You Are The Only Exception

Summary:

It’s a man, Felix can’t see much in the darkness of the alley but he can tell by the long legs and wide shoulders, he’s an alpha, his petrichor scent letting the omega know that he’s in pain. The man’s breathing is labored, hand holding his side where the blonde can see as a dark patch formed on his white shirt.

“Oh my god.”

The omega falls to his knees beside him, hand going to press on the wound when there’s a growl and the man open hazy eyes to glare at him, he raises his hands in a placating way.

“I’m not going to hurt you, let me help.”

The alpha studies him for a moment before he groans in pain again and slumps back into the wall, Felix presses his hand on the wound, thick, warm blood pour into his fingers. What should he do? He probably can’t carry the man to the hospital, maybe he should call an ambulance? That’s it, he’ll call an ambulance. But before he can take his phone there’s a ringtone that comes from the man, he looks up and to his horror the alpha’s passed out now, head hanging low, his long, dark hair falling in front of his face.

“Shit.”

Chapter Text

・✧・゚: *✧* :゚・✧ ・

Felix lowers his chin a little bit, angling his face more to the right as lights flash continuously. He had to get used to it a long time ago when he decided to become a model and now it barely bothers him.

At the age of twenty-five he’s pretty proud of himself, he’s recognized for his job and worked with some of the most important designer brands in the world. He owes a lot of it to his manager, Chan, who found him in the coffee shop Felix used to work part time during college, he remembers how he had felt uncomfortable as the man stared at him for a long while before handing him a card and telling Felix that if he was interested he could have a job for him, he had been suspicious at first, but with a lot of research and a visit to the agency, in less than a week he had a new job. One that he rapidly started to love.

The omega was a natural, it wasn’t hard to get jobs for him but sometimes Chan had to decline them because they wanted to cover his freckles and white wash his face, his manager knew how that made Felix uncomfortable and feeling self-conscious, so he avoided that kind of jobs. The blonde will always be thankful for how he took care of him.

“It’s very good, Felix. You can go change outfits and come back in ten minutes.”

The photographer calls, the omega nods and jumps from the chair he’s perched on, rushing to the changing room before he goes to the hair and make up for a retouch. He’s putting in a new pair of pants when he hears the door open, he looks up to see the lighting director coming into the room.

“Do you need the room? I’ll be done in a minute and you can have it.”

“Felix-ssi, you’re an omega, right?”

The man asks as he closes the door and the blonde can hear the subtle sound of the lock being turned, he tenses and keeps his eyes on the other man as he puts on his shirt.

“Yes.”

The man’s smile widens as he takes a step closer.

“Excellent! My next shoot will be only with omegas and I would love to have you on it. You just have to come home tonight with me so we can discuss a few things.”

“You can talk with Chan.”

“No, I think it would be better if we discussed it alone.”

He raises his hand as if he’s going to caress the omega’s neck, but before he can touch him, Felix grabs his hand and spin him around so he’s pulling his arm behind his back, the blonde kicks his leg, sending the man to his knees.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

Felix bends down so he can hiss at the man.

“I’m not available tonight or ever for you. If you try to touch me again, I’ll have you arrested.”

With that he shoves the man, who hits the ground face first, and rushes out of the room, his heart is beating like crazy inside his chest, but unfortunately that’s not the first time something like this happened, he’s grateful that he had a passion for taekwondo on his childhood that still remains to today, it’s one of the activities he does to keep fit and has the benefit of keeping himself safe on occasions like this. Chan finds him just as he’s walking to hair and make up, the alpha takes one look at his face and pulls him to the side.

“What happened? Are you ok?”

“I’m fine. The lighting director proposed for me to go to his house later and he tried to touch me.”

Chan’s eyes flare, he takes a step as if to go after the man but the omega stops him.

“I already gave him an answer.”

“I’ll make sure that the word spreads around about the kind of man he is.” His eyes search Felix’s face. “Do you want to end the shoot? We can finish it another day.”

The omega shakes his head.

“No, we’re almost finished. I would like to finish it now so we can be done.”

“Ok.”

The alpha squeezes his arm and lets his wrist rub along his skin, scenting him subtly, he smiles gratefully at the other as his familiar scent of firewood calms him further. The omega walks inside the make up room and he can hear in the distance the shouts as that sleazy alpha is escorted out of the shooting room.

