Chapter Text

Babe looked around the garage but did not find Charlie anywhere, usually the boy would be here by now, no matter what he had said, he was stubborn that way.

“Good” Babe thought to himself, he finally listened to him, but deep inside he was very disturbed. Jeff was there of course, he did not even look at Babe just continued working normally. But then he rationalized with himself, Charlie would be back, he still needed his car, hell, that was what all of this was about right?

On the second day, his trust in his belief that the kid would be back starts to waver, but he is still sure that soon that would be the case. Babe could feel jumping out of his skin and he continued to be easily irritable and snap at people. Everyone at the garage gave him a lot of space because of this. Alan would not let Jeff get close to him at all, what was probably wise of his part. Damn, he got used to Charlie's smell around him, that would negate all the other and calm Babe up and now it was gone so he was just mad to have to deal with all people’s awful smell again.

On the third day without seeing him his confidence waver a lot, yeah, he broke up with him, but he never thought that Charlie would just disappear out of thin air, he thought the boy would come in for training, then probably become a X-Hunter racer and you know just be around.

It was the fourth day now, and Charlie has not been back to the garage, not shown up in the club or his house. So, Babe was done and decided to reach out to the person that probably knew what the hell he was up to. Three days before Babe would never do what he was considering doing now. But that was three days ago, he was a different person now, definitely  a more desperate one.

So, he approached Jeff, who was working in a car with Alan closely observing. Alan looked at him carefully when he approached them, Jeff looked at him very unimpressed.

- Could you tell him that if he wants the car for trying out he needs to show up to train on it or the deal is off.

Babe says not looking at him directly. He hears Way sighing annoyedly closed behind him.

- Sure - this was all that Jeff said before picking up his laptop and leaving.

Babe feels a wave of rage come up within him, of course they were seeing each other. He glared at Jeff’s back. Alan just shaked his head looking at Babe disappointed.

On the fifth day Babe was sure again he would show up, he even checked himself on the mirror once or twice before going to the garage. When it was the afternoon and Charlie had not shown up yet, he swallowed his pride and approached Jeff again. This time he was eating with Alan sitting next to him eating as well. When he got closer Alan sent a clear warning look, do not try anything. Babe did not know what the hell was his problem lately.

- Did you tell him? He asks Jeff.

- Yeah - Jeff says and then pauses eating some more while Babe was vibrating in expectative beside him. He turns and looks at him annoyed. Where was the youth's respect for their elders these days?

- Phi said he thought it was best not to join X-Hunter since all of your previous history and that you two will not work together from here forward. I think my brother prefers a clean break.

And after that he gets up and leaves while Babe and Alan stare at him.

WTF? A clean break? The part of him telling that was actually very rational thinking of the boy was quickly shut up, the part had lost its power in his head a few days ago. Charlie would have another thing coming if he thought he could just disappear like that. Babe was fuming and then he remembered Jeff’s exact words. Wait, what, brother, what did he mean?

Alan just sighs looking at him this time and leaves to follow Jeff giving some comfort slaps on his back.
