A long haired she pokes her head out of the medicine cave. The camp was quiet…suspiciously quiet. But there wasn’t time for that now. The she-cat hurries out of the den, up the slope, and out of camp as fast as her legs would her and her extra weight. She rushes through the forest so fast she almost drops her herbs. She slows as she approaches a familiar figure.
The brown and white tom stared down at her for a moment. “...It’s been a while, PebbleSpeck”
The she-cat– PebbleSpeck – growled and continued on. “I don’t have time for you today, I have to–” She was cut off by a sharp kick in her belly.
The tom rushed up to her. “Look I know we’ve had our differences but…who else do you have? Medicine cats aren’t supposed to have kits or mates. Every other cat in your clan will reject you” All he got was a growl in response “PebbleSpeck come to GourgeClan with me. They’ll accept you there and you can retire from your medicine duties. We can raise our kits together without judgment.”
PebbleSpeck shook her head. “No, GrimFeather, No. I can’t leave my clan. I haven’t had an apprentice, they need me.” Her legs began to wobble. “There are still sick cats, sick cats I have in my care. I can’t leave…I can’t…”
“Even if you don’t come with me to Gorge Clan,” GrimFeather brushed against her side. “Let me help you now. Based on how big your belly is, you are going to need it.” They didn’t speak but PebbleSpeck let him lead her away.
