summer mornings

Summary:

percy isn't a morning person and you're naturally drawn to waking up early, not that he minds.

Work Text:

the ear-splitting noises of birds chirping as the sun finally rose indicating another day annoyed him and frankly, made him want to sink back into his bed more. he’d wake up from his slumber, groggily sitting up as his heart pounded in his ears, feet dragging on the floor of his apartment as he made his way outside, a smile making it’s way onto his face when he noticed you hunched over in the corner with your computer.

he’d direct his attention to the kitchen, the smell of coffee still fresh and wafting in the air as it flooded his nostrils. He took notice of the small coffee maker that contained fresh caffeine, most likely the thing that was in the small cup you had just behind your computer on the coffee table, bringing it to your lips to sip it from time to time. he admired you silently for a moment, tracing over your features with his tired eyes. from the curve of your face to the way your eyebrows knitted whenever your computer started to lag slightly. How lucky is he?

you’d look away from your computer, catching his gaze as a warm smile appeared on your face. “hey, how’d you sleep?” is what you’d say, beckoning him over to you with your hand. percy would follow immediately, sleepily making his way over to you on the sofa as he plopped down beside you, laying his head in our lap as he curled up on the furniture. He’d exhale slightly when you brought your hand up to rest on his head, fingernails gently tugging at his locks as he eased into your touch. “I slept fine..” He’d say, looking up at you through his eyelashes. “Or I would’ve if it wasn’t for those birds.”

You’d laugh slightly, your face contorting in concern as you brushed a stray hair out of his face. “Did I wake you up?” You’d say, closing your computer as you watched him silently, bracing your head on your palm.

“No,” He’d say, leaning into your touch as he raised his head up from your lap, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “It was about time I woke up, I guess.” He’d add, watching you swell slightly as another laugh slipped past your lips, adjusting your position so that you were criss-cross applesauce on the sofa. You would beckon him to come to you again, but without even having to motion it – a flicker of your eyes to his and he’d already find himself moving towards you, adjusting comfortably to lie down with you. You’d look down at him in admiration, angling your head to press a quick but deep kiss to his lips, turning your head to look outside the window.

Percy would bury his face into your torso, smiling like an idiot when you’d bring your arms up to hold him tightly. The smell of caffeine would envelop him as he buried his nose further into your graphic tee. Then, and only then in that moment would he realize something he was sure he knew since the day you met. His pulse would still for a moment as you threaded your fingers through his hair once more, scrolling through the television for something to watch.

He wasn’t a morning person, not by a long shot. Though, if mornings with you were always going to be like this – maybe he wouldn’t mind waking up a bit earlier every day. He looked up at you once more, stealing a glance at your resting face as you continued to absentmindedly play with his hair.

Yeah, he wouldn’t mind it at all.