He takes a sip of water and perches himself back into the chair.

It’s another half hour before the photographer calls that they’re finished, the model bows and thanks everyone for their hard work before walking to the changing room and putting on his loose jeans and an oversized black t-shirt. Chan knocks on the door and opens it when Felix calls out that it’s ok.

“Do you want a ride?”

He waits by the threshold and walks beside him to the elevators.

“It’s ok, my apartment is close and I would like to walk for a while.”

His manager studies him for a moment as they wait for the lift to reach the ground floor.

“Are you sure?”

The blonde smiles at him.

“Yes.”

“Ok, you can call me if you need anything.”

He nods as they walk out of the building, he waves at Chan and turns to make the familiar way to his apartment. It’s late at night, not late enough that there’s no one in the streets but late enough that the only people he passes by are drunks and late night workers. The weather is nice, the night breeze making his hair fly away from his face as he walks, he turns into a familiar alley when he hears a groan that makes him stop on his tracks, his eyes scan the dark alley before he sees a slumped figure leaning against the wall a few meters away, Felix contemplates turning around and taking the longer way to his apartment when there’s another pained groan and he’s moving before he can think better.

“Shit.”

He scrambles to fish the alpha’s cellphone out of his blazer’s pocket and accepts the call.

“Hyunjin? Where are you?”

A voice question desperately from the other side, Felix’s frozen for a moment.

“Uh…”

“Who is it?” The man growls in a dark tone.

“I found your friend? He passed out in an alley and he’s wounded.”

There’s a string of swear words on the other side of the line and the sound of people shouting before the man speaks again.

“Where are you?”

Felix tells him their location.

“I’ll be there in a few minutes.”

The call disconnects and the omega puts the cellphone back into the alpha’s pocket, he uses his now bloodied fingers to push the dark strands of hair out of his face and behind his ear, keeping the pressure on the wound with his other hand, the man’s breathing is slow now and the omega freaks out that maybe he’ll die on him, there’s a lot of blood on the ground.

“Please don’t die. Please don’t die. Please don’t die.”

He chants as he waits for the man’s friend to come get him. It takes a few minutes but it feels like hours before a car stops by the end of the alley and a muscled man comes running in their direction.

“I’ll take it from here.”

The man says and swings the unconscious man’s arm around his neck, Felix has no doubt that he can carry the alpha alone, but he still puts his other arm around his neck to help the muscled man drag the unconscious alpha to the car. There’s another man that opens the back door so they can put the alpha inside, the muscled guy closes the door and turns to stare at Felix, his eyes widen for a moment before he smooths his expression into a neutral one.

“Thank you.”

The omega nods.

“Please, take care of him.”

“I will.”

With that the muscled man bows and rushes back into the car before they disappear into the night, the blonde turns to walk to his apartment.

Well it was a really eventful night.

・✧・゚: *✧* :゚・✧ ・

Felix’s grateful that today’s his day off because he really needed the extra sleep he got this morning, his body feels lighter after finally getting the rest that he needed, it’s been an unusual few busy days. Word spread around about what happened with that scumbag alpha and he has received a lot of support and more job offers since he’s being seen as someone that stands up against harassment and more people want him to represent their brands.

The thought brings a smile to his face, it makes him feel really proud of himself knowing that he’s an example for other models and omegas in general. As easy as the smile came a frown takes its place as he passes the alley. It’s been a week since Felix helped the wounded alpha. He wonders what happened to him, he hopes that he’s well and healing, unfortunately there’s no way for him to know how the man’s doing, but there’s no reason for him to reminisce in something he can’t control.

He enters the grocery store that he goes to weekly, waving and smiling warmly at the old lady behind the counter who smiles back at him.

“Hello, Mrs. Kim. How are you?”

“Yongbok dear, so good to see you. I’m very well and you?”

She comes to clasp his hands between her weathered ones, her long silver braid pulled onto her shoulder.

“I’m doing well.”

She tsks and looks him up and down.

“Too skinny, you’re too skinny. I have a bowl of kimchi for you, take it when you finish your shopping.”

Felix smiles fondly at her and doesn’t try to discuss, she’s always worried that he’s not eating enough and always send him back home with containers of homemade food, but he won’t complain, her food is delicious. He grabs a cart and goes on his way to buy what he needs.

