The boys jumped as they heard a sound from some bushes at the sidewalk and watched as a zombie trudged out of them. Vance and Robin were quick to take action, unfortunately they had left their guns inside so Vance grabbed his bat and lunged towards the zombie, knocking it onto the floor and began to beat it with it while Robin began to just kick and punch it. Finney froze at the sight, that zombie looked so familiar, two braids, overalls with a skirt, a yellow bow , Finney’s eyes widened and horror and he quickly ran towards Robin and began to pull at him, “Stop! Stop! Stop it!” He screamed as tears began to blur his vision, he felt his arms being grabbed as he was held back by Bruce, Billy had run back inside to get the guns, the two boys continued to beat the zombie on the floor.
Bruce struggled to hold Finney who was screaming for the boys to stop and they wouldn’t listen, “Leave her alone!” Finney screamed, “Leave my sister alone!!” All the boys froze. Vance and Robin snapped their heads towards Finney as he fell to the floor, sobbing. “Please don’t hurt my sister, please.” He begged, his little sister, who had been infected, growling as she lay on the floor. Vance immediately dropped the bat and looked down at the zombie, all the boys felt a sudden guilt as their eyes widened, recognizing the little girl. Robin quickly backed off and ran towards Finney, grabbing him and holding him close, tears in his eyes. “I’m so sorry Finn, I'm so sorry.” Finney sobbed harder as he looked past Robin’s shoulder, he wasn’t able to protect his sister.
Vance, Bruce, Billy, and Griffin all looked at each other before looking over at the now zombie Gwen and looked back at Finney. Bruce sighed and slowly crouched beside Finney, “Finney,” it hurt him to say this, “Finney we can’t let her go you know this.” Finney looked at Bruce, tears streaming down his face, “You need to let her go, I know it hurts but you have to let her go.” Finney just hugged Robin tight and nodded, he didn’t want to watch. Bruce looked at Vance and Billy and motioned them to go finish her off. Both boys hesitantly walked over, Vance with his bat and Billy who had come back with a gun. They both walked over as Gwen was now trying to sit up, Vance raised the bat over her head and hit her down hard on the legs causing her to yell and fall back to the floor.
Robin felt Finney flinch and hug him tighter, he put his hands over the curly haired boys’ ears.
Billy shakily pointed the gun to her head and quickly pulled the trigger, her body going limp.
It was raining hard, Robin and Finney were crying. Billy was hugging Griffin, Bruce just stared into the distance, and Vance couldn’t take his eyes off the body. He had known that girl for years, she was barely 15. His fists clenched as tears welled up in his eyes, he walked away and sat next to Bruce.
Everyone was silent, you could only hear rain falling down hard and the faint sobbing of a heartbroken brother.
