Chapter Text
This was a time where you’d either fight or run.
Right now, (y/n) had to think if she wanted to run or take off.
There was a crash then a loud gunshot echoed throughout the house. When (y/n) heard it she saw through the window a man, he had some blood splattered on him.
“Sammy! We got ‘im!” The man called.
(y/n) decided she would run, she quickly left through the back door and ran into the forest. She made sure not to make a sound, not stepping in mud or anything that could be traced to her. A hand near the knife in its “holster” by her hip in case anything were to surprise her and attack.
When she made it to a long stretch of road she found a truck then went into the trunk of it and hid under the tarp. Some people were heard talking then the car moved from the weight of the two and the car started. It stopped in town, they went somewhere and after a few minutes (y/n) popped her head out.
Once she saw nobody was there or coming she got out. With a small sigh leaving her she buttoned her jacket back up so the hunting knife was hidden and walked to the motel she’d been staying at.
“Hey- kid!” The clerk called to her.
(y/n) turned to them. “Yeah?”
“Your mom or dad finally here? I told you if nobody picked you up or came then I’d call the police. You understand that right?” If (y/n) didn’t know any better then the clerk was being nice but she did know better, he just didn’t want extra work.
Coming up with a lie quickly (y/n) nodded. “I sure do, my father’s outside waiting for me. He decided we’d just go home since he just wants to go home now.”
“Mhm.”
(y/n) resumed walking, she went to her room and grabbed her duffle bag then left. Gave the key back to the clerk then gave a tip so he wouldn’t talk to anyone about it and she left.
The more she walked outside the more she started to remember why she had been worried about having to walk around, it was snowing. It wasn’t a snowstorm or anything bad but it was snowing and that meant a lot of things.
Everything would probably be a little more expensive and with inflation it wouldn’t be good.
This made her sigh again, the warm puff of air showing in the cold and it made her chuckle to herself even though she was freezing her toes off.
“Get the salt out.” She mumbled to herself then it was replaced with a stoned face when she saw people.
Eventually she got to a bus stop, she kept a hat on so the cameras wouldn’t catch her face and she paid then got in a seat. Once she sat down she let out a sigh of relief, not a sigh of annoyance or sadness but relief.
Something she didn’t have often but that reminded her of something else she didn’t have often.
Quickly she opened her duffle bag and made a small smile seeing she still had some lollipops. Although she was a 15 year old girl, who didn’t like lollipops?
Everyone deserves a lollipop.
After popping a lollipop in her mouth she looked out the window calmly, watching as the snow fell making the town look almost white.
A part of her felt proud of what she was, another part of her felt guilty.
Like most people, she had people she failed and people she saved. There’s not a lot of people she’s failed but if she’s failed them then she knows in her heart that she’s failed more.
Eventually she began to fall asleep, she tried her best not to but only having 4 hours of sleep within the span of two days had her exhausted, especially when she’d been chasing monsters, researching, and hiding.
The dreams she had were the same as the others.
Nothing, nothing but darkness. It never felt like true sleep to her but it got her rested enough.. Sometimes.
She was awoken by the bus stopping, she grabbed her duffle bag and got out not even looking where she was.
“Thanks.” She mumbled to the driver.
They nodded then drove off when people had gotten off.
As soon as she was off she started walking, the town was small and cozy. It was surprisingly a very nice town, she kept her guard up though.
With a stoney face and her blunt attitude she made sure people kept away or she ignored them. The last thing she was looking for was trouble.
Again, (y/n) found a motel and made up a lie so she could stay there after she paid. First night there she wrote down the lie in a journal so she wouldn’t forget and she stayed up the whole night, researching and standing guard in case anyone found her.
The next day she went to a diner, she read a few newspapers with a bored expression. It was a nice diner, when she looked up to see if anyone was watching or following her she saw that the diner was very much a family type of thing.
There were some families eating dinner together, some with a bunch of little kids that were jumping around or just babbling about something then there were the others with older kids like her or older that talked with their family and laughed about something. It caused a small smile on her lips then she quickly looked back down, she had to stay focused.
Then a frown made its way on her face, a family.
Something she had but was so far out of reach, it was hard to tell if she had any power to control anything in her life. The one thing that almost everyone had, dead or alive and she had it too but it was…
Complicated.
A waiter came and asked (y/n) for her order, she answered then they left to go get it. She had a small breakfast with a coffee that she wasn’t sure if she liked and a muffin then she left a 20 dollar bill and left.
Later that evening (y/n) fell asleep on the bed in the motel room she currently paid for, she woke up when she heard a bump and sat underneath the desk holding her knife.
