might as well be drunk in love

Summary:

“Well, after your second tequila sunrise, you insisted on me singing ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’ because you said you loved the way my voice made your body feel.”

Work Text:

Lorraine woke up with a groan. Her head was spinning and she could barely make out where she was. Giving her eyes time to adjust, she came to recognize the dimly lit room as her own. Lorraine slowly sat up and looked to the right to find Ed’s side of the bed empty. It was unusual for him to get up before her, but knew he couldn’t be far.

“Ed?” She heard movement coming from their adjoined bathroom and saw her husband peak his head around the door frame.

“Morning hon, how are you feeling?”

“Like I’ve been hit by a bus.” Ed came to sit down on the edge of the bed with a glass of water and aspirin in hand.

“This should help a bit with the aches.” Lorraine popped the small pill into her mouth and took a sip of water.

“Thank you, hon,” she said giving his arm a loving squeeze. “Do I even want to know what happened last night?”

“What’s the last thing you remember?” Ed asked, taking her glass and placing it on the night table.

“I remember you bringing me my second tequila sunrise and then everything got a bit hazy.”

“Well, after your second tequila sunrise, you insisted on me singing ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’ because you said you loved the way my voice made your body feel.” Lorraine blushed and covered her face with her hands.

“Anything else?” She didn’t know if she wanted to remember the embarrassing moments, but knew Ed would never hold it against her.

“You got a bit handsy, Mrs. Warren.” Lorraine removed her hands and looked at him with wide eyes. “After I was done playing, you climbed into my lap and made the most beautiful mewls I’ve ever heard.”

“I’m mortified,” Lorraine groaned, leaning her head against the wall.

“Hey, don’t do that to yourself.” Intertwining their fingers, he brought her hand to his lips and pressed a delicate kiss to her knuckles. “I promise it wasn’t as bad as you think. It was actually pretty adorable.”

Lorraine pouted not believing a word her husband said. “You’re just saying that because you got the good end of it.”

“Maybe,” Ed smirked, “now come here.” Pulling her against his chest, Ed wrapped his arm around Lorraine and pressed a kiss to her head. To further ease her worries, he used his thumb to draw soothing circles against her face.

“You’re lucky I don’t have the energy to argue with you,” Lorraine hummed, closing her eyes. She found solace from the warmth radiating off her husband’s body making it hard not to fall asleep. Ed noticed and lightly pinched Lorraine’s cheek making her giggle.

“Don’t go falling asleep on me yet. You slept for a good eight hours and I want at least thirty minutes with you before I start missing you again.”

“That’s asking for a lot Mr. Warren, but I suppose I can make the exception,” Lorraine said, looking up at Ed who took the chance to steal a kiss.

After a few moments of comfortable silence, Ed remembered something that was sure to cheer Lorraine up. “Hon, do you remember what happened at Martha Garren’s Christmas party last year?” He felt her body shake and was worried he had said something wrong, but quickly realized Lorraine was holding back a laugh.

“Remember? Hon, how could I forget? You had one too many drinks, which I advised against, and kept trying to drag me under every mistletoe in sight.”

“I think that beats what you did last night by a landslide. I made a fool of myself in front of the entire community while I got a private show all to myself.” Lorraine continued to laugh, filling Ed’s heart with enough love to power the world. When Lorraine finally calmed down, she looked up at Ed with adoring eyes.

“You always know the right thing to say.”

“I’d recount every embarrassing thing I’ve done if it makes you happy.”

“Oh really?” He instantly regretted that remark.

“That wasn’t an invitation, hon,” Ed said, sending a warning glance her way.

“Remember when you spilled your milkshake on yourself on our first date?”

“We really don’t have to take this stroll down memory lane.”

“Or the time you ripped your pants leaning down to kiss me.”

“Lorraine…” Ed warned, readying his hands for the attack.

“What about-AH!” Lorraine was interrupted by Ed’s fingers tickling her sides. In between fits of giggles, Lorraine tried to finish her story. “The-the time you-Ed stop!“

“I will once you do,” he said, hoping his wife accepts his terms.

“The time you-you fell while we were ice skating.” Lorraine could barely contain her laughter at this point.

“I was trying to impress you and misstepped,” Ed explained, rolling his eyes. When he failed to stop his hands, Lorraine finally called a truce.

“Are you done?” “Yes, yes, I’m done.” Ed raised an eyebrow and moved his arms back to their previous position. Lorraine breathed a sigh of relief and lightly smacked her husband’s chest. “Ow, what was that for?”

“For being a pain. And this,” Lorraine pecked his cheek, “is for cheering me up. My headache’s practically gone.”

“If that’s the case, how about we go downstairs and I’ll make us some breakfast.”

“That sounds wonderful, hon. Could we have-“

“Chocolate chip waffles?” Lorraine didn’t think she could love Ed more than she already did, but he continued to prove her wrong. “Anything for my best girl. Now,” Ed got up from their bed and picked up his squealing wife in one fell swoop, “let’s go get you some food."