He grabs the kimchi with the old woman on the cashier when he’s finished, smiling and thanking her.

“Bye Mrs. Kim, see you in a few days.”

The omega walks out of the store, the morning sun shines on his face and he closes his eyes to bask into it for a moment.

“Felix.”

The blonde turns and wow, just wow. Felix’s a model, he sees beautiful people on a daily basis but the man standing in front of him is the most beautiful person he has ever seen. He has long, dark hair that frames his perfect face; upturned dark eyes; pale, smooth skin; wide shoulders and long legs. The omega has to look up to meet his gaze. The alpha’s wearing a black full suit with a black shirt, he must be melting in the heat.

“Do I know you?”

He takes a step back and see the man’s face fall in disappointment for a moment.

“You don’t remember me.”

Felix has never dealt with a stalker before, but maybe that’s what this man is, one of those crazy fans that think they know you because they follow your career. The omega takes a step back, why did his have to be so handsome?

The alpha raises his hands placatingly, the wind blows his hair in front of his face and for a second, he seems familiar.

“I’m not going to hurt you. I just want to thank you.”

“For what?”

He asks warily but before the alpha can answer, he sees movement behind him, a man in a black cap rushes to the alpha’s back, there’s the glint of a knife in the sun and Felix acts before he can think, he pulls the man out of the way, who turns them so he’s holding the omega against his chest and out of harm’s way too. The man in the cap snarls in frustration and charges at the alpha again, who blocks the knife with his arm, before punching the assailant’s throat, the man gasps and the alpha punches him again in the jaw, knocking him out cold.

Felix blinks for a moment and then the alpha’s in front of him, holding his face and searching his eyes with a dark, concerned gaze.

“Are you ok?”

The omega nods mutely, still in shock with what just happened, the alpha sighs.

“That’s the second time you saved my life.”

The blonde frowns at his words but before he can ask what the other mean, a familiar muscled guy comes running down the street.

“Hey, boss. Are you ok?”

The alpha’s nodding when Felix finally says.

“You’re the guy from the alley!”

They both turn to look at him, the muscled alpha bows.

“Hello, Mr. Lee.”

“No, there’s no need for that. You can call me Felix.”

The muscled man looks at the other alpha before looking back at the omega.

“I’ll stick with Mr. Lee.”

The taller man nods in the direction of his assailant.

“Take him back, I have some questions for later.”

Without another word the smaller man pulls the assailant over his shoulder and walks off, like that’s a normal occurrence for them. Felix stares at him dumbfounded.

“Uh…”

“I’m sorry for this. Will you let me take you to dinner as a thank you for saving my life twice?”

Every inch of the beautiful man looks like trouble, the smart thing would be to decline the invitation and say that he doesn’t owe him anything, but there’s a part of Felix that wants to know this man, wants to see what he’ll do if he gives him the opportunity. He knows deep down that the alpha won’t hurt him, not just because he saved his life, but because his omega knows that he’s not dangerous, at least not to Felix.

“You can take me to dinner.”

He smiles and wow again, he looks even more ravishing smiling. What the hell? His petrichor scent smell of pleased alpha, he bows and takes Felix’s small hand into his before placing a gentle kiss on the back of his hand. The omega is speechless, he’s not sure that he’ll survive if the alpha keeps acting like this.

“I’ll come get you at six if that’s ok with you.”

The smaller nods mutely, the dark haired man gives him another charming smile before turning to go and Felix finally finds his voice.

“Wait!” The taller man stops and look back at him. “I don’t know your name.”

His grin can only be described as wolfish.

“It’s Hyunjin. Hwang Hyunjin.”

With that he gets into the waiting car and goes away.

・✧・゚: *✧* :゚・✧ ・

Felix’s feeling jittery, he hasn’t been in a date in ages. It’s not a date. He has to keep reminding himself, it’s a thank you dinner, it’s just that the only dinner he has been on recently have been business dinners or events. Hyunjin didn’t say where they would go, so he has no idea what to wear, but considering that the man had shown up in the middle of the street in a full suit, Felix decides to be safe and settles on white dress pants and a baby blue satin shirt, he pulls on white dress shoes, a silver hop on his ear and a ring. He considers putting on scent blockers but decides not to, he’s not going on a work event, he’ll just have dinner and enjoy it.

