Work Text:

While her new battle suit didn’t feel like too much of an upgrade at first, Zeta had to admit it was really starting to grow on her. Wearing it throughout the day, she found it comfortable to move around in, and all the new gadgets that she was discovering (having skipped Isaac’s lengthy explanation) intrigued her.

Of course, simply walking around wasn’t going to get her fully adjusted to her new suit, so she figured it was time to get some training in. And who better to ask for a sparring partner than her captain? Wandering around the ship’s halls, Zeta eventually caught Djeeta as she was leaving her quarters.

“Yo, captain!” Zeta called out.

Djeeta stopped and spun around, giving her usual cheerful greeting. “Oh, hey Zeta-” She abruptly paused once she got a gander at Zeta’s new outfit. Her mouth opened to speak again, but no words escaped.

“You up for a sparring session?” Zeta asked. “I need to test out this new get-up Isaac made for me, along with my good pal Arvess.” She pulled out her spear, and proudly showed off the return of her trusted weapon and partner.

However, Djeeta gave no answer. Her eyes wandered all over Zeta’s new outfit, from her new leggings, the coat she seemed to only half wear, and her hair, now untied and flowing down gorgeously.

Zeta tilted her head, confused at the silence. “Hmm? Is something wrong?”

Finally, Djeeta managed to speak. “N-nope! Nothing at all! Just uhh…analyzing your new combat suit! It seems very…nice.”

As Zeta looked upon the other girl, realization set in, as did a smirk on her face. “Oh…you must really be fond of my new look, huh Djeeta?”

“W-What?” The Grandcypher’s indomitable captain now seemed uncharacteristically flustered. “Well... the outfit is quite cool and your hair does look really pretty flowing down like that but-” Once again, she was interrupted, this time by Zeta placing her fingers on Djeeta’s chin and gently tilting it up. They stayed still for a few moments, Zeta wanting to fully commit Djeeta’s expression to memory.

It wasn’t too often that she could see her girlfriend's face flushed crimson after all.

While teasing one another had always been a part of their dynamic, ever since their relationship blossomed into romance, Djeeta always seemed to have the upper hand against Zeta, constantly turning her red with a wide array of outfits and flirtations. But now with her new look, Zeta was finally given an advantage, and she was certainly not just going to let it pass by her untaken.

“I’m happy you like my new outfit, Djeeta.” Zeta whispered while leaning closer, her lips coming dangerously close to her girlfriend’s.

Djeeta gulped and shut her eyes in anticipation. She tried to lean in closer herself, but soon felt Zeta’s lips move to beside her ear.

“I’m going to have to make you wait on that.” Zeta teased. “But…if you give me that sparring session, then maybe I’ll let you have a…closer look at my new clothes in your quarters later.”

“Y-you…” Djeeta muttered, unamused.

Zeta chuckled and left a parting kiss on Djeeta’s cheek before pulling away, now seeing a pout on her girlfriend's face. “Let me grab Vaseraga too, and then meet me outside." She shot a wink at the captain, then turned around and walked away, still sensing Djeeta eyeing her. This turn of events certainly wasn’t expected, but Zeta welcomed it. She smirked again, preparing herself to fluster Djeeta in private later.

The sparring session...didn’t go as planned.

After Zeta, Vaseraga, and Djeeta traded a few rounds back and forth, they got a call from Ilsa. She ordered them to meet up with Eustace and Beatrix to deal with a drone swarm at the seal weapon research factory. After arriving to provide backup, Zeta went further on to take out the drone swarm’s leader.

Unfortunately, that’s when she screwed up.

The entirety of the swarm gathered at her location, and in a misguided attempt to keep the others from danger, she left Bea, Eustace, and Djeeta in the dark by turning off her transmitter. The fight proceeded to go poorly for her and she was on the verge of being defeated before her suit sent out a tracking beacon, letting the others figure out her location.

Once Zeta had her back-up, the swarm was held at bay, and she was free to make a full-powered attack at the swarm’s leader and finish it off.

Afterwards, she was subject to a harsh scolding by Ilsa and the others, berating her for refusing help. Zeta apologized, and The Society began to make plans for the arrival of the next threat, whether it be the Foe or the Moondwellers.

After the debriefing, Zeta headed back to the Grandcypher. Djeeta had returned to the ship already while the Society debriefed, so Zeta needed to apologize to her too. She headed to the Captain’s quarters, and while she was looking forward to the meeting they set up earlier, Zeta figured that it was going to go a bit differently now. She gingerly knocked on the door.

“It’s open.” Djeeta’s voice called out.

Zeta entered, locking the door behind her. She saw Djeeta sitting at her desk, looking over some reports. “Uhh…Djeeta?” Zeta began.

