Hi. i feel like some things stopped making logical sense after yule started driving, so i just wanted to let you know that i dont care and its all for my amusement when writing, happy valemntines day. <33
The alarm clock rang at about 7:30 am. It was February 14th. Yule woke up first, his eyesight blurry. He rubbed his eyes and yawned. He noticed Lani was cuddling him. He wondered if Lani’s hair always smelled like a forest fire.
It didn't take Yule that long to realize there was a fire alarm ringing in their kitchen. His eyes widened. He shook Lani into consciousness.
“Yulie… what’s wrong.. I’m so.. so tired..” Lani tried going to sleep once again.
“LANI I THINK THERE'S A FIRE DOWNSTAIRS.” Yule said, completely out of his composure. “RUDY IS STILL IN BED. WHAT IF THE FIRE GOT TO HIM??”
Lani’s brain fully woke up after that. “Woah! Yule!! Calm down my love!! I’ll go get Rudy, please check on the fire!!”
Lani rushed down the hall to Rudy’s room. It was empty. Lani started freaking out. He noticed Jeremy had also been out of his cage. He felt like he was gonna cry in fear but was too worried about Yule to have time to cry, after all, he kind of hoped Jeremy had burned in that fire.
What type of normal person owns an 8 inch long horn beetle?! Well, Rudy was lab-grown and had a bit of an indent in his brain because of something that happened before he hatched.
He heard a loud cry for his name, followed by a loud slam and ran downstairs, bumping into almost every piece of furniture possible. He saw a fire engulfing almost the whole floor. He had dealt with fire his whole life. He had hair made of fire for goodness sake. He didn't have time to wonder how their fire-proof furniture is being eaten by flames. He didn’t exactly have a short time limit, he probably killed his nerves to fire… He nevertheless rushed out of the house as the floors fell and the walls slowly became black with tar.
Yule and Rudy had been outside waiting for Lani, Rudy was hugging Jeremy and crying frantically for Lani to leave the house. Lani ran over to his husband and child. Rudy ran into Lani’s arms and started sobbing over and over the words, “I'm sorry papa” as Lani tried finding out what happened.
Lani picked up Rudy and kept reaffirming to him that whatever he did was okay. Yule got in the driver's seat and immediately started driving. This was also a great excuse to flee the state. Both Lani and Rudy got in the backseats of the car and Rudy sat on Lani’s lap.
Lani wiped Rudy’s tears and nose. He hugged Rudy. After a few minutes Rudy had calmed down. “Okay Junior… can you tell us what you did..?” Lani asked softly. He felt his heart beating from the fucking big ass horn beetle sitting next to them. He shivered and cringed, causing Rudy to giggle. “I… was trying to make pickles and waffled on the stove for papa and daddy… :(“ Yule threw up in his mouth a little.
“W–....” Lani paused. “Why were you making pickles and waffles on the stove…” Rudy didn’t know how to answer, and so he didn’t. He changed the topic to how the house caught on fire.
“I saw papa cooking with oil allot of times and i thought i could make your breakfast with oil but then i slipped and then-then i tried to hold the bottle to not fall and it got on the hot parts so there was a big fire on the counters so —” He was cut short by loud police sirens following the car.
“LANI THEY’RE GETTING ONTO US!! TAKE THE WHEEL” Yule screamed and Rudy covered his ears from sound overstimulation, starting to cry. Lani tried switching places but the driving wheel turned a little too much and the car drove itself into a metal fence. The fence tore and the car swerved into a clump of trees. Lani held Rudy in his arms and hugged him tightly so Rudy didn’t get injured. The trees created a huge dent in the car and Yule struggled to get out of the seatbelt. Lani held Rudy and put him on his back as he ran to the other side of the car.
Yule punched the window and got stabbed by one of the shards on his arm. He grit his teeth in pain. He finally managed to get the seatbelt off and made haste to get outside.
They saw the police cars stopping and officers stepped out. This was officially a chase. Lani kept Rudy on his back and Yule carried Jeremy and they all ran the same way. The forest they found themselves in wasn’t too big but it was very crowded. They kept up with each other quickly and struggled not to trip through the roots. Rudy was wailing and buried his head in Lani’s shoulders. There was a BetterWilliam down the street in front of the end of the forest, Lani and Yule decided to hide in there as they noticed its so in sight that the police wouldn't search it too much. They rushed in and picked out hoodies in their size. Hurriedly, they put on the hoodies for a while until the officers left. Yule walked with Rudy and Lani went another way.
7 minutes later, they were free. They didn't think it would be for too long, there would also probably be officers throughout the town they were in. They didn't have a car either. Rudy clutched onto Jeremy. “Why do we still have.. That?” He asked Yule. Yule chuckled.
“Alright Junior.. Stay close to papa and daddy.. There's.. Uhh… there’s supervillains here and they’re trying to capture you !” Yule said, holding out claw-shaped hands to imitate that of a monster’s. Rudy giggled.
They walked down the street towards an ice cream shop. Lani yawned and held Yule’s hand. “What a peculiar day !! :D” Rudy said, walking in front of the older men. “Do you even know what that word means, Junior?” asked Yule. Rudy shrugged. “Did I use it right??” Rudy stopped and asked. Yule thought for a moment and supposed it was correct so he nodded.
They stopped in front of the Basket Falcon and went in. An employee stopped them. “Sirs, we don't allow pests in our store. Please… take your child outside.” Yule sighed and walked outside with Rudy. Lani was left to pick out the ice cream.
Lani walked out of the shop with two cones and one cup. One of the cones had pizza flavoured ice cream with gummy pepperonis on top, another had cotton candy flavoured ice cream. The cup, that Lani had given to Rudy to share with Jeremy, was fruit flavoured ice cream.
“Today was great.” Yule added after a moment of silence.
“Where are we living now?” Yule and Lani sighed.
