“I-I think I made a mistake.” Legend didn’t explain as he covered his mouth trying to hide the grin. His eyes didn’t look worried, but filled with amusement of whatever he caused and wasn’t willing to tell.
“Did you scam someone from town?” Warriors shot the vet a look before laughing as Legend was quick to turn with a sour look.
“Why is that always your first guess? I’m tired of being stereotyped.” He scoffed, arms crossed. “I’ve done other mildly concerning things.”
Warriors just waved it off, curious more about the prank. “Then what did you do? Am I gonna have to tell the Old Man?”
Legend snorted.
“I pulled a prank.” Was all he said with the largest smile that had the rest of them unnerved.
“Like— fire?”
“Wild, arson isn’t a prank, that damage of property— you didn’t damage property did you? I swear I don’t wanna pay for someone else’s—“ Sky was already mumbling, preparing once again for an empty money pocket.
“Stop thinking I did something illegal! I can have fun!” He glowered.
“Then what did you do?” Four crossed his arms.
Legend giggled. “I dyed Twilight’s hair.” He laughed himself into a fit.
“What color? Like is it funny or—?”
“Blond!” He smiled, and no one saw the appeal like him.
“Seriously? That’s like the lamest prank.” Wind was quick to pull the plug. Having hoped to learn a new way of pranking or at least find amusement in something. But overall this just sounded disappointing.
Legend rolled his eyes ready to tell the Sailor off when he shut his mouth holding back a grin.
“What prank?”
Warriors jumped— when had the Old Man gotten behind him? He was still out in town. Wars wouldn't put it past the Old Man to know when his father-instincts would kick in. That being said he wasn’t gonna take the fall for any pranks.
“Just Legend and…” his voice trailed off when he turned and realized that wasn’t Time.
Twilight stood with a sleepy expression having just woken up. His voice was a little lower mocking Time’s and with his stature he surely looked like the Old Man. The only give away was the marks on their faces and the younger look Twilight had. Other than that it was a cheap shot that this could’ve been Time.
Wind was quick to cover his mouth with Legend knowing instantly how this prank worked, and how this prank was a prank. Together they fought back giggles.
“Holy shit.” Wars breathed.
“What?” Twilight yawned. “I just woke up to ou’s all schemin’.”
“Uh— it’s not that bad actually.” Warriors waved off wanting to know how Twilight didn’t realize there was blond in front of his damn eyes that were usually a lot darker.
That could be played off with his tiredness. He collapsed for a few hours— enough to dye his hair. He also still looked asleep on his feet.
“I doubt that.” He yawned again. “You guys leave me out of it.”
Little too late for that, Wars thought as Twilight brushed back his bangs.
“God, ’m going back to sleep… wake me for lunch.” He waved off tiredly as he crept back to his sleeping bag and was out like a light.
“Should’ve given him a middle part.” Four interjected before any questioning could begin.
Legend had to cover his mouth to keep from busting out laughing.
“Okay.” Warriors took a breath to calm his grin. “That was a good prank. Still I’m not gonna be the one to tell the poor sap about it when he specifically asked to be left out.”
Legend waved that little detail off. “Eh, considering everything, the prank could’ve been way worse if it was Wild’s prank. At least mine didn’t cause a fire. I think he’ll forgive me.”
Wars would have to agree with that even if Wild have them a shifty eyed look.
“So other than confusing them, did you even plan anything with that?”
“Honestly, no. I had some leftover dye and thought ‘what the hell?’” He shrugged tossing a bag of powdered dye. The pink tips that usually sat on his brow were now in fact a dusty blond. “It was easy to apply, and I figured I’d get some fun out of it.”
“Hmm, it’s kinda scary how similar they look.” Four noted peering back to where Twilight went back to sleep.
“They’re relatives, it’s not that shocking.”
“I guess not but relatives look similar. I guarantee all of us figured that was Time when we first saw him.” As if hitting the nail on the head all the heroes shifted to look at the sleeping man.
“Okay it was a little uncanny.” Sky mumbled. “What do you think Time would say about it?”
A grin grew to Legend’s lips. Are working away at a new idea for fun. “How about a bet?”
Curious eyes looked to him.
“Fifty rupees he cries!” Wind grinned, starting them off.
“Really? Cries? Have you met the Old Man?” Legend rolled his eyes at the absurdity of the bet, but whipped out a notebook to take the bets and wagers.
“We’ll not like a bawl! Like a single shedded tear. That or if he hugs Twilight— Twilight cries!” Wind looked smug, but they could honestly see the Rancher crying easier than the Old man.
“That’s like five bets though, just pick on.”
He wasn’t writing out a paragraph of a ‘what if’ it was down to the letter or no bet.
“Fine, then at least one of them cries. Preferably while hugging.” He huffed crossing his arms, leaning over Legend’s shoulder to make sure he got every bit.
“Fine, next?”
Sky was next. “He’d probably just be too shocked to respond.”
“I could see it, but I figured Time would call him son. Give him the ole’ pop and son treatment.” Wars grinned, and Legend marked both their wagers down.
