Chapter 1: first kiss

Chapter Text

It was just a regular evening for Sylvie and Sunday. The two were sitting on the couch of Sunday’s large house, winding down after the events of the day. He had a book in hand, while Sylvie was simply laying her head on his shoulder, absentmindedly watching TV. She put on a show she had been watching, but she couldn’t seem to keep her attention towards it today. She kept glancing back at Sunday’s face, trying not to make it too obvious. A lot of thoughts had been running through her head, as has been regular for her recently. Her relationship with Sunday originally started out because she seemed to be one of the few people Sunday could tolerate being around and found somewhat amusing. He figured having a formal partner might be better for looks, and she thought it could be fun. Sylvie had been close friends with his sister, Robin, for a while now. Robin was trying to set different people up with her brother, hoping to help him find some more love in his life. Eventually, she figured him and Sylvie might make a good match and introduced them, having them go on a date. They both seemed to enjoy it and came to the conclusion to have the relationship situation previously stated. At first it was fine. Sylvie learned how to be more proper and matching to his image in public and Sunday now had someone to accompany him without looking peculiar. But recently, a lot of new thoughts have been swarming around Sylvie’s head. It was hard to spend every day and almost every moment of your day around someone without your feelings manifesting to be more. She was too worried to tell Sunday this, fearing it might make him uncomfortable in which case she’d either have to stop being around him, which might damage his image more than if she never existed, or he just wouldn’t feel comfortable around her but be forced to deal with it anyways. Sylvie’s thoughts continued to spin before something cut them off.

“Darling? You’re staring.” Sunday says gently, not even looking up from his book and he turns another page. Sylvie’s gaze quickly snaps back to the TV, embarrassed.

“Sorry.” She says quietly, trying not to show the anxiety in her voice, but it seemed to be futile.

“That’s been happening a lot lately. Your mind seems to be elsewhere often, is everything alright?” Sylvie stays silent for a moment, not knowing what to say.

“Yeah… Yeah. Everything’s...” She hesitates, thinking hard about whether to be honest or not. He finally turns his head to look at her and she glances back at him. “Everything’s okay.” She smiles politely at him, showing that she’s fine.

But he can tell, he can read her. She might be able to fool anyone else, but he knows. He looks back to his book with a calm expression on his features. “Please be honest with me,” he says, continuing with the softer voice, “You’re thinking about something .”

She turned her head to face him, her chin laying against his shoulder, a slightly sad look on her face, like she was looking at something far away. It was a look of longing, of wishing the distance between the two wasn’t so far, even if they were next to each other in that moment. He turned to face her too. They stayed still for a moment, just looking at each other but it was obvious Sylvie wasn’t looking at Sunday, she was still in her thoughts, worrying. Aimless worry without an end in sight, just as her thoughts always were. One of Sunday’s wings laid gently against her head, tenderly comforting her. He let a soft smile form on his lips, his gaze turning almost loving. As he smiled, Sylvie glanced at his lips before realizing how painfully obvious she must be. But, the thought didn’t last long as he moved his face closer to hers, tilting it slightly. His expression grew more amused as he raised his eyebrows at her. After a moment of hesitation, Sylvie let her instincts take hold as she fluttered her eyes closed and leaned in more, her lips about to meet his. Then Sunday leaned to match her, sealing the kiss. They stayed there for a moment, their lips gently pressed against each other and eyes softly closed. Shortly afterwards, Sylvie broke the kiss, slowly moving her head back from his and calmly blinked her eyes open to meet his. The soft smile returned to Sunday’s face as a light, but noticeable blush spread across his cheeks. Sylvie stifles a giggle as she leans her head back onto his shoulder, unaware of the same tint on her own face. She moved one of her arms to wrap around his and gently grab his hand. He intertwined his fingers with hers, leaning his head against her own, with his wing gently laying against her hair.
