It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Friendship

Summary:

The story of how Silver and Quincy first met.

Takes place several years before "Here for You", my other BTD6 fic, so Silver, Lar (her brother), and Quincy are kids.

Notes:

I wrote this a while back and I've been meaning to post it ever since I posted "Here for You", so here it is! Just like the tags say, it's not a Christmas fic, I just couldn't figure out what to title it for the life of me and my BTD6 OC is an Ice Monkey, so... yeah lol.

Also, for context, during the time of this fic Silver and Lar's dad is a 2-5-0 Engineer Monkey, their mom is a 2-4-0 Ice Monkey, and Silver is a 1-1-0 Ice Monkey (until later in the fic). Lar and Quincy are regular Dart Monkeys; Quincy hasn't started his archery and Hero training yet because he's just a kid and Lar's crosspath isn't important because (spoilers) he eventually becomes a 2-0-5 Monkey Sub when he's an adult (also he's 2 years older than Silver and Quincy).

Okay, enough lore. Enjoy the fic!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

After moving into their new home in the Monkey Kingdom, Silver, Lar, and their parents took a walk around the main town and got to know their surroundings. They would be living there from now on, after all. The family eventually arrived at a park and decided to sit down on one of the benches for a moment. Suddenly, a kid that looked to be around Silver's age ran up to them from seemingly out of nowhere.

“Hi, I’m Quincy!” he greeted excitedly, his tail whipping about, “I haven’t seen you around before, did you just move here?” Silver’s parents smiled, recognizing the name of the kid; he was obviously the son of the famous archer of the kingdom, Quincy. No one else had that name. Silver's mom lightly nudged her daughter, who was clinging to her nervously.

“Go on,” she said to her gently, “he seems nice.” The younger Ice Monkey let go as Quincy waited patiently for her to speak.

“Hi, I’m Silver and this is my brother, Lar,” she said quietly, “we came here from the Tundra.” Quincy’s eyes lit up even more than they already had.

“Woah, where it’s all snowy and stuff?” he asked, “Awesome!” Silver giggled, slowly becoming more comfortable around him.

“Cool name, by the way, but you know what’s also cool?” he added, “Your eyes!” He got closer to the bench as he stared into Silver’s.. well, silver eyes, the latter blushing slightly. Lar eyed the two cautiously.

“I’ve never seen another monkey with eyes like that before.” Quincy said, his voice calmer now. They all heard footsteps coming towards them as a male voice called out, “Quincy!” Everyone turned to the sound and saw a monkey with a bow and a quiver full of arrows walk over to them; he had to be Quincy Sr.

“Please don’t run off like that, son.” he sighed, “I had to get my bow in case some Bloons ambushed us while we were out, your mother put it away somewhere without telling me.” Quincy Jr. stepped away from the bench and looked away sheepishly, muttering, “Sorry, Dad...” The older Quincy shook his head and finally acknowledged the other monkeys sitting nearby.

“I apologize, I hope he wasn’t bothering you,” he said, “he’s very.. excitable sometimes and he loves meeting other monkeys.” Silver's dad chuckled in response.

“Don’t worry, he wasn’t bothering us, he seems like a nice kid.” he replied, “I’m guessing you’re Quincy Sr.?” His voice had a noticeable hint of knowing sarcasm in it because yes of course he was, everyone knew that. Quincy Sr. laughed at the joke.

“Yes, that would be me.” he confirmed, “It’s nice to meet you both, er..” Silver’s parents gave their names.

“Ah, yes, Mr. [CLASSIFIED], I think I’ve actually heard of your tech work here in the past,” he continued before shifting his attention to Silver and Lar, “I assume these two are your children?” Silver and Lar’s mom was the one to speak up next.

“Yes, this is Silver and this is Lar.” she said as the younger Ice Monkey gave a shy wave while her older brother gave a more confident wave. Suddenly, the younger Quincy interrupted them.

“Dad, Dad, can I show them that really cool place I showed you in the forest over there?” he asked, pointing to a far end of the park. It really didn’t take much to excite him. His dad thought for a moment before he made his decision.

“If their parents are alright with it, then yes, you may.” he replied. Silver and Lar’s parents quickly responded before Quincy Jr. could even ask them.

“Go ahead, you three, just don’t go too far into the forest and be sure to come back before it gets dark.” their mom told them. Before Quincy could do anything else, his father quickly added,

“Do you have your darts with you, son?” Quincy sighed dramatically.

“Yes, Dad.” he replied, showing off the darts inside the satchel that was at his waist. His dad gave him a pat on the head.

