Dan Feng who's always been waited on, and had attendants, suddenly wanting to cook a meal for Yingxing would be cute. Imagine him asking Yueyan what he must do, and hiding his deed from his teacher Xuepu who questions about the knife-cuts on his fingers.
As a successor to the High Elder, he was watched, guarded, and cared for by numerous Vidyadhara and Pearlkeepers. The friends he knew were merely study-mates who would serve him later.
Yingxing told him stories of another planet, other marvelous places and curios he had seen. Dan Feng was no stranger to mystical tales, but this short-lived species intrigued him.
There were moments he sneaked out to roam the Luofu night streets with the young craftsman, running away from his attendants. They had the most succulently sweet songlotus cakes while watching the starskiffs zip above.
Yingxing commented how much better these cakes were from the place he came from, that they had sweet rockcrab roe in them.
"I'll make them for you as my gratitude then," Dan Feng declared. There was a crumb of cake on his upper lip, and his beautiful face looked silly.
"You would?" The young man laughed good-naturedly. "Good rockcrab are only farmed by the Vidyadhara. Oh, right, you're a Vidyadhara, aren't you?"
"Are you telling me to go hunt for rockcrab in Scalegorge?" Dan Feng frowned. His tongue snaked out gently to lick the crumb off.
"Surely you can," Yingxing smirked a little. "You're a High Elder. I'm sure they won't stop you from fishing in your own pond."
"It's not a pond," Dan Feng muttered, and he looked up at a starskiff that took his attention. "Three days."
"What?"
"I'll make you a box of crabroe songlotus cakes in three days."
Dan Feng was not looking at him.
Yingxing smiled.
"I'll wait for it."