Soon she fell asleep again, the next time she woke up it was around 2 pm. Thinking about whether wanting to go outside or research monsters, she decided monsters would be more productive so she grabbed her duffle bag and took out her very cheap and old computer.
Honestly, she had no idea how the thing still worked but it did its job and that’s all that mattered. Once she had finished reading a 45 page PDF about “Mythical Creatures” she closed the computer.
She read it because some of the monsters were real but others were just lies, she wrote in her journal then closed that and put it in her duffle bag along with the computer. Stretching her back she sighed and her bones cracked or popped.
Then she stood, sadly she knew it was time to do the thing she dreaded and loved at the same time. It was time to work out.
Working out was fun but also tiring, it left her sweaty and she hated having to wash her clothes constantly. If she worked out though, she would get jacked and it would help with hunting plus, she thought being a little muscular would help with getting a partner if she ever got one.
It was mostly for the safety of herself and others though, she had to stay strong or else someone could get hurt because of her stupid decisions.
So, she stretched some more before starting to do some squats and sit-ups. She wasn’t the strongest, she knew that but she could get stronger and for now she can learn how to use her weakness against others.
After an hour she got tired, she lied on the floor then she stood quickly when she heard her disposable phone ring. (y/n) picked it up then checked the contact.
Ash.
“Hello?”
“Hey, kid, how have you been?”
“Fine, you're still trying to track me down?”
“What?” He asked as if he didn’t know. “What are you even talking about? Paranoid aren’t you?”
A small sigh left her lips and she looked around. “Soon to be a hunter, better sooner than later. I’ve got to go, talk to you later.”
“Just stay outta trouble.”
“I always do.” (y/n) hung up.
She put her jacket on and went outside for a walk, she went to a different diner this time. Its walls are blue and a stripe of white on them, with red stools and seats.
(y/n) sat on a stool, she got a burger with bacon on it because how else would she get it?
As she ate she glanced around, not many people were out since it was getting darker outside. A trucker, a police officer that was clearly off duty, the waitress, and a woman in the back typing away on her computer.
Sipping on her root beer she looked out the window, there weren’t a lot of cars outside. A few trees were littered around but there weren’t many since this place was more open, probably more farms around here than anything.
A hunt might be around.
Once she finished her food she gave a thank you, paid with a tip then left the diner silently with a more relaxed than stone faced look. But as she continued to walk, (y/n) noticed something.
A shadow, in her peripheral vision and she did her best to make sure if didn’t see her glance as she kept walking with a more opened chest and walked straighter to make herself seem bigger. She knew it wouldn’t do anything but it helped calm her down, helped make her think she was more confident than she knew she was.
Then she saw the shadow again, she made sure to just keep walking and not go to the motel since they would follow her inside.
(y/n) tried to think of anyone or anything that could’ve found her as she walked, she had her knife and a small packet of salt in her pocket. A little dagger in her boots, a needle hidden in the seams of her sweater, and the pin holding up her bangs.
Not very harmful weapons but she knew how to do damage, where it hurt most was where she’d have to strike.
This was gonna be a long fucking night.
When she finally decided to walk in an alleyway to fight or run the person walked away.
They weren’t following her.
It made her sigh in relief, she’d rather not be kidnapped tonight.. Or ever.
Sometimes she wondered if everyone felt like that? Did anyone else worry about their safety like her?
She was very much afraid, not of dying. Getting hurt would.. Well it’d hurt and she didn’t want to get hurt but that wasn’t something she truly feared.
(y/n) knew she’d let herself get hurt, maybe even die for those who she loved.
Maybe it had to do with her family or her own issues.
In her mind, she knew she’d probably survive but would she get out?
Would she be able to live with herself, what she did to survive?
Now that, that made her think. Something in (y/n) already had it though, that hate.
Because it would always be there, no matter what. Without hate there is no love and without love there is no hate.
Even with all that hate, worry, and paranoia in her.. (y/n) was still a good person. She worried what would happen to her, bad things always happen to good people and she’s too loyal to leave.
(y/n) was knocked out of her thoughts when she saw a flashing light, a hand grabbed her out of the car’s way and the man grumbled about something.
She stood there confused for a few seconds.
“Hey, are you alright?”
“Y-yeah, sorry.”
The man stared down at her then sighed. “You’ve got to be more careful next time, do you understand?”
(y/n) nodded and the man nodded back, he stared at her for a moment then they both turned away from each other after a curt bye.
The man’s trench coat was very clean..
With a small shrug (y/n) kept walking, after making sure she wasn’t being followed she went back to the motel.
