Work Text:
Nabu walked into his apartment, furrowing his eyebrows as he fumbled for the light switch, “Why’s it so dark..” he mumbled to himself in confusion.
Working as a teacher proved to be a difficult task. Not one Nabu wasn’t able to fulfill but it took a toll on him; mentally and physically. All he desired was to rush to his bedroom and sink into his bed, melting into the comfortable furniture to become one. However, if he didn’t find that fucking light switch, his dreams would never come true.
He grunted and began to slam the wall in protest before finally hitting that damned light switch, letting out a sigh of relief as light poured into the room. His tranquility only lasted for a moment before he was grabbed from behind, and thrown against a wall. A shout remained stuck in Nabu’s throat and he struggled to break free. Perfect. This was just what he wanted.
He slid out of the perpetrator's arms and kicked them away, lifting his fists up as he prepared himself to fight. It was only until he heard the laughter of a familiar man—a sound that brought him immeasurable pleasure— that his shoulders dropped.
“You should’ve seen your fucking face!” Riven was inconsolable, falling to the ground as he laughed and howled, “I got you good!”
“Please stop talking.”
“It’s fucking true!”
Nabu rolled his eyes and remained silent as his boyfriend continued to laugh. He kicked off his shoes and threw one at Riven, only causing him to laugh even harder. “You’re so childish..” Nabu mumbled, trying to fight the smile that threatened to show. Riven stopped laughing and smiled, pulling Nabu on top of him. He smirked, messing up his lover’s hair, “You love it. You love me.”
“I refuse to deny or confirm that statement.”
Riven frowned and stared at Nabu in silence. Nabu stared into Riven’s violet eyes, sucking his teeth as he gave in, “Okay, maybe I do—“
Riven immediately smiled, twirling Nabu’s hair with his finger, “I know.”
“But I’m busy, you can’t just..break into my apartment at 12 am in the morning to scare me. Finals are coming up. I have papers to grade and papers to write Riven.”
Riven remained silent, staring at the ceiling. Minutes passed before he got up, reaching his hand out to Nabu, “Do you trust me?”
Nabu blinked and furrowed his eyebrows. What was this? A Disney movie? He took Riven’s hand into his own, hesitant, “Well I’d like to think so.” Riven smirked and held his lover’s hand tightly, running into the bedroom. He turned the lights on, smiling as Nabu let out a gasp.
Nabu’s drab bedroom with it’s blank walls, dull colors, and depressing aura had been decorated anew. The gray color of the room had been replaced with a vibrant mix of magenta and eggplant. The walls were coated with pictures. Several pictures of friends, family but most importantly of Riven and Nabu together. His shoes and closet had been rearranged; his desk was reorganized and cleaned. The scent of lavender candles permeated the air, fluttering Nabu’s flushed senses.
Riven left Nabu’s side, walking to the bed. He got on his knees, reaching underneath the bed for a small book. He got on his feet and placed it in Nabu’s hands, looking at him. It was a scrap book, it’s contents detailed each and every journey Nabu and Riven had together.
Riven played with his own hands, smiling nervously as his cheeks burned a bright pink, “Do you..like it?” Riven struggled with showing affection. He was in love with Nabu, no doubt, but he feared possible rejection from the person he cared about most in the world. He didn’t want to disappoint him.
When he wasn’t given an immediate response, Riven was in immense pain. He closed his eyes, trying to spare himself of as much embarrassment as possible. He opened his mouth to apologize, not even able to speak a single word before he felt Nabu’s arms wrap around him, holding him tightly.
Riven opened his eyes to Nabu’s face buried in his chest, sniffling. “Thank you..God, you have no idea how much I need that..” Nabu whispered and chuckled, pulling away as tears fell from his eyes. Tears pricked Riven’s own eyes, wiping away Nabu’s, “You don’t need to thank me..you work too hard for your own good Nabu.”
Nabu scoffed and smiled, crossing his arms, “I can’t believe I’m hearing this from you..it must be true then.”
Riven playfully rolled his eyes, “This is why I don’t do that romantic shit. You always got something smart to say.” that earned a laugh from Nabu.
He rushed back into Riven’s arms, “You’re an asshole.”
“And you’re a smart ass.”
Nabu held the other man tightly, closing his eyes, “I love you so much..”
Riven was hesitant before wrapping his arms around Nabu, pulling him even closer, “I love you more..” he relaxed into Nabu’s touch.
The two held each other close for the rest of the night, unapologetically in love. Forever.
