Work Text:
Lunafreya was feeling curious when she walked towards the garden in the Citadel. Noctis had sent her a note saying he wanted to show her something and nothing else. She was curious of what it was about because he couldn’t have been planning a proposal since they were already engaged, right? Unless, of course, he wasn’t satisfied with how he had asked her hand in marriage and wanted to redo it. Lunafreya smiled. Noctis was being silly if that was the case because she had felt special enough and didn’t need another proposal.
In the end Lunafreya found out that she would be completely wrong about that because when she finally found the garden, she saw Noctis standing there at the entrance looking a little bit nervous. He had probably ran his hand through his hair multiple times because it looked messier than it had been earlier that morning. He also seemed to be deep in his thoughts when Lunafreya approached him because he didn’t notice her until she cleared her throat to announce her arrival. Noctis got startled at first and then he relaxed.
“I want to show you something, Luna”, Noctis then said and smiled.
“What is it?” Lunafreya asked him curiously.
“It’s a surprise.”
“Oh, it is?”
“You don’t like surprises?” he asked.
“No, it’s not that. I just rarely get surprised by anyone”, Lunafreya confessed. It was true; in the past very few people had thought of surprising her. They seemed to think that she either didn’t care about such things or they just told her beforehand. Lunafreya had never liked that much. She also wanted to be surprised from time to time. Positively, of course. Not with negative things.
“Well then”, Noctis began, “I shall make sure to surprise you with more things in the future.”
“So you’re not going to tell me any details?” Lunafreya teased him.
“That’s not going to work on me”, he chuckled. “I will show you instead.”
It made Lunafreya feel even more curious than she already was as he offered his arm to her and then guided her into the garden after she gave him a nod of approval.
What secrets could this place possibly be hiding?
She had visited the garden multiple times in the past and had thought she knew it but apparently she did not because soon after they walked in, they turned into an unfamiliar alleyway that was located between the entrance and the gateway to the right wing side of the garden. They walked through a white wooden door that had been pretty well hidden into the bushes.
Alleyway was covered in green bushes and lights that had been tied to the branches. Lunafreya was sure that she had never seen it before during her adventures in the garden. It was a very beautiful little path though, she had to admit. It looked like something she had seen in movies that she had watched whenever she had a moment of free time–which was really, really rare.
“I wanted to show you this, Luna”, Noctis said as they turned around the corner and Lunafreya saw bushes after bushes of roses. They didn’t look like normal roses though as they were all rose gold colored and they shone beautifully in the sunlight.
“These are so beautiful, Noctis”, Lunafreya whispered as she walked closer to look at the flowers.
“I’m glad you like them”, Noctis said. “This garden has been here for decades and it is a tradition to have unique flowers grown in this part of the garden. It’s called the Queen’s Private Garden”, he explained.
“Why did you choose these colors?” Lunafreya asked him curiously.
“They reminded me of you, of course.”
“Did you miss me?” Lunafreya teased the young prince.
Noctis’ cheeks turned slightly pink. “Maybe a little bit…” he admitted.
Lunafreya smiled. “I missed you too. I always do when I can’t be with you. It is great that we can finally be together like this.”
“Agreed”, he softly said as he kneeled down and cut one of the flowers. He stood up and gave it to Lunafreya who took it and leant in to give him a kiss on the cheek.
“Thank you, Noct”, she said using the nickname that his friends always used and she smelt the rose. It smelt wonderful, like something she’d expect from Lucis.
“I want a bouquet of these in my quarters”, she added.
“Consider it done, Luna”, he promised.
“And Noct?”
“Yes?”
“This is my favorite surprise so far.”
“I’m pleased to hear that”, Noctis said and kissed the back of her hand.
