.:Saccharine:.

Summary:

She turned to look at her secretary, a conflicted look covering her face as icy eyes scanned the girl in question. “I feel.. protective over this particular fish, I do not wish any harm to come to this one anymore.”

Notes:

Returning to my roots with this one huh? With the way I left this fandom and was adamant that I would no longer write anything to do with Kakegurui and especially kirasaya, I have healed myself enough from certain events and have returned soo.. hi to those who may recognise me~ I decided I didn't want to leave my last posted fic of these two to be a bitter one so here we are.

This is set just after chapter 107 for those who are wondering so if you haven't read up until that point, then this might not make a lot of sense.

Work Text:

Dull violets stared down at the ground, ears ringing as the sound of voices became distant and distorted. Sayaka didn’t even seem to process the feeling of a heavy blazer being placed over her head and shoulders, blocking her dishevelled self from the sight of the others in the room.. she didn’t even feel the pressure of a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

“I’m sorry.. I’m sorry.. I-I.. hgn.. sorry”

“Sayaka..”

Breathing shakily, the secretary didn’t even bother to attempt to catch the blood that was trickling from her nose or her busted lip, the faint sound of it dripping into the floorboards being the only distinct noise she could hear- she’d have to clean it up later but for now, it was the farthest thing on her mind. Choking as she took in an uneven breath, her eyes finally focused as she coughed, a manicured hand patting her back.

“Saaa-ya-kaa..”

Hearing the soft chant of her name, Sayaka finally came out of her trance-like state, her head immediately darting up, fast enough to give her whiplash. Meeting familiar aquamarine eyes, they immediately softened as the two locked gazes. Swallowing thickly, she went to apologise again but failed, her throat scratchy as if she had been sobbing for hours.

“Shh, it’s okay.”

Kirari assured. The President was currently on her knees in front of the smaller girl, the puddle of blood nearly soaking into her knees- realising, Sayaka rushed to move back out of fear at covering the girl with it but was immediately grabbed and pulled forward even closer, arms securing themselves around her waist, the crimson liquid staining the girl’s white shirt.

“P-President- Kirari-“

Sputtering, all she was met with was the sound of an amused giggle, the platinum haired girl’s shoulders shaking along with it. Giving in, Sayaka slumped forward into the embrace, finally taking in her surroundings; she was still on the floor in the student council office but.. where had everyone gone? Dull violet’s flicked around but found no one other than the woman she was leaning against. Had Kirari sent everyone out? When had she done that? Her head was spinning.

“Here, let me help you up, Sayaka.”

Wordlessly accepting the help, she was pulled to her feet, Kirari supporting her before carefully sitting the distraught Secretary on the nearby sofa. Shivering slightly, Sayaka finally clocked who the blazer on top of her head belonged to as she saw Kirari move across the room. Feeling her cheeks heat up, she didn’t have much time to process what was happening before Kirari was back in front of her, this time holding a glass of water and tissues in her hands. Offering the glass to the violet haired girl, Sayaka accepted it without hesitation.

“President.. I..”

“Please, you’ve been chanting that you’re sorry for the past hour.. that’s quite enough my dear, it’s fine.”

Kirari spoke softly, cracking a small smile as she leaned down and dabbed Sayaka’s nose with one of the tissues, crimson immediately coating it along with the tips of her fingers.. she didn’t even grimace . Wincing slightly at the pressure on her nose, Sayaka didn’t dare complain as she held her eyes closed, breath hitching.

“How are you feeling?”

“I-I’m alright, President..”

The woman hummed softly in acknowledgment as she swapped the tissue, focused on getting the bleeding to stop. Holding the bridge of the girl’s nose, her eyes finally shifted up and met concerned violets. Flashing another smile, the way her secretary’s cheeks flushed didn’t go unnoticed.. it was endearing.

“Good.. what a shame, they bruised your pretty face..”

Pouting, the platinum haired girl took note of Sayaka’s bruised lip and of course her nose- she felt bad for putting pressure on it but it was necessary for the bleeding to stop.. she was sure Sayaka knew and understood that as well. Closing her eyes once more as if it would hide her embarrassment, the secretary practically screamed internally, her heart hammering against her ribcage- she swore Kirari could hear it with how close the two of them currently were.

“P-Please- let me clean up the mess, i-it’s my fault after all-“

“You won’t be doing anything, Sayaka” Kirari spoke firmly, leaving no room for argument.

Once the bleeding had stopped, Kirari finally released her grip on the smaller girl before crossing the room and cleaning her hands of the blood before tossing the tissues away. Coming to sit down by Sayaka, she gently pulled her blazer off from the top of the girl’s head and properly covered her shoulders with it. Lounging back and making herself comfortable, the two remained in silence for what felt like hours, Sayaka feeling as if she was practically shaking from nerves as she sat. Despite her nerves, the atmosphere was calm and Kirari gazed ahead at the aquarium facing them on the wall, her eyes following one of the fish with childlike curiosity.

“You know..” Kirari was the first one to break the silence as she stared thoughtfully at the marine animal. “I usually enjoy trouble stirring itself up within my aquariums.. the predators consuming those who stand in their way. Never have I once ever taken pity as I watched those at the bottom be crushed.. but, I have to admit.. a particular fish caught my attention recently and became one of my favourites despite its frail nature.” She rambled.

Sayaka watched as her President slowly stood and approached the tank, a delicate hand laying itself on the glass, a shadow covering her face as a particularly large fish passed by her. “I-Is that so, President?” The secretary promoted her to continue.