“I'm gonna say he just won’t notice.” Wild called from over his cooking pot.
“Why’d you figure that?”
Wild shrugged. “He’s old. Figured he’d seen weirder than a weird double. That and he already knows Twilight's kin. He probably wouldn’t be surprised.”
“I could see it, he’s just got that vibe that anything could roll off his shoulder, but it’s also Twi. I don’t know, I feel like he’d have some reaction. Probably along the lines of ‘who did it.’” Hyrule snickered pointedly at Legend.
“Har har, what of you Four?”
The smallest thought for a moment, eyes gleaming with light before a careful grin crept to his cheeks. Reaching out for the paper. He wrote down his answer and handed it back.
Legend snorted. “Seriously? I doubt he’d say something like that.”
“We’ll see.” He grinned. The others were left to interpret as Legend collected the money— it was kept with Sky to keep from letting a few jewels go missing.
They eventually forgot about the bet till lunch rolled around and the Old man was soon to come back from his trip into town. No clue what the old man got up to but Wars figured it was a way to get rid of all the kids.
Only when Wars watched him walking back from a distance did he remember the gamble.
“Time's back.” He hissed to Legend who sat up a bit straighter to greet their leader with a grin.
Immediately, Time was suspicious.
“The hell did you do?”
His grin dropped. “Why is that the second time I’ve been asked that?” He grumbled back. With little to convict of, he sat down taking a spot near the cook and within distance of Twilight.
All they had to wait now was for Twilight to wake up and for Time to see him.
Groggily, said hero stood rubbing the sleep from his eyes to lumber to sit at the fire. Time was busy sorting through whatever he’d gotten at town having not realized immediately.
“Lunch ready?” Twilight yawned looking to Wild who jumped suddenly. Still caught off guard someone looking like Time didn’t have as gruff a voice.
“Uh— just another minute.” He waved off.
Time’s gaze flicked up— everyone held a baited breath.
He turned to Twilight, who leaned against his side, and stared.
“What’s wrong?” Twilight caught this odd expression like the others had. He knew something was going on but he was too tired to understand what exactly.
Time quirked a corner of his mouth. “Nothing, just your accent coming out.” Twilight grumbled laying back.
Time moved to the rest who were staring intently for his reaction. “You boys should’ve given him a middle part.”
“Oh come on!” Legend threw out his hands, annoyed. Four jumped to his feet in victory.
“Seriously? That’s what you wrote? How’d you even figure he’d say that?” Hyrule huffed, clearly annoyed he was so close to winning too.
“Because I was right!” He flaunted snagging the money from Sky as the other stared on envious.
“Th’ hell you lot talkin’ bout? Middle part?”
Time chuckled. He patted the younger on the back. “Just a prank, Pup. They went and dyed your hair blonde so we look like twins.”
Twilight grabbed the ends of his bangs and stared hard in surprise.
“Seriously, I don’t know how you didn’t notice.”
“Cuz, I remember saying leave me outta whatever tha’ prank was.” He hissed, eyeing the group. That annoyance didn’t stay for long however when Time pulled him back into his side.
“It’ll be alright. The resemblance just shows now.” He teased the younger of who was too tired to comment or bat away that hand that dragged him close.
“Yeah well this is coming out before we get to the ranch.” He ran a hand through his hair shaking out some of the blond dust making his newly dyed hair just a bit darker.
Warriors raised an eyebrow curiously. “Why’s that? Don’t want Miss Malon confusing the two of you?”
Twilight huffed. “Something like that. Last time we were alone she thought I was Time.” He side eyed the man who was just as confused.
The younger patted his mentor on the back. “Let’s just say I know some of your sex preferences now, and I’d rather die than have Malon ask how I wanted my dick sucked— not if, how.”
Time choked, pushing Twilight to the ground in shame. Twilight chuckled, but was just as much reliving that horrible moment. The embarrassment he and Malon shared was unrivaled. Her face grew as dark as her hair and he paled clutching his clothes tightly.
He ran out the house and spent several hours working away to try and forget. Malon stayed particularly silent during dinner. Both came to an agreement to never speak a word of that day lest they die of embarrassment.
He also promised to never tell Time that story, but he felt the old man deserved some shame in his life. Especially if Twilight was going to be the butt of a joke.
All the while the boys had their own reactions. All at some level of dying of laughter or choking on their own spit to breathe.
“Holy fucking shit!” Legend wheezed, grabbing his side.
Time managed to regain some composure to look the younger in the eye with guilt and tiredness. “I’ll have a talk with Malon.”
Twilight still lay on the ground still tired and very much wanting another nap. “Uh huh, and soundproof your room. I don’t like hearing my grandparents fucking three to four times a night.”
Red creeped up his face again. Time physically couldn’t look at any of the boys.
Twilight was spreading the shit everywhere uncaring to the dirty laundry he was airing.
“Okay.” Time stated simply wanting this conversation about him and Malon done and over.
The older did look up to the Vet who was so red faced he looked ready to pop a blood vessel. “Dyeing hair blond as a prank is now punishable.”
The Vet didn’t even care.
