and is greeted with Honami’s kind smile.

Let go of her.

The two sit down on the dinner table and eat. Just like... usual…? Kanade wasn't sure what to feel throughout the conversation however, she was sure they definitely weren't talking like usual. Honami seems to be speaking with her normally, so why does she feel strange? Is this a one-sided conversation? All because she’s been thinking about her? All because she reminisced about the past?

“Miss Yoisaki?” Honami asked, concerned for the composer. Kanade quickly snaps back to reality, stammering before assuring her she’s okay.

Honami repeats her question, “So, how was your day?” to which she chuckles and responds with “Nothing much, still working on a song.” Right before Honami takes a bite out of her meal, she frowns and asks “All day?” With her concerned tone, Kanade would assume she would be sad about the fact she was still working.

---

Honami washes the dishes while humming as Kanade drinks her tea. Can they... stay like this? Sure, they aren't talking but.. she likes it like this. The way Honami might put her to sleep with her hums, the way the water flows as she rinses the plates, or the way she puts on such a kind smile while doing so much work for her.

Let go of her.

What's the point of hoping? Why on earth is she still in love? How on earth is she still in love?! She knew her feelings for her, but why would she try to confess? She knew a relationship just wouldn't work, so why?!

Kanade stops asking questions to herself and looks at Honami as she puts away a plate, making a slight sound after it accidentally hits the cabinet.

Why is Honami even still with h─

"Ms. Yoisaki?" Honami breaks the silence.

"Y-Yes?" Kanade stutters, surprised from the sudden call.

Honami puts another plate back into the cabinet. She sighs and looks at Kanade.

"This is an extremely random question but..." Honami trails off, glancing at Kanade as if she was asking for permission to continue. The latter smiled and nodded.

"Do you think we're soulmates in another universe?" Honami asks, looking through a window to avoid Kanade's gaze.

Oh.

The stars lined up too perfectly for Kanade today, and for once, she didn't like it. She had way more questions than answers, even before Honami asked her such a question. Why is she even asking her this question? Does she know her true feelings? Has she been that obvious? Or maybe the gods were telling her to confess already?!

Kanade looks at her cup with barely any tea left. It's still warm, but it barely has anything left─ just like her love for her. It's warm. It's running out.

She's being forced to move on.

She sighs, switching her gaze from the cup to the window.

"Are we even soulmates in this one?"

Kanade looks at Honami, finding out she's been looking at her. She smiles— though Honami thinks it's a smile of sadness, while the composer starts going back to her room.

"Please." Honami manages to utter after the sudden tension from the question.

Kanade stops walking.

"Let go of me?"

Right. Only Honami can see through Kanade.
