Work Text:
A lot more years late on in their relationship, Dan Feng would sleep curled close to Yingxing in a shared bed; the nights in Luofu were never cold; yet Dan Feng loved Yingxing's warmth, the heated flush of his skin and the gentle beat of his heart.
Dan Feng did not get much a chance to go out as he liked and soon, he'll have to take on more duties. His teacher, Preceptor Xuepu, made it known that she was not happy of him visiting the furnaces more than twice a week.
Ah, but within Dan Feng, there was still this rebellious streak that Xuepu did not know how it had started, and maybe the fires wielded by that craftsman kindled it.
That one night Xuepu went away for a voyage to another delve, Dan Feng took chance to visit Yingxing and they spent the night together in the small house given to Yingxing as a furnace craftsman.
The Vidyadhara listened avidly to Yingxing's stories, of each curio he made, of each delve he visited to look for new materials to forge a new weapon he had in mind. He offered none of his own thoughts, only happy to just listen.
In that delve, the temperature was tuned down to mimic an onset of winter even though the artificial climate generator in Luofu could bring year-round summer if the citizens wanted.
But winter, with its chill and cold, meant a gathering of hotpots and soups, cheery nights around a biokinetic fire and for Dan Feng, to sleep skin to skin warmed by the man next to him, in their bed.
Yet, Dan Feng worried a little about the patches of scales on his skin, where no one seen, hidden by his garments. But when Yingxing praised how pretty they looked, with their iridescence that gleamed like moon on the crests of waves.
The Vidyadhara elder felt his ears heat with the admiration the craftsman showed but he said nothing, and only nodded as they laid down together in Yingxing's bed.
Winter nights were spent like this, talking into the deep night, curled up in blankets thick and fluffy. There were nights they never slept, and Dan Feng watched the stars reflect in Yingxing's eyes as they conversed.
It would be hours before sleep took over first, and Dan Feng watched Yingxing fall sleep while he finally doze off, their bodies and legs twined around each other; a dragon and his future mate.
