Work Text:
“With more family members in tow than can be counted, it's said that the girl's comet visits the girl's home planet once every hundred years, its proud white tail glittering in the sky.”
Rosalina pauses, looking up from her book to see all her precious Lumas fast asleep.
It was a peaceful night at the observatory, Rosalina doing her usual bedtime story in the library.
“...The End…” With that, she closes the book softly, looking over to the door to see… ah. She did stay.
Daisy was leaning against the doorway, wearing an orange t-shirt and white shorts. She looks over at Rosalina, smiling softly and then tilting her head, gesturing to Rosalina to follow her.
Rosalina nods and stands up, quickly floating over to the bookshelf and setting the book on it before moving over to Daisy, slowly closing the door so as to not wake the little star children. She then looks up at Daisy, smiling softly.
Daisy: “Wow… you're a natural.”
Rosalina lets off a small chuckle, waving her hand. “Well… when you’ve been taking care of the lumas as long as I have, it seems easy.” She then takes her wand out, quickly twirling it in the air. With a quick puff of smoke, she was now in a simple, silky blue nightgown that draped to her feet.
Daisy: “Right… I sometimes forget the whole ‘you’ve been around a long time’ thing.”
Rosalina: “Trust me… I do sometimes forget as well. Now… anything you would like to do before bed?”
Daisy: “Can we go look at the stars? I know you see them- literally every day but it’s still so cool to see them up close!” Her eyes light up as she bounces on her feet slightly.
Rosalina lets off a slight giggle. “Whatever you wish, dear.”
The two of them move to a little area with a bench on the edge of the station. The bench was wooden with light blue cushions and orange and light blue pillows, in the shape of a flower and a star respectively. Rosalina sits down on one side gently and Daisy joins her on the other side, leaning on Rosalina’s shoulder and sighing gently.
Rosalina lets off a soft smile and moves to wrap an arm around Daisy. She then looks up at the stars. She’s seen them a million times. But with Daisy it was… special.
…heh. Funny how long she’s seen the stars. And planets. And life in general. Daisy was right. She really… has been around a while. And will continue to do so.
…and not age. At all. The others will, but she’ll be stuck like this forever. Staring at the stars for eternity. Even… even after…
Oh god. She’s gonna leave one day. Well- of course she is. She’s mortal. You’re not. Oh god. She’s already lived some of her life with you. Are- are you doing enough? Or are you wasting the limited time she has-
“Uuuuh, Rosie?”
Rosalina snaps out her thoughts, looking to see she was gripping onto Daisy’s arm now. “OH-!” She moves it away, rubbing at her hand. “I… apologize, love. I didn’t realize how tight that was…”
Daisy squints before sitting up, turning to Rosalina and crossing her legs. She then takes Rosalina’s hands in her own. “Alright. Something’s up, Rosie. And don’t say ‘nothing is wrong’, cause I know that’s not true. As your girlfriend it is my responsibility to make sure you’re okay.”
Rosalina pauses, looking down at Daisy’s hands. She sighs. “It’s… I’m having these… nagging thoughts…” She looks up at Daisy.
Daisy tilts her head. “What kind of thoughts?”
“...Daisy I… I’ve been alive longer than I realized. And I will continue to be for as long as the universe exists. But… you won’t.”
“....well, yeah. I’m mortal, silly. I gotta pass eventually.” Daisy chuckles slightly.
“Yes but… that’s what’s… getting to me. I only have so long with you. Are…” Rosalina sighs. “I just don’t want you to have to live with somebody who can’t follow you once you’re gone… I love you with all my might. But I’m… scared. Scared that I’m not doing enough for your lifespan.”
…there was silence for a few moments, making Rosalina’s mind race again.
Oh stars, you said too much. She’s gonna think it’s too silly to think thi-
“...Rosalina…”
Daisy’s hand moves to cup Rosalina’s face, turning her head towards her. On Daisy’s face was a bright and earnest grin. Her eyes seemed to shine in the starlight, making Rosalina’s shine back. “...Rosie… You’ve been the best part of my lifespan.”
“...R-really?” Rosalina’s thumb rubs against the hand she was still holding.
“Of course… look.” Daisy sighs slightly. “I know our time won’t be forever. At least for me. But as long as I’m gonna live, I want to be with you. You’re my forever, Rosalina.”
…Rosalina starts to tear up slightly, moving her hands to rest on Daisy’s waist. “...Daisy…” She chuckles and then sniffles. “...Then I’m gonna be your forever.”
Daisy lets out a giggle and moves to pull Rosalina into a kiss, one arm wrapping around her and one staying on her face while Rosalina’s stayed on her waist.
The kiss was soft and caring. Something just to show that Daisy loved her. And would for as long as her forever shall last.
After a few moments the kiss is released, Rosalina moving to hide her face in the crook of Daisy’s neck. “...I… love you so much, my flower…”
“And I love you too, my starlight.” Daisy plants a soft kiss on Rosalina’s head.
Silence falls between the two again, but this time it was more comfortable. More at peace. Just two lovers enjoying each other’s company in the vast void of space. And yet… it didn’t feel so big as long as they had each other.
After a bit, Daisy lets out a yawn. “Mnmmm… we should probably head to bed, Rosie…”
…all she got was a soft snore in return.
“...Rosie?”
She looks to see… Rosalina passed out in her arms.
Daisy lets out a small laugh before sighing. “Oh, Rosalina…” She moves to scoop the sleeping girl up bridal style, and stands; walking the two to Rosalina’s bedroom.
Once there, Daisy closes the door behind her with her hip before walking over to the bed and setting Rosalina down on it neatly. She moves to the other side and climbs in, pulling Rosalina to her chest and then pulling the blankets over the two. “...I love you, Rosalina… and I always will…” She gives Rosalina a quick kiss on the forehead, making the space princess smile in her sleep, before dozing off.
The stars shone bright as the two slept, soft snores emitting from the couple. A couple that while may not have forever…
Were sure as hell gonna make the most of the time they have.
