Adventures: The Second Try

Summary:

I wrote this instead of paying attention in class, since I used google to get my work done. This actually gave me the idea for the name of my much longer work as of creating this. As seen in the tags, this story had no true plot. A lot of random things will happen. And no, I did not plan any of this out. I write as I go, and just let the story write itself at this point. Have fun reading whatever this is going to turn out to be. I will try to keep everything from getting too confusing, and make sure characters don't vanish somewhere and never come back (That happened in my last work and I still don't know where the hell they went. No clue when I plan on bringing them back, I'll have to re-read the first few chapters to see where I even sent them to begin with). Anyway, again, have fun with this random ass story. I will post warnings in the notes before the chapters.

Stay safe <3

Chapter 1

Notes:

WARNING: Possible semi-graphic details of gore and violence, and swearing. Maybe slightly confusing way of wording, and possible mentally unregistered typos.

Chapter Text

She had her eyes locked onto her target. As she stayed quiet, aiming up from a tree branch a few feet off the ground, she steadied herself. "Don't miss.." she silently told herself. Once she found the moment to strike, and let go of the arrow, the string of the bow flinging it far. It hit what she was aiming at, going right through its eye and poking out the other side of its head. "You've done it again, Amira." she smiled to herself as she lowered out of the tree. She walked over to the deer she shot, the thick snow crunching under her boots. She stepped on the neck, pulling the arrow out. She flung off the blood, putting it back in the quiver and crossing her bow over her body, the string cutting across her chest. Being used to the cold, she wore a thin hoodie, jeans, boots and thin gloves. "I should get this back to them...it's the best I could find out here." Amira murmured to herself as she picked up the deer and slung it over her shoulder. Following her footsteps, she went back the way she came from her small cabin home in the middle of nowhere.
.
"Damn Amira, where did you find that? We haven't seen a deer like that in weeks!" the boy said, glancing over the dead deer. "Daerune, trust me. I have my ways. Besides, be lucky I'm such a good shot. If I had missed, that thing would have been left for the wolves." Amira said as she placed down her bow and quiver. Daerune, Dae for short, was the male twin. His sister, Maerune, or Mae, was his female counterpart. They were practically inseparable. Anyone who tried to fight both of them at once stood literally no chance at living, they were just lucky to get mercy. Mae and Dae weren't ruthless, despite the fact that they've been involved with some bad people at one point. Though, they didn't really care what people thought of them. People being scared just meant that nobody was going to bother trying to hurt them or something like that. Yet, here they are. Stuck in a small cabin home in the middle of nowhere within the mountains, surrounded by thick snow and frozen air. They had been stuck here for a few days, not really able to get anywhere due to the massive snowstorm that had happened. Though, now it had passed for the time being.

Maerune was saying something when she abruptly stopped, her gaze snapping to the small window. Amira and Daerune gave her a confused look. "What'cha lookin' at, sis?" Dae asked. After a moment, her eyes shifted back to the two. "Nothing, just thought I felt something. Like we're not here alone, as if someone is watching us. Trying to figure out what we're gonna do next. Probably just my magic being sensitive again. You know how it is." she sighed. You see, Maerune, unlike her brother, was slightly more sensitive to the magic of others. She can tell if someone is around within a 15 meter radius, while Daerune can only do 10. Though, to balance that out, Daerune was much better in melee combat, like weapons or hand-to-hand. Daerune was a physical fighter, Maerune was a magic user. As practically identical twins, they had to cancel each other out in some way. "Is someone nearby?" Amira questioned. Maerune shook her head. "I don't think so. What I felt didn't stay long, and I doubt anyone would be all the way out here because of the snowstorm. Speaking of which, we should probably leave as soon as we can so that we don't get caught in another one. You never know, it could happen again." she explained, standing up from her chair. Zipping up her jacket, she opened the door. "I'll be waiting outside." And with that, she stepped out onto the little front porch, closing the door behind her. She shoved her hands in her pockets. She was dressed for warmer weather, but she didn't mind the cold. She took a step off the porch, stepping onto the crisp, thick blanket of snow. Being a magic user for most of her life, she somehow figure out a way to be able to be light enough to stand on things such as snow or mud and not sink in, despite being the weight of an average 17 year old human girl.

She walked a little, her boots quietly clicking against the frozen snow. That's when she stopped dead in her tracks. Something wasn't right. It was too quiet. Mae listened, and heard a branch break. Taking her hands out of her pockets and bringing one up to lightly grip her amulet, she was ready for a fight. She then heard footsteps, the sound of snow crunching down. She turned towards where the sound was coming from when it got a bit too close to her, and was almost touching noses with a girl. She wore clothes obviously made for warm weather, tank-top and jeans with sneakers. She had a jacket on, but it wasn't zipped up at all, and it was slightly slid off one shoulder. Her hands were clasped behind her back as she stared Maerune in the face with her deep purple eyes. She had short black hair, and had large fox ears. Ever so slowly, she had a really fluffy, large black fox tail swaying behind her. Maerune just stood there, staring at how pretty this girl was. The girl just smiled at her. "Um...can I help you..?" Maerune finally spouted out. The girl didn't speak, only held out her hand to Maerune, as if a gesture to take it. "I can't..I have to wait for my brother and my friend. They're inside. We were planning to leave this place as soon as possible so that we don't get caught in another snowstorm." she said. The girl nodded, putting her hand behind her back again, as if saying that she would wait with her. Maerune gave her a faint smile. The girl didn't look much older than Mae, maybe 2 years older. Making the girl 19. After a moment, the door opened and out stepped Daerune and Amira. "Oh, who's this?" Dae asked, gesturing to the girl. Maerune shrugged as the girl waved at them. The two walked over to Mae and the girl, who held out her hand to Mae again. "Are you sure?" Mae asked, a little hesitant. The girl nodded. Mae took a deep breath, and gently took the girl's hand. The girl started walking, leading Maerune somewhere. Confused, Amira and Daerune followed.
.
After a little while of walking, the girl let go. The trio looked around, they were out of the mountain top and at the entrance of some town. "Welcome." the girl said with a smile. Her voice sounded that of a 23 year old woman, but it was smooth and calming nonetheless. "Wait...who even are you?" Amira asked the girl. "My name is Diana, and this is Burnrose. I'm a shadow fox. I live here with my almost identical twin brother Dexter. We're know as the Dex & Dia Duo. We're here on a small job break with our boss. A reaper named Soulis Takanishi." she explained. The trio glanced at one another before turning their gaze back to the girl. "Well...thanks for leading us here, I guess..." Daerune mumbled. The girl just smiled before walking away and disappearing into the town crowd. "I say we split up, scope the place out." Mae said. The other two agreed, and then they all went their separate ways.
