Work Text:
Not many angels beared red eyes. It was a sign of damnation in heaven, and Sera knew that well.
The most infamous example was of course Lucifer, the troublemaker who corrupted humanity. He was the name that came to people’s minds when they talked about reddish eyes, and the reason the tradition began. Lucifer was a sign of doom for whoever viewed him, and the color of his pupils was a sign that hell lied it’s eyes on you.
And so the myth of the red eyes began. It was said that the ones who had them would be sources of chaos and those that looked directly at them would be brought misfortune.
Sera however felt she was wiser than that. Even if the red eyes slightly intimidated her she knew they were just eye colors angels had, not the cameras of Lucifer’s spies. But since it wasn’t common to see that in heaven she easily avoided seeing those colors in someone’s eyes.
When Lucifer’s daughter came to heaven Sera noticed she had her father’s eyes. She didn’t think much of, as Charlie just seemed like a naive girl with an impossible dream she dreamed to achieve.
But deep down when she looked at the princess she felt a slight sign of warning.
Now she looked at the snake, the first redeemed sinner. His eyes were colored red, and for the first time in centuries Sera let her fear of the red eyes be known.
As she looked at those eyes she saw Lucifer, she saw the sinners, she saw the extermination, and she even saw Emily’s reaction to it once she found out.
And in that moment she knew it.
She was doomed.