"I just wanted to make sure,” he said, “go on, now.” Quincy grabbed Silver’s hand and dragged her off the bench with him, exclaiming,

“Come on, I promise this is really cool!” Silver almost tripped a few times as she ran with him, Lar following closely behind, but she quickly stabilized herself. As the three adults watched them, Silver’s parents made room on the bench for Quincy’s father to sit.

“He’s really something, isn’t he?” he asked thoughtfully.

“It should be over.. here!” Quincy announced as he, Silver, and Lar ended up in a large clearing in the forest.

“Wow...” Silver marveled, her eyes sparkling. The clearing had everything: flowers, large rocks to play on, a creek, and even a giant tree in the middle to climb. It was one of the most beautiful places she had ever seen.

“I know, right?” Quincy said, “I always bring my friends here.. we are friends now, right?” His face fell slightly when he realized Silver and Lar possibly didn’t want to be friends yet since he just met them. However, Silver merely smiled at him and nodded.

“Yeah, I think so.” she reassured, with Lar agreeing, “Besides, my dad is kind of a fan of your dad.” Quincy’s eyes lit up.

“Oh yeah, isn’t he awesome?” he asked, “I want to be like him when I’m older.” They all talked about random things and played in the forest for hours.

“We should probably go back,” Lar said, “Mom wanted us back before it got dark.” Before they could start leaving, they heard rustling in the bushes and a few red and blue Bloons came out. Quincy took out some darts from his satchel and prepared to throw them.

“Don’t worry, I got this.” he stated before throwing the darts. He only managed to hit two of the red Bloons.

“Sorry, my aim kind of sucks.” he said. Lar threw his own darts, hitting the blue Bloons. Silver ran up to the remaining Bloons and clapped, popping them with her ice powers.

“Yes!” she exclaimed, “I’ve never actually popped any Bloons outside of training before.” Quincy and Lar went over to the darts they threw and picked them up before putting them away.

“Okay, now we can go back.” Quincy said. However, more Bloons appeared behind him and this time they were lead.

“Quincy, watch out!” Silver called out. Quincy turned around to look behind him before getting shoved to the ground by one of the Bloons. Silver gasped. She had to do something, but she hadn’t learned Cold Snap yet. Without thinking, she ran up to the Bloons, standing in front of Quincy protectively, and attempted to use her powers to pop and freeze them. To her surprise, it actually worked. She had learned Cold Snap! This gave Quincy enough time to get up and prepare his darts. When the Bloons thawed, he and Lar threw their darts at them, then Silver froze and popped them again, and so on, until they were all gone.

“Thanks, Silver,” Quincy said gratefully, “I hate lead Bloons, that was so cool how you froze them.” Silver turned to him.

“You’re welcome,” she replied, “are you okay?” She noticed some small bruises starting to form on him and that shove seemed rough. Quincy looked at himself and shrugged.

“I’m fine, let’s actually get back to my dad and your parents before more Bloons show up.” he said before he and Lar picked up their darts and they walked into the forest in the direction of the park.

Silver’s parents and Quincy’s dad were talking when they heard Quincy call out to them.

“Dad and Silver’s mom and dad!” he shouted, “Silver did the coolest thing!” He, Lar, and Silver ran up to them and they were slightly alarmed at the bruises on him.

“Quincy, what happened to you?” his father asked him, standing up. Quincy looked at the bruises on him and then back to his dad.

“Well, some Bloons appeared while we were playing and we popped them, but then some lead Bloons appeared!” he told him, “Then one of them pushed me down, but Silver froze and popped them so we could get rid of them.” That’s when Silver’s parents noticed the blue snowflake marking that was originally on Silver's head was gone.

“Silver, you learned Cold Snap?” her mom asked, surprised. Silver shrugged.

“Yeah, apparently.” she said. Her mom stood up and gave her a hug.

“I’m so proud of you,” she told her, “you’re learning your powers so fast, we need to get a Cold Snap headband for you.” Quincy’s father offered to have everyone for dinner since his wife, Quincy’s mother, should’ve been home by now and Silver’s parents accepted. They followed him to his home while the three kids talked amongst themselves. When they got there, they all had dinner and talked.

This would be the start of a beautiful friendship, and maybe, though no one knew it yet...

...something more.

Notes:

I may post more BTD6 stuff in the future, so stay tuned!

Also I don't have last names for these characters, sorry. You'll just have to deal with reading [REDACTED] and stuff sometimes lol.

Please let me know if there are typos in my fics, I just found an embarrassing one in my QuincyXReader crackfic (I miswrote a pronoun hhh). These aren't beta read, after all, and I can't catch everything especially if I write late at night/early in the morning... which I tend to do.
