Work Text:
Marlene, their band’s lead singer, counted down from three before the start of each song. It had become a common occurrence. Mary was overjoyed when their fans would sign along with Marlene.
Today’s crowd was larger than in previous concerts, and they seemed to be enjoying the music. Bobbing heads and swinging hands in the air. The stage’s lights were shining down on the band, and their faces were all glistening with sweat.
The vibrations of the music thrummed through the soles of Mary’s feet to the tips of her fingers. She strummed the bass guitar like it was her lover: gentle, but with passion and honesty. Music was her first love. Being unable to hear music didn’t prevent her from enjoying it.
At the chorus, she gravitated toward Marlene. Marlene sang to her, staring into her eyes before looking at the crowd. Mary paid close attention to her mouth, watching her sing her soul out. Marlene was mesmerizing on stage when singing.
She was a beautiful girl with blond-dyed hair, multiple face piercings, and tattoos done by her tattoo artist ex-boyfriend. Mary was in love with her. Had been for the past two years. Yet she was too afraid to confess her feelings.
They ended the night at midnight, leaving the stage exhausted. Mary cleaned her face and neck with a towel, and she chugged down a glass of water. An arm wrapped around her neck, and she was pulled into the chest of Marlene.
“Get off.” Mary flushed.
Marlene moved away, grinning and signing, “That was incredible. The atmosphere was better than any other show we have done.”
Mary didn’t get a chance to respond as someone bumped into her. It was their drummer, Dorcas; she hadn’t been paying attention as she had been checking out the guitarist’s, Narcissa’s, ass. Mary fell into Marlene’s chest.
They were pillowy and Mary accidentally squeezed one of them before Marlene straightened her. She was looking at Dorcas with a frown, most likely scolding her. Mary was too worried about having touched Marlene’s boob to even attempt to lip read.
It didn’t seem Marlene had noticed, instead asking Mary if she wanted a ride home. Either pay for a cab or ride Marlene’s motorbike. She took up Marlene’s offer and thanked her.

Her hands were on Marlene’s waist, her heartbeat pounding. The summer night wind was refreshing, cooling her burning cheeks. It was torturous to be so close to her crush. Her mind was spiking with an abundance of thoughts.
The tips of her fingers brushed Marlene’s skin and it felt as though she were holding her favorite bass guitar. Mary wished she could strum Marlene’s song out of her. Pressing her cheek to the other girl’s back, she closed her eyes and enjoyed the closeness.
It wasn’t long before Marlene stopped. Mary cursed that her flat wasn’t further from the venue. She got off the bike and thanked Marlene again for the ride.
“No problem. Really. I enjoy having passengers, especially pretty girls like yourself.” She signed.
Mary blushed. Was Marlene flirting with her or was it her imagination? Was this finally her chance to make a move? To ask her out?
“Um, would you… Are you free next Saturday?”
“Yeah, got nothing.”
“Then would you like to go on a date? Maybe to a restaurant or something?” Mary bit her lip. What if she said no?
“I would love that.” An expression of utter delight spread across Marlene's face.
Mary couldn’t believe it. The girl of her dreams had just said yes to a date. She kissed her goodbye and ran off.
