The scream was so piercing that Levi actually dropped his tea. Fortunately, the mug bounced harmlessly onto the rug, unbroken but spilling tea everywhere. “The fuck?!”
The scream came again even louder, and Levi jumped. Was that his neighbor? Was he being attacked? Levi hurried to the door and threw it open in time to see the young man (named Eren something) bolt out into the hall.
“What is it?! Are you okay? I thought you were being killed!”
Eren pointed a trembling finger toward his kitchen and Levi crept in. There, perched on the kitchen counter, was a tiny fuzzy spider.
Levi and the spider regarded one another somberly then, using a piece of junk mail, Levi scooped it up and released it out the window. It scuttled off happily.
Levi chuckled just as Eren peered cautiously around the doorframe.
“Did you kill it?”
“Nope.”
“Why not?!”
“How would you like someone to kill you just because you were in your kitchen minding your own business?”
“I’m not a spider.”
“No, they’re cuter.”
Eren scowled
“Come on, scaredy cat. I’ll make us some tea while you get over your trauma.”
Eren took one last suspicious look around and followed.