“Yes..” Kirari’s voice dropped a few octaves. “This little fish, one I initially brought in only due to morbid curiosity, was trampled in front of my very eyes.. and I felt..” she paused, searching for the right words. “Perhaps sad may not be the correct term, neither disappointed.. but, it was enough to make me stop and think.”

She turned to look at her secretary, a conflicted look covering her face as icy eyes scanned the girl in question. “I feel.. protective over this particular fish, I do not wish any harm to come to this one anymore.”

Sayaka’s face contorted into a look of confusion.. Kirari had such an odd way of speaking her own thoughts and emotions, something the secretary had found out rather quickly when she first started working with her. Kirari always spoke in confusing metaphors and never cared to explain herself afterwards.. if you understood then you did and if not- well.. Finally, it clicked in Sayaka’s head what her dearest President meant. I-Is she talking about me?

“President..-“

“Sayaka, my most treasured fish.” Kirari stepped forward towards the seated girl, softly grasping ahold of her chin and tilting her head up to meet her eyes. “Please don’t put yourself at risk, even if it is for my sake. I am perfectly content with things as long as I have you by my side..”

Sayaka swore she had forgotten how to breathe, dull violets wide as she seemed to be at a loss for words. Really.. Kirari was so peculiar, Sayaka could never truly understand her- she was her exact opposite and disobeyed the rules of everything logical. The Secretary opened her mouth to speak but before she could, she was cut off as lips pressed against her knuckles, the President having grabbed ahold of her hand and raised it up.

“Kirari..” Sayaka murmured, her face hot- she knew she probably looked like a tomato at this point but she was beyond caring.

“Join me for a walk, Sayaka?”

“Anything for you, President.”

Biting back a shiver, Sayaka’s eyes scanned their surroundings as Kirari led them outside, walking behind the academy on a familiar gravel path. Still with Kirari’s blazer resting upon her shoulders, she wondered how on earth the other girl wasn’t cold with the way she briskly walked ahead with only her shirt.. It was so cold there was even frost on the ground but she seemed completely unperturbed.

Being drawn out of her thoughts upon hearing a breathy giggle, she nearly tripped as she stopped abruptly, seconds away from crashing into Kirari completely.

“Dear me, what’s occupying your thoughts, darling?”

“F-Forgive me- I-I was just thinking that with how cold it is.. y’know..” her words fell short as she found herself becoming lost in softened aquamarine’s.

Smirking, Kirari held Sayaka’s gaze for a long moment before extending her hand and playfully tapping a blue manicured finger against her cheek, immediately capturing her attention once more with a chuckle.

“Adorable..~”

Sayaka swore her brain short circuited at that.

Turning away before Sayaka could utter a word or even attempt to question her, Kirari began walking forward once more, her ever loyal secretary on her heels immediately. Sayaka wasn’t entirely sure where Kirari was taking her on this walk of theirs but they cut through the school’s gardens, the flowers still blooming beautifully despite the cold weather. Taking a moment to appreciate the scenery, Sayaka found herself smiling softly.. Even if these flowers weren’t lilies; her favourite flowers, she still found them pleasing to look at.

“Do you remember the tower of doors?”

Being interrupted from appreciating the flowers, Sayaka raised her head and glanced towards Kirari before nodding in confirmation, “Yes, of course I remember.” It was where I basically admitted my love for you.

Kirari smiled. “Shall we pay it a visit?”

“Of course.”

Sayaka hadn’t been here since that gamble with Yumeko but it looked as if the tower had remained untouched ever since then. The lilies were clearly still tended to as they stood proudly, covering the grass in a beautiful sea of white. Feeling a hand slip into her own, the secretary didn’t dare question it as she simply returned the grip, gazing to the woman by her side.

“It’s still as beautiful as I remember it being, President.”

Not as beautiful as you.. Kirari wanted to reply, yet she held her tongue. “Yes, I make sure that the place is tended to with the utmost care.” It was built for you after all.. A declaration of my love for you and only you.

Wandering forward, Kirari crouched down before plucking one of the flowers in question. Smiling to herself, she straightened up and turned to the smaller girl. Humming in question as she was approached, Sayaka curiously watched- what she hadn’t been expecting however was for Kirari to delicately cup her cheek and slide the stem of the flower behind her ear with a smile.

Lowering her head, Sayaka couldn’t do much to conceal the blush that had formed on her cheeks at such a simple action. Kirari smiled mischievously as her secretary shied away from her, her hand affectionately stroking her cheek before she proceeded to tilt the girl’s head back up to meet her.

“Kirari..” The violet haired girl murmured as she daringly moved closer, her hands moving to rest against the president’s shoulders.

Violets stared into blues fearlessly until Kirari moved, one of her arms looping around the shorter woman’s waist whilst she craned her neck down. Pausing briefly, she searched for any form of hesitancy before she proceeded, blue lips pressing against cherry red. The kiss was soft and brief but was nothing short of affection and pure love.

“Pre- Kirari, I love you-” Before she could even process it, the words were out her mouth, anxiously, she clasped a hand over her mouth as if that would cover up what she had just said. Ready to throw a thousand apologies at the taller girl, she didn’t get the chance to do so.

Chuckling airily, Kirari pressed her forehead to Sayaka’s, eyes closed as she took the moment to simply hold the girl and that was all Sayaka needed to calm her anxiety. “I love you too, Sayaka.. Terribly so in fact.”

What a relief to finally hear without any odd metaphors. Perfectly direct and straightforward.

Sayaka let out a sigh of relief as her own arms moved to wrap around Kirari, holding onto the girl tight as if she would wake up and all of this would be nothing but a dream.. But, that moment never came, the arms tightening her own waist only solidifying that fact.