The knocking on his door has him scrambling to his living room in a rush, so much for the grace of a model.

Hyunjin’s standing on the other side of the door, looking impossibly handsome. Felix was right for choosing to dress up. The alpha’s wearing black dress pants paired with a dark blue shirt that have the first few buttons opened, his hair is in a half ponytail with a few strands framing his face and he’s holding a bouquet of pink lilies.

“Hello.”

The omega says, the taller smiles at him and offers the flowers. Felix takes them into his arms, to smell their sweet floral scent and looks up at the other.

“You didn’t have to bring me flowers.”

“They reminded me of you.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, you smell like a spring day.”

The other answer with a small smile, bringing a blush to the blonde’s freckled cheeks. It’s the nicest way anyone has ever described his scent and he love it.

“I’ll just put them in a vase and we can go.” He turns and start walking into his kitchen. “You can come in.”

Hyunjin takes a tentative step inside, like he thinks that the ground will open and shallow him. Felix haven’t seen it in a long time, to be honest, he thinks he has never seen someone act like this out of movies. More traditional alphas take an omega inviting them into their den really seriously, it’s a show of trust that most people disregard nowadays. Felix finds it endearing.

He pulls a vase out of his cabinet and fills it with water before putting the bouquet inside of it. He looks at the flowers for a moment before turning to Hyunjin who’s watching his every move.

“Thanks for the flowers, I love them.”

The alpha’s smile is charming.

“You’re welcome. Shaw we go?”

He offers his arm to the omega, who accepts it as they walk out of his apartment.

Felix has never been to this restaurant before, it’s new, he knows that the waiting list is months long, he has no idea how Hyunjin got a reservation in such a short time. The restaurant’s in the terrace of a hotel, it’s decorated so it looks like a fairytale. There’s small, twinkling lights and candles hanging from vines and intertwined in the tree in the middle of the courtyard, there’s a small fountain too, the sound of water soothing and welcoming, and roses, so many pink roses everywhere, on vases and hanging from the vines, artfully intertwined with the lights.

The waitress welcomes them by name and guide the pair to a table from where they can look at the city below.

“This place is really beautiful.”

Felix comments as they sit.

“I’m glad you like it.”

He can’t contain his curiosity and asks.

“How did you get a reservation in such a short time? I heard that’s almost impossible to get a reservation here.”

“The owner is a … friend of mine.”

He nods and looks down at his menu. Everything looks so good, it’s hard for him to decide what he’ll get.

“Did you choose?”

He raises his gaze to find Hyunjin looking at him and their waitress waiting by their table, he puts the menu down.

“I’ll have the salmon, please.”

She notes his order and turns to the alpha.

“For me the steak.”

“And for drinking? We have an excellent collection of wines.”

The waitress hands him what must be the wine list.

“Do you drink?” The dark haired man asks.

“A little.”

“Do you wish to choose?” When the omega shakes his head no, the alpha hands the list back to her. “Bring us a bottle of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, please.”

She bows and walks off. Felix looks around the place, there’s a few other couples seated around them but they’re far enough that he can just hear the murmur of their voices. He feels the alpha’s eyes staring at him and turns to the other.

“What?”

“It’s nice to finally meet you.”

Their waitress comes back with the wine and pours it on their glasses, the omega is grateful that she distracts the other enough so he doesn’t see the blush on his face.

“How did you find me?”

He asks when she goes away and takes a sip of the wine.

“Changbin recognized you that night, it’s hard not to when your face is in half of the outdoors in the city.”

“Oh.”

Felix has no idea what to say to that, he feels his cheeks burning again, but he doesn’t know why.

“But that doesn’t explain how you found my address.”

Hyunjin shifts on his seat.

“It’s easy to find that kind of information in my line of work.”

The omega leans his elbows on the table, entangling his fingers as he leans his chin on his hands and stare at the alpha.

“And what is your line of work?”

“I have a few fronts of business. I work with construction, importation and exportation, and a few other things.”

“But that’s not how you found my address.”

Hyunjin stares at him, his dark eyes unreadable.

“No, that’s not.”

