Work Text:
“You are aware that I am normally not awake at this hour, Ms. Morgan,” Trent says, stepping up beside Rachel.
They’re standing in the middle of the bridge in Eden Park. Rachel is leaning over the railing, talking to the troll. She’s negotiating privacy, something Trent wouldn’t have thought she was good at when they first met. He wasn’t wrong about that, in most circumstances, but she has a way of inspiring loyalty in the people she deems worthy. He’s grateful to have made his way onto that list.
“It’s high noon, Kalamack,” Rachel retorted, straightening up and turning to look at him.
“Is this to be a standoff? You should have warned me. I didn’t bring my gun.”
Rachel rolls her eyes. Trent smirks, making her roll them again.
“I brought mine,” she says. She looks like she wants to reach into her bag and show him, but, fortunately, refrains.
“You didn’t lure me away from my nap just to hit me with a sleep charm,” Trent says, keeping his humor from his voice.
Rachel laughs. “I thought we could have a picnic.”
Trent narrows his eyes. “You’re staking someone out and need an excuse to be here.”
“Busted.”