Djeeta sighed and closed her book. She stood up, and walked over to Zeta. Her face was a far cry from the flustered look Zeta saw earlier. Now, there was sadness, anger, and most of all, disappointment.

Zeta began to speak. “I’m sorry. I just didn’t want you to get hurt-”

“You know I’m a lot stronger than you, right?” Djeeta said bluntly.

…Well Zeta wasn’t expecting her to say that. “W-What?”

“You were so worried about us not being able to handle the swarm’s leader that you left us behind. But you do know I could’ve taken it down easily, right?”

“Djeeta, Arvess and I had to use our full power to take it out, it wouldn’t have been so easy-”

In that moment, there was a brief flash of light, and when it subsided, Zeta saw Djeeta’s hair turn blue and spiky.

“...Right. Guider to the Eternal Edge and all that. Yeah, you probably could have handled it. But still, at the time, I didn’t know what it was capable of-”

“Zeta, I did not spend hours upon hours upon hours grinding only for my girlfriend to not trust me to fight alongside her.” Djeeta's hair returned to normal, and to Zeta’s surprise, she lunged forward to embraced her tightly. “I don’t care what you’re facing. Next time, you better call for me at the first sign of trouble, okay?”

Zeta paused, and then nodded, embracing Djeeta back. “Of course, but I expect you to do the same. Whether it’s empires, evil angels, or Otherworlders, I want to be right there by your side.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

They pulled away, and Zeta once again tilted Djeeta’s chin up, seeing her captain gaze sweetly upon her.

Djeeta lunged up, and this time, Zeta very much welcomed the kiss. It was slow, and soon Zeta felt lost in the kiss, pulling Djeeta in closer as she felt the other’s hands running through her hair. They pulled away only for a moment to breathe before Zeta leaned back in, wanting to indulge herself in Djeeta’s lips after a long day. As the kiss deepened, the battle earlier left her mind, and all she could focus on was her captain.

That is until she felt her back hit the wall. Zeta pulled away and realized that during the kiss, Djeeta was slowly pushing her backwards and now had pinned her to the wall. She sighed. “I should’ve expected this from you.”

Djeeta grinned before moving to kiss Zeta’s neck, making her gasp in delight. “You still owe me for that stunt you pulled earlier. And while you offered to let me have a closer look at your new clothes, I think they’ll just get in the way of what I have planned for you.”

Zeta wanted to protest, but she soon felt herself succumbing to Djeeta’s tender affections. As Djeeta’s kisses slowly trailed down her body, the former knight wanted nothing more than to completely give in, and surrender herself to her girlfriend.

“Djeeta…I-I need...”

“Hmm?” Djeeta whispered in between kisses. “What do you need?”

O-Oh…I need…you…”

*bzzt*

“Seriously, Pupper?” came a familiar voice from Zeta’s transmitter.

Djeeta paused and looked back up at Zeta, who was now horrified. “Oh no…I totally forgot-”

“You forgot to turn the transmitter off after we warned you about it, yes.” Ilsa replied from said transmitter. “Now while I didn’t want to ruin the mood of your earlier, admittedly very sweet, conversation, I could very well do without listening in on you two getting intimate.”

“R-Right. Sorry about that Commander, I’ll turn it off right away-”

“Hold on, before that Pupper, I have to say I’m very disappointed in you.”

Zeta looked a bit confused. “Uhhh, ma’am?”

“I know Djeeta is our captain and I have nothing but respect for her, but come on! You can’t just let her have her way with you like that.”

Djeeta snickered as Zeta went from terrified to just embarrassed again. “W-Wait ma’am, it wasn’t like that-”

“You aren’t fooling me, Pupper. I could hear your tone. The Captain had you wrapped around her finger! I didn’t drill all that training into you just to have you begging like that!”

“...I didn’t realize our training applied to intimacy as well, ma’am.”

Thankfully, Zeta was saved by another voice coming from Ilsa’s transmitter. “Dear, don’t be too hard on Zeta. After all, you don’t sound too much different when we’re in bed together.”

Djeeta raised an eyebrow. “Is that you, Heles?”

There were a few moments of silence before Ilsa spoke again. “Cutting off communications now.”

The transmitter went silent, and Zeta took the opportunity to finally shut hers off as well. “Well…that was mortifying. Sorry about that, Djeet-ahh…”

The captain was already back at her work, trailing her kisses down to Zeta’s stomach, before getting on her knees. She let her fingers trace over the edges of Zeta’s pants and looked up at her girlfriend with a quick wink. And despite just having Ilsa berate her for it, Zeta very much wanted whatever Djeeta was about to do to her.

Please.”

It seemed that Zeta was going to need to get a lot stronger if she ever truly wanted to handle Djeeta.