It’s almost a confirmation to Felix’s suspicions, he doesn’t know what to do with that information, but does he really care? As long as the other isn’t hurting innocent people he won’t condemn him for his work. He can see how the alpha’s shoulders are tense, as if his life depends on what Felix will say next, the omega takes another slow sip of his wine and leans back on his chair.

“How’s your wound?”

The dark haired man blinks once and then twice before his shoulders relax.

“It’s healing, I pulled some stitches today when that guy attacked us, but already took care of it.”

Felix looks at the side of his stomach worriedly, as if he could see through his clothes to the wound that’s hidden there. Their waitress comes back with their plates, the scent that wafts from it is heavenly, the omega thanks her before taking a forkful of his dish, there’s an explosion of flavors on his mouth, he closes his eyes in bliss and lets out a small, satisfied noise.

“This is so good!”

When he looks up, Hyunjin’s staring at him as if transfixed, gaze darker than a moment before, he clears his throat.

“Won’t you eat?”

The alpha blinks before ducking his head and cutting a piece of his meat. They eat in peaceful silence for a while before Felix asks.

“Does this kind of thing happen a lot?”

“What?”

The blonde lowers his voice a little, even knowing that the people around can’t hear them.

“You being attacked.”

Hyunjin takes another sip of his wine before shrugging.

“Sometimes, it increased this last month because I’m closing a deal with a supplier that my rivals wanted, so they’re trying to take me out of the board.”

Felix mulls his words for a while, he has no idea what it’s like to have your life being constantly threatened, always having to look over your shoulder and not being able to trust others.

“Does it bother you?”

His dark eyes are fixed on the omega as he meticulously cuts a piece of his meat.

“I don’t know, I have no idea what it’s like to live like that, always on alert.”

“You get used to it.”

“Have this always been your life?”

“It’s the only life I know.”

Felix’s heart hurts for him. Does he have a moment of reprieve? Of peace? Does he know kindness and love? He has been kind to the omega so far, but has anyone ever been kind to him?

“Do you have a family?”

He asks as he pierces the last bite of his salmon, for a moment he mourns that it’s gone but focus back on the alpha when he talks.

“My mom died when I was ten and my father when I was eighteen. I don’t have siblings.”

He extends his arm until he can hold the man’s warm hand and gives it a gentle squeeze.

“I’m sorry you lost them.”

“It was a long time ago.”

“It must be lonely.”

Hyunjin shrugs and his heart breaks a little for him.

“You get used to it.” He looks at their empty plates before asking. “Dessert?”

“Absolutely.”

Felix gives him a smile and the alpha calls for their waitress.

“What do you want?”

Hyunjin looks expectantly at him.

“A petit gateau.”

“The same for me.” The alpha waits for her to go away before asking. “So, tell me more about you.”

“What do you want to know?”

“How did you become a model? Was it something you ever wanted or it just happened?”

Felix leans back into his chair, gaze wandering to the view of the city for a moment before fixing back on the other.

“It just happened to be honest. During college I worked part time at a coffee shop, one day my manager walked in, he stared at me for a whole two minutes. It really freaked me out!” He laughs. “Even more when he came to the counter and gave me a card, saying that he’s a scouter from a model agency and that he liked me. And I was like: this guy is lying to me. I researched about the agency and found that it was real, when I showed up, Chan, my manager, he was so happy and the deal was better than my barista salary, so I took it. The rest is story as they say.”

“What were you studying in college?”

“Dance.”

Hyunjin shallows his wine, eyes widening a little.

“You dance?”

Felix gives him a small smile.

“Not much anymore, I dance and do taekwondo to help me keep my physical condition.”

He waits for the other’s answer. He always gets mixed reactions when he says he does martial arts, some cheer him on and some say that fighting is not a sport omegas should do, to the people who say it he tells them where they can shove their prejudice.

Hyunjin raises his eyebrows.

“You do taekwondo?”

“Yeah.”

He can see as the taller man appraises him, as if seeing the blonde in a new light, there’s a dark glint in his eyes when his gaze finds Felix’s again.

“I would like to spar with you some time, if you’re comfortable with that.”

Wow. The alpha keeps surprising him, he’s making it really difficult for the omega to not like him and he’s always so polite! It makes his omega preen at being treated this way.

