Work Text:
The rain outside causes Chuuya to sigh. There were those who loved rain, and there were those who despised it. Chuuya was the latter.
Today had sucked.
He didn’t see Dazai once all day, his phone was dead, and he had been studying for an exam he had zero shot of passing for the past… how long has he been studying?
Chuuya hated nothing more than he hated crying.
Chuuya cried often.
Despite how much he pretended not to, Chuuya cried when he got too mad, when he was overwhelmed or stressed, when he was sad.
Chuuya was definitely going to cry on the hardwood floor of his bedroom…
Until the familiar sound of tapping on his window broke him out of his trance.
“Dazai? It’s fucking late. Why are you here?”
“I did something stupid again.” Dazai admits, picking at his bandages.
That was all the context Chuuya needed to fully pull his lover into his room, hugging him tightly. He was careful to avoid the skin he knew was raw, whether it had been scratched this way or…
The way it had happened wasn’t important. A part of him hated how familiar the routine of it all was, the way he would unwrap the part of Dazai’s bandages and properly clean whatever he’d done, the way he’d kiss each scar revealed, never a hint of disgust in his eyes, the way he’d carefully rewrap his arm in new bandages, and then they’d get into Chuuya’s bed (that was too high off the ground for Chuuya to reach properly, much to his distaste) and he would hold Dazai against his chest until they were lulled into a deep sleep, never talking about the moment ever again.
“How long have you been studying?” Dazai asks, his voice hoarse. “You seem stressed.” Dazai has to bite his tongue to prevent himself from adding his insult onto the end of his sentence, the conversation felt hollow without them, like two robots trying to entertain the life of a human.
Chuuya frowns, running his fingers through Dazai’s hair, stopping to thoughtfully untangle any knots. “Today sucked.”
“Today sucked.” Dazai says in agreement, burying himself further into his lover. “Netflix and Chill?” Dazai asks, already reaching under the bed for the box of snacks Chuuya hid in his room.
“Was that a question or a demand?”
“You know me so well.”

Chuuya was too distracted to focus on whatever stupid movie Dazai had put on. The way Dazai was pressed into him made him feel like he was on fire and he loved every second of it.
“You’re not watching the movie.” Dazai observes, his head falling against Chuuya’s neck.
“I’m not watching the movie.” Chuuya confirms, rubbing his hands up and down Dazai’s spine. Many wondered if it was uncomfortable to sleep with a pile of bandages, Chuuya didn’t have an answer. It just felt right to wake up to an itch against his skin.
“You think more than I do sometimes.” Dazai says, placing a soft kiss on Chuuya’s neck.
Chuuya hums, getting a wiff of Dazai’s shampoo. He had asked Chuuya if it smelled good once and had been using it ever since.
Chuuya doesn’t remember falling asleep that night,
but he knows he did so in the arms of his lover.
Perhaps that was all he needed to know.
