Work Text:
It had been a big party for a couple of fourth years, though the party had calmed down about an hour ago and the only people that were still in the Gryffindor common room were the Marauders, Lily Evans, Marlene, Mary, and Dorcas Meadowes.
They had all sat down on the rug in front of the common room fireplace, James had brought out a small glass potion and placed it in front of them.
“Come on Moony, we’re playing truth or dare with veritaserum!” James told him. Veritaserum, that was the potion on the rug .
Everyone knew about his “furry little issue”, even all of the girls, so he didn’t exactly have an excuse to get out of the game anymore.
The reason he wanted to get out of the game was because of the many secrets he held, sure, some of them were others, but most of them and the worst ones were his own.
“We all know about your furry little issue, come on” Mary whined, “we want to play”
“Why don’t you play without me?”
“Why? Do you have something to hide?” Sirius joked.
That was it, now he had to play. If he didn’t he knew what would happen anyways, the other marauders would go out of their ways to find out on their own if he didn’t.
“Fine” He stood up from the couch and put away the book he was holding. He would much rather read his poetry than play a high school gossip game.
He sat down in between Lily and Sirius -the closest seat to the exit to the common room.
James poured in a bit of veritaserum in the cup he was holding, he drank it.
“Ask me a question”
“What colour is the sky?”
James tried hard to resist, but ended up responding with “blue”. Now that everyone knew that it worked they all poured it into their own respective cups and drank it.
“I’ll start” Remus said, that way he wouldn’t be picked so early on, at least.
“Lily” He turned around to face the girl, “truth or dare?”
She thought for a while, “Dare”
“Kiss James”
She went bright red, James too. Despite that she crawled across the rug and stopped in front of James.
“You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to Lily” He said, as caring as he was.
“It’s okay” she responded, before taking a hold of his cheek and kissing him deeply for a couple of seconds. The others cheered as they finally parted, she crawled back and sat down next to Remus again. She was flushed and her entire face was bright red, clearly her views of James had changed over the years.
“Peter, truth or dare?” Lily asked once she had sat down comfortably.
“Truth”
“Do you like someone?”
Peter blushed a bit, “I don’t like anyone like that, never have, I don’t think I will either”
“Really? So you don’t look at someone romantically?”
“I can’t imagine doing that. Sure, I can look at someone and tell you they’re objectively handsome, but I can’t understand being attracted to someone” He shrugged.
“Oh” She nodded, “I guess I can understand that”
Peter turned towards Remus, shit.
“Truth or dare Moonsie” He said with a smile.
Remus heart started beating fast, “Dare” He responded quickly.
Peter thought for a while, “Take a shot”
easy enough
James poured up a shot, it was bigger than your regular shot, probably to make it more exciting.
Remus took the shot and drank it quickly, not thinking too much about it. That familiar burn burned his throat for a second, before disappearing almost immediately. He looked around the room to see surprised looks staring back at him. For all they knew he hadn’t drank anything before, much less a giant shot.
“Ouch?” he tried, not really helping at all.
“REMUS HELLO??” Sirius almost screamed, wide-eyed and surprised that their calm and sensed friend -the responsible one out of them- took a shot like it was nothing.
“When did you even get the chance to get that much practice” Marlene asked
“When I was with my-” He covered his mouth and shook his head furiously, “Stop asking questions!” he yelled. He sat back down on the rug, everyone still being a bit surprised.
“Truth or dare Dorcas?” he said, trying to get everyone's ey es off of himself.
“Truth” she responded.
“Who was your first kiss?”
“You”
“Oh, alright” He shrugged it off, everyone looked up again at Remus, Remus looked back at them, a bit confused.
“What? We were both fourteen, she hadn’t had her first kiss yet and she just wanted to practice!” He defended himself.
Everyone looked at him in shock, “Remus, how much of you do we actually know?” Sirius said in a joking tone, though he wasn’t really lying.
Remus mumbled something in response, not really wanting it to be coherent for the others.
Dorcas eventually turned towards James, “Truth or dare?”
“Dare sounds fun, but I’ll pick truth” James answered
“I’m actually quite curious now, who was your first kiss?”
“Remus” He shrugged,
Everyone looked up at Remus -yet again- in shock,
“Oh come off it!” James said “I just wanted to know how it was kissing someone, and Remus just happened to be there” he said, “You were a good kisser for being twelve Remus, that was actually kinda worrying” He joked.
“Who here hasn’t kissed Remus?” Lily asked, confused.
Only Marlene and Lily raised their hands.
“REMUS YOU’VE KISSED FIVE OUT OF US” Lily screamed, shocked, Remus went red.
“I just happened to be there I don't know” Remus looked down at the rug.
“Now I understand why you’re called the Casanova of Gryffindor tower” Mary half joked
“I AM CALLED WHAT” Remus snapped his head up, “I am not called the casanova of Gryffindor tower you are lying”
“You didn’t know that?? Even some of the Slytherins call you that” Peter said. Remus went even redder, he could imagine who those people were.
“Continue the game” Remus mumbled, most probably red as a cherry.
“Truth or dare Remus” James said. Everyone was now intrigued by Remus’ secrets, and he should’ve expected the interrogation and being the center of attention in the game from that point on.
He knew that there wasn’t much to hide now, so he decided to take the -for him- bold choice.
“Truth”
“What’s your body count?” James grinned
“What’s a body count?”
“How many people you’ve slept with”
“Nine or ten-” He slapped his hand on his mouth, trying to make himself shut up.
“TEN?? Jesus Christ Remus” James yelled, chuckling to himself. Everyone looked up in surprise again, just when they thought they couldn't be more surprised by Remus he kept giving.
“I AM NOT PLAYING THIS GAME ANYMORE” He yelled out, embarrassed out of this world. He stood up, grabbed his book, and walked hurriedly out of the common room and into their dormitory.
Everyone sat back in awkward silence, staring at each other trying to process all of the information dumped on them that quickly.
“That explains why he didn’t want to play the game, holy hell” James chuckled.