He’s saved from having to answer when the waitress brings their desserts, Felix tucks into his and avoids looking at the alpha for a good five minutes until Hyunjin prompts again.

“So?”

He decides to play dumb.

“So?”

“Would you like to spar with me sometime?” He gives him a wolfish grin. “I promise to not go easy on you.”

His words make warmth spread on Felix’s lower abdomen, suddenly he realizes that he wants this alpha, wants him like he never wanted anyone before. He takes a big sip of his wine to try to calm down his nerves at the realization.

“I would love to see you try to take on me.”

The alpha growls playfully at the challenge, he snaps his teeth, showing his pointed fangs. The action sends a shiver down the omega’s spine and the heat spread from his abdomen down to his navel and groin. Dear lord, this man’s going to be the end of him. His face must be really red because he feels his cheeks flaming hot, Hyunjin pours some water in a glass and hand it to him, he accepts the glass gratefully before draining it in one go. He takes another bite of his melting ice cream to help cool down and keeps his eyes on the city’s twinkling lights to avoid the other’s stare.

The alpha waits in silence as he finishes his dessert and calms down and then he makes Felix’s heart jump when he takes a velvet box out of his suit, he pushes it on the table in the omega’s direction, the blonde looks at the box and back to the man repeatedly. He knows what it means for an alpha to give jewelry to an omega, it could be seen as a courting gift, but they barely know each other, he couldn’t mean that, right?

“Hyunjin…”

“It’s a thank you gift.”

He carefully takes the black velvet box with Bvlgari written in gold on top, when he opens it there’s a silver necklace nestled in plush velvet. It’s a silver chain with a round pendant, it’s simple and beautiful. Felix loves it instantly.

“Thank you, it’s beautiful.”

He smiles up at the alpha who seems to let out the breath he was holding, he can see as he preens at his acceptance.

“Can I put it on you?”

That’s a bold request, Felix has no idea what will come out of their encounter but the idea of the other placing his gift on him makes him want to purr in contentment, he wants it, wants him close, wants him to touch.

So, he nods and waits with bated breath as the alpha raises from his seat and takes the chain carefully out of the box, the touch of calloused fingers on his nape sends a shiver down his spine. Hyunjin runs his fingers along his nape briefly, it’s a barely there touch but Felix knows that his petrichor scent will linger on his skin, his eyes flutter and he suppresses a purr. The taller man looks down at him, eyes shining with an emotion the omega can’t place.

“It’s perfect.”

He preens at the compliment.

“Are you ready to go?”

He mourns for a moment that it’s the end of their dinner but there’s no reason for him to postpone their departure, so he accepts the arm Hyunjin offers him and follows the alpha to the exit.

“The bill?”

Felix asks when they pass their waitress, who wishes them a goodnight.

“Don’t worry, it’s already settled.”

He follows the alpha to his black Maserati, where Hyunjin opens the door for him like the gentleman he is. The omega has no idea what to say on their ride back to his apartment. Will he ever see the alpha again? Was it a one time thing? Did he invite Felix only to thank him? Will the alpha leave him with just a taste of what could be? He knows that he’s filling the car with his anxious smell, Hyunjin takes his hand and kisses the back of it tenderly.

“What is it?”

He thinks if he should or not ask the questions that are running inside his head when they enter his street. Oh, to hell with it!

“Will I ever see you again?”

He bites his lower lip, his small fang digging into the plump flesh, the dark haired man parks the car before turning to him, he raises his free hand to the blonde’s face and uses his thumb to pull his lower lip until it escapes his teeth, his thumb caresses his jaw slowly, dark eyes seem to stare into Felix’s very soul.

“Do you want to see me again?”

“Yes.”

His voice is no more than a whisper but the alpha hears him anyway.

“Give me your phone.”

The omega unblocks and hands it to the other, the taller taps for a moment before there’s the sound of a familiar ringtone and hands it back.

“There, now we have each other’s number. You can call me whenever you want and we can go out again when you’re available.”

Felix nods.

“I really liked tonight.”

“Me too, it’s been a long while since the last time I enjoyed a dinner so much.”

The blonde preens at him, the dark haired man brings his hand to his lips again to press a tender kiss against his knuckles.

“Good night, Hyunjin.”

“Good night, Felix.”
