Work Text:
Everything was new, the hotel was destroyed and rebuilt stronger than before, Vaggie didn’t have to hide her past anymore, she had wings, Lucifer had his own place in the hotel, Adam was dead, Sir Pentious was dead, Dazzle was dead…
Charlie had assured her that everything will work out, that change can be good. Vaggie had her doubts but how can she not feel better after looking at her girlfriends soft smile and feeling her comforting arms around her? And it was true, people stressed less after fighting the angels, everything was calm, people were actually getting sleep.
But while she was the one being comforted she noticed her girlfriend was acting a bit different, she was clearly more on edge than she was before. She was always alert, jumpier than usual, and often was in her demon form when nothing was even going on.
One thing Vaggie had come accustomed to was Charlie's tail, even if she wasn’t in her demon form she still had it out. Not that Vaggie minded, but she almost always found herself entangled in the extra appendage when she was around her. She made a mental note to ask her about it sometime.
Vaggie finished the paperwork for the hotel before walking out of her and Charlie’s shared room and took the elevator to the main lobby where everyone was normally hanging out. Charlie was behind the front desk, she looked like she was sorting something, Angel was having a conversation with Husk at the bar, and Alasor, Lucifer, and Niffty were apparently elsewhere. She really hoped Alastor and Lucifer were not getting into anymore ‘dad battles’ as Angel called it.
She walked over to the front desk where she heard Charlie rummaging around underneath.
“Hun? You okay?” Vaggie asked, not knowing quite what her girlfriend was doing.
“Huh?” Charlie poked her head up from behind the counter, her suit jacket was off and she was just wearing her white dress shirt, “Oh! Yeah, I was just making sure everything is ready incase any more sinners come in!” Charlie's tail swished happily behind her as she spoke in her normal enthusiastic tone.
Vaggie smiled, she was glad that her girlfriend was in a good mood. Charlie continued shuffling under the desk for a moment.
“Y’know, after this I might want to check up on my dad and Al, those two have been driving me insane this week! They’re always fighting.” Charlie pouted and Vaggie found it adorable.
Vaggie giggled, “Those two are going to tear this hotel apart before the angels do.”
Charlie sighed before she came out from behind the desk and stood in front of Vaggie. Vaggie frowned, innerly chastising herself for bringing up the angels.
Charlie spoke, “Other than that, this week has been pretty good though… but I'm scared Vaggie. I don’t like sitting here waiting for heaven to come down and attack us again, we have no idea what they’re planning.” Charlie looked away.
Vaggies eyes soften “We beat them once, we can beat them again,” she smiles, cupping her girlfriend's cheek and turning her head to look at her “Plus, we have your dad here now, he wouldn’t let anything happen to us or the hotel.”
Charlie gives her a small smile, “I guess you’re right.” Charlie took the hand that was cupping her cheek and intertwined its fingers with her own, he tail wrapping around Vaggies leg.
“Well, I guess we should go check on your dad and make sure he hasn’t killed Alastor yet.” Vaggie laughed softly along with her girlfriend.
Vaggie was about to go find Lucifer with Charlie when she noticed the tail wrapped around her leg.
“Uh, sorry,” Charlie pulled her tail off Vaggies leg “I didn’t mean to…” she trailed off.
Vaggie looked at her girlfriend quizzically “you’ve been doing that a lot, are you okay?” Vaggie being the ever protective girlfriend she is of course wants to make sure Charlie is alright.
Charlie blushed “I’ve really been doing it that much?” she put her face in her hands to hide her flush.
Vaggie giggled, taking her girlfriend's hands off her face and holding them in her own “Don’t worry, I think it’s cute. I was just curious.”
“Well I guess I've been a little,” Charlie paused, looking for the right word “Protective. It’s just that, after the battle I've been worried about losing anyone else, I just… want to keep you close.”
Vaggie could have teared up at the confession, she pulled Charlie into a hug. Charlie and Vaggie both closed their eyes, cherishing the comforting contant. “I'm sorry.” was all Vaggie could think of saying, a pathetic attempt to sooth her girlfriend.
Charlie shut her eyes tight, trying to prevent the welled up tears from falling. “It’s not your fault, it’s Adams, and Lutes, and the rest of heaven.”
Charlie wrapped her tail around her girlfriend's waist, pulling her closer. They stayed like that for heaven knows how long, Husk and Angel have both long since left the bar and it looked like it was getting close to the point where the two girls would have to go upstairs and sleep.
Charlie pulled back slightly, resting her forehead against Vaggies, “I love you.”
“I love you too, hun.” It was hard to tell who leaned in first but their lips connected in a passionate but soft kiss. Vaggie could probably spend hours detailing it, the kissed they shared conveyed more feelings than any words could, it was like a ray of sun shining from behind dark clouds, it was like sitting by a fire on a cold day, it was like the rainbow after a storm, it was like-
CRASH
The two girls jumped, their kiss ending and their moment interrupted. Vaggie wanted to scream.
“I TOLD YOU TO STOP FUCKING WITH MY INTERIORS!” Lucifer yelled.
“I'm fixing them, these repugnant changes are horrendous to look at!” Alastor argued back.
The two girls sighed, their moment shared long gone.
