Work Text:

It was a sunny day in Remnant with only a few clouds that could be seen in the blue sky above. It was a joyous day and not a single Grimm could be spotted with the happiness and excitement exuding off of everyone in a small little village in the Kingdom of Vale. Today was a day of matrimony between two males - Jaune Arc and Mercury Black.

Within Jaune’s waiting room was his wedding party, his team from Beacon. Pyrrha, who was Jaune’s maid of honor, was currently finishing up the final touches on Jaune’s appearance. She adds a splash of silver behind Jaune’s eyes as a small reference to Mercury and to help his bright blues pop more in pictures. She does a once over on Jaune, on Nora, and on Ren, before doubling checking herself. She dusts off the cerulean fabric of her bridesmaids dress before pulling on her white jacket.

“Is it almost time? I’m getting a little nervous,” Jaune says, wringing his hands together as he watches his friends tidy up their dresses and pull on the jackets to go with.

“It’ll be time soon Jaune, don’t worry too much,” Ren pipes up. “Besides, you’re looking wonderful and it will blow Mercury’s brain.”

“Yeah! Besides, Pyrrha knew exactly what type of dress you could rock! Don’t you feel beautiful?” Nora asks with a grin.

“I mean I do, and I appreciate that you also threw on a dress Ren. It makes me feel a bit more confident, despite having worn a dress our freshman year at Beacon,” Jaune answers, chuckling and relaxing a bit more.

“I told you~” Pyrrha hums out, a small smirk on her lips. “Now, let’s get your jacket on,” she says, motioning to the blonde to get up. She fluffs out the train in the back of Jaune’s high-low white dress before grabbing the jacket off the back of Jaune’s chair. Pyrrha helps Jaune into the jacket, making sure not to mess up the fabric of the dress or Jaune’s hair.

“Oh! Hold on! I got a little something-something for pizazz! After all, you know the wedding thing of ‘Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue!’” Nora chimes in. She pulls out an old box and holds it out to Jaune.

“Well, I have something old, so I take it this is something new?” Jaune asks, gesturing to the simple pearl choker with one hand as he takes the box with his other hand.

“Yup!” Nora chirps, hands on her hips. Jaune opens the box and his eyes widen as he pulls out a silver hair pin. He looks over and notices that it has all four of their personal symbols. He immediately pulls Nora into a hug.

“Thank you Nora, this is really pretty,” the blonde says.

“You’re welcome!” Nora giggles as she returns the hug. She then steps back and lets Pyrrha expertly put the hair pin into the small french braid on the back of Jaune’s head.

“Something borrowed,” Ren says as he steps up and pulls out a simple pair of pink lotus cufflinks. He waits for Jaune to put his wrists out before putting the cufflinks on.

“And something blue,” Pyrrha states, picking up a small box she had set down earlier. She opens it to show simple sapphire earrings before holding it out to Jaune. The blonde man laughs as he takes the box. He carefully exchanges the simple silver studs he had in for the sapphire ones.

“You guys are ridiculous, I love you guys,” Jaune says before motioning for all three of them in for a group hug.

“We love you too, Jaune! We’re so happy for you!” Nora grins as she carefully hugs them all this time. It wasn’t long before a knock at the door came, and Saphron could be heard through the door.

“Alright you four! Time to go~ Mercury is about to walk to the altar!” Saphron says. Pyrrha grabs the bouquets, handing them all out - blue hydrangeas and blue hyacinth for all four, and white irises for Jaune. Pyrrha then carefully picks up Jaune’s train with one hand as Nora gets the door for her and Jaune. She follows Jaune the way they’re supposed to go, smiling brightly at Saphron since she would be walking Jaune down the aisle. Pyrrha’s smile widens even more as she hears Jaune laugh upon seeing Sun and Neptune waiting for them, as Emerald had started walking with Mercury to the altar.

“You guys remembered the tiara’s! Good!” Pyrrha sas nodding in approval.

“Are- are those bowties??” Jaune asks through a laugh as he spots the jade green fabric around the two.

“You bet! Emerald insisted on the bowties,” Sun says. “I even elected to put one on my tail!”

“He said it as a joke and then Emerald forced him,” Neptune says, ousting his best friend.

“Neptune!” Sun huffs. “But alright! Let’s goooo! Time for Jauney-Boy and Merky-Butts to finally tie the knot!”

“Right,” Jaune says, breathing out a bit nervously. Pyrrha reaches forward and gives his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. She watches from her spot behind Jaune as Nora and Sun pair up, and then Neptune and Ren before Saphron takes Jaune’s arm.

Gentle music hits all of their ears as the wedding procession comes through. Pyrrha takes smaller steps as practice since she had much longer legs than Jaune, and she grins seeing the shocked look on Mercury’s face as Jaune was revealed to him. Once at the altar, Pyrrha sets the train down gently before taking her spot close to Jaune, winking across the altar at Emerald since their plan went perfectly. Her emerald eyes roam across the seated guests, lingering on Ruby for just a moment before focusing back on the two in front of her. She listens to the Keeper of Peace, a lemur Faunus by the name of Ringo, say the usual wedding words but with a gay and humorous twist before calling on the ring bearer to bring the rings. She had to stifle a giggle seeing Zwei trot down the aisle with a jade green pillow on his back.

