Chapter Text
After the death of the Duke of Meropide, Wriothesly. The chief justice seemed to spiral, first, it started with him not coming to the courts, then rain and thunderstorms, no one knew the cause of the sudden weather changes but, you knew.
You gently knocked on the door of Neuvillete's office, he needed to answer quickly. The entirety of Fontaine would be wiped away if he didn't, all the rain had caused a flood; It wasn't severe just yet but if he didn't stop it, the flood would drown Fontaine, only to be left as an Atlantis. You jiggled the doorknob...locked, to fumbled the spare keys he had given you before you finally opened it. You stumbled into him sitting in his chair, simply staring down at the tear-stained paper in front of him. His eyes were puffy from tears, and the inkwell on his desk had been knocked over all over his table, leaking on the polished floor.
"Monsieur, are you alright?" You softly asked, remaining a good distance away from him, for comfort's sake.
"Leave." Neuvillete responded, not making eye contact, staring at the letter on his desk.
"No, I...I can't. There's something I have to tell you, it's an emergency!" You stammered, trying to straighten your posture.
"What. What, is so important that you must bother me." Neuvillete looked up at you, his eyes sending a shiver down your spine. They had lost their familiar soft shine, they were now..devoid of all light. When he spoke, the rain rapped harder against the curtained windows as if at his command.
"Well, f-Fontaine has been suffering a flood these last few hours due to the...the constant rain you have caused and many people have suffered. I understand you're morning the death of the Duke but this is no way to" You were quickly cut off by a clap of thunder, making you flinch.
"Don't mention him when speaking to me." He hissed quietly, eliciting a quick nod from you out of fear. Never had you expected to be scared of Neuvillete, he was always so soft and kind with you but now, when you looked at him it was only..fear.
"I'm sorry Monsieur, it won't happen again. As I was saying, Fontaine is in a state of emergency because of you a-and it would be helpful if you could stop this or..or drain the flood." You mumbled, fidgeting with the cryo vision that lay on your hip.
"Wait..what? What flood, there is no flood." He looked at you as if you were crazy, you sighed; he tuned out everything you said before.
You took a deep breath as you walked to the window, opening the curtains with hesitation. Neuvillete looked out of the window as the water level rose at a steady pace, his eyes went wide..he didn't seem to believe it.
"See! But, you can stop it..right? I'm sure you can, you can make the water go down!" You beamed, believing in him.
"What? No, no I can't stop it..I don't know how..." He looked down at his hands and then back up at the window as if he didn't know what he could do.
"No I'm sure you can, I mean you're the hydro dragon..you could do anything!" You tried your best to cheer him on. As you spoke, the rain started to get worse as well as the start of rumbling softly in the clouds.
"Y/N, please you'll only make it worse!" He said, clearly starting to stress himself out over this.
"If you fix it, everyone will regard you as a hero-" You stopped at the sound of a loud lightning strike and aggressively loud thunder.
"I CAN'T!" He shouted, slamming his hands on the table, eyes glowing a dim blue.
You stumbled back, back hitting the door, your hand searching for the doorknob. Tears stung at your eyes, you weren't a sensitive person but being yelled at by a man who you thought could never raise his voice at you, felt different.
As Neuvillete looked at you with wide eyes, the rain began to slow against the window. You saw him search for words but you didn't wanna stay and listen, you were..scared of him. You took a deep breath and quickly left, stumbling out of the door and closing it behind you.
Rushing out of the room, you stopped at the door, through the windows you saw the water level rising above the windows, due to the pressure of the heavy rain they began to crack. You ran to the windows, using your vision to freeze them closed, even if not permanent it would help. Just as you were done, water began rushing into the cracks in the door, sealing those fast enough to stop the ice from cracking in the windows. Everything started happening faster and faster, when you sealed one thing; another would break. As time went on, you felt yourself getting dizzy from overuse of your vision, your movements getting slower...you couldn't hold out anymore. Footsteps could be heard exiting Neuvillete's office, you didn't bother to look before your head hit the floor and everything went dark.

You woke up in Neuvillete's office, he stood at the window, staring out at the scenery. From what you could see from the chair you were sitting at, there was still rain but the water level was significantly higher; covering a third of Fontaine. Even if it was the middle of the day..it was dark due to the large rain cloud covering the sun from shining.
Before you noticed anything else, you noticed Neuvillete's hair. Once down to his lower back, the white tresses reached his shoulders. You were stunned, to say the least, he'd been growing it out ever since you started working with him all those years ago. The note on the table from presumably hours ago still laid there, waiting to be read. You quietly stood, walking softly against the floors to read it..it was a note to the Duke...
'I hope this letter finds you in good health, dearest Wriothesly.
I would like to send a personal thank you for your help and work in the city of Fontaine, you have been of much service to us and myself. Not only as the Duke but as a companion, dare I say a friend, a close friend. Your efforts will not go unnoticed, thank you.
Forever yours, Neuvillete.'
You looked up at him and then back at the letter, under it was another letter..the letter regarding Wriothesly's passing. You also noticed the romantic undertones of the letter, thats why they were so close. You gently placed it down, looking up at Neuvillete. In the reflection of the window, you saw him..tears in his pretty eyes, you saw now why he did what he did... He was mourning the loss of someone dear to him..very dear to him; Wriothesly.
You hesitated before you quickly wrapped your arms around him, an effort of comfort. He looked down at you, confused the accepting it with a soft sigh....
