Tomo was waiting for her at the school’s entrance. It was pouring rain and it didn’t look like it would let up soon. Misuzu gathered up her unruly feelings, stuffed them in a box and shut it. Walking up to Tomo, she pulled out her umbrella.
“Did you forget your umbrella again?”
Tomo rubbed her neck and laughed. “Yeah. But I knew you wouldn’t forget.”
Misuzu sighed and handed the umbrella to Tomo. Walking was a pain, especially once Tomo began talking about Junichiro. Hearing the girl you liked brag about her crush on another boy was annoying.
It was her own fault. She made it her mission to help Tomo get together with him. She wanted to see her friend be happy, but she didn’t realize it would hurt so much.
“Stop,” she snapped.
“Huh? What’s wrong?” Tomo stopped walking and looked at Misuzu in concern.
“Can we not talk about him right now?”
“Oh. Uh- okay.” Tomo’s smile dimmed, and the rest of the walk home was silent.
Stupid Misuzu. She shouldn’t have said anything. Tomo would think something was wrong. At Tomo’s home, they said awkward goodbyes. Misuzu kicked herself mentally for the remainder of her journey.