“Thanks Zwei,” Mercury hums out to the dog as he picks up the pillow, taking one ring as Jaune takes the other. Pyrrha takes Jaune’s bouquet for him.

“Now, say your vows,” Ringo says with a smile.

“With this ring, I vow to be by your side, through happiness and misery. To be by your side through bleak battles and simple days. To be by your side when you’re sick, or having horrible days. To cherish our easy and happy days. To be the best man I can be for you. I vow to love you until our dying days and into death,” Mercury says, tears forming in his eyes.

“With this ring, I vow to love you and cherish you, no matter what negativity comes our way. I will be your shield as you are my sword. I will support you in times of need and in times of unease. I vow to be yours until the end of time, to love you as you were, as you are and as you will be. I vow to cherish you at all times, regardless of our situation and will stand by you in every one,” Jaune responds, also about to start crying.

“You may now exchange your rings,” Ringo states. Jaune and Mercury exchange the slim gold bands, each etched with their symbols intertwined. The two then hold hands, staring into each other’s eyes lovingly. “By the power invested within me, I now pronounce you husband and husband. You may now kiss the groom!” he says with a grin. Jaune then pulls Mercury into a kiss, dipping him, both smiling into it.

Pyrrha, alongside everyone else, cheered for the two. Once the now married couple part, she hands the bouquet back to Jaune as the music starts up once more. As Jaune and Mercury start walking back down the aisle, Pyrrha links arms with Emerald and follows the two. She gives a small little wave to Ruby in passing since the tiny girlfriend was sitting in an aisle seat.

“Smitten with the tiny girlfriend I see,” Emerald teases the tall redhead.

“Oh shush Em,” Pyrrha responds, blushing a tiny bit. “But you’re rocking the tux tonight! Glad you got the boys to wear the tiaras and bowties.”

“Of course! It’s Jaune’s and Mercury’s special day and I remember Jaune drunkenly mentioning how funny it would be for Merc’s party to be wearing tiaras. So I delivered,” Emerald smirks.

“Good!” Pyrrha says with a nod. She lets go of Emerald once out of sight from the guests. As expected, pictures while the guests filed out into the party hall were taken. There were wholesome and silly pictures taken of all of them before they were called to go back into the dinner hall. Pyrrha zones out a little bit while they were all called in, thinking on the speech she would have to say about Jaune. As everyone is seated, Pyrrha stays standing as does Emerald, both waiting for a microphone to be brought over. The redhead motions for Emerald to speak first.

“Hey everyone. I guess I get to talk shi- I mean say some nice things about Mercury,” Emerald starts out, getting some laughs. “So Mercury has been my best friend for a while. We both didn’t have the greatest starts to life but it got better when we found each other. Now, I knew from the get go that this was a gay man, as I’m a lesbian myself. We both understood the assignment and kept each other safe while also trying to help each other find the one. What was supposed to be a friendship in crime, became a friendship in safety when you came across Jaune that fateful day. Your gay ass fell heads over heels for Jaune and changed our direction. So thank you Jaune for causing my best friend to be happy and get both of our shit together. I wish nothing but the best for you two.”

“Em- Sometimes I hate you,” Mercury laughs out, shaking his head at the green haired girl.

“Love ya too Merc,” Emerald chuckles as she hands the mic over to Pyrrha.

“Hello!” Pyrrha says into the mic once she has it. “So Jaune here was my first true friend when I came to Beacon, despite his flirting attempts. He didn’t know who I was at first and just started flirting with me. We became teammates and things were a bit awkward at first in terms of if we were platonic or more. What really solidified our friendship I think was when he wore a dress when I didn’t have a date to the ball our freshman year. That was also the night he realized that he might actually like guys more than girls as he spotted Mercury and nearly walked face first into a pillar. But as time went on and we continued our years at Beacon, he became one of the best leaders out there, leading myself, and our two teammates, Nora and Ren, into many battles and coming out on top quite often. I couldn’t have asked for a better best friend and team leader than Jaune. Like Emerald said, I wish nothing but the best for you two in your new chapter of life.”

“Pyrrha!” Jaune says, a few tears in his eyes as he stands up, hugging the redhead.

“You deserve all the happiness Jaune. You’ve come so far,” she says, returning the hug and rubbing his back. After being released, the two sit down and dinner commences. When dinner was done, Jaune stands up and turns his back to the crowd. Various classmates from Beacon understood what was going on, and get ready.

“GET READY!” Jaune shouts before launching the bouquet backwards. Pyrrha watches as all their classmates try to catch the bouquet. Her eyes widen as the bouquet falls into Ruby’s hands.

“PYRRHA!! I CAUGHT IT!!” Ruby calls out with a grin.

“Looks like you’re next Pyrrha~ I get to be your Man of Honor, yeah?” Jaune says with a grin and an elbow nudge. Pyrrha laughs.

“Maybe, we’ll see~” Pyrrha chuckles before heading to her tiny girlfriend. She picks up and spins Ruby around, now spending the rest of the night for her beloved. She watches as Jaune and Mercury cut the cake, each of them swiping frosting onto the other one’s nose. After cake, it was full on party time, with the slow dance between Jaune and Mercury, pride welling up in Pyrrha’s chest as she watched Jaune get the steps right to the simple ballroom dance she spent weeks teaching. The rest of the night went on smoothly, Jaune and Mercury completely happy and just enamored with one another, laughter and shouts of joy echoing through the trees.
