Work Text:
child of trauma, child of the sea,
how harshly you cling to what
makes you human.
are you afraid?
afraid of the power in your hands,
afraid of the rage in your eyes?
are you afraid of the depths of survival
you sunk to just to make it out alive?
are you afraid of storm-grey eyes
and curls of blonde hair,
of the one who anchors you—
that she might see into your soul and flee?
are you afraid of your father’s heritage,
of the storms and earthquakes
he brings about with a glare?
are you afraid of who you are,
who the fates have told you to be?
child of loss, child of hope,
close your eyes and see that
you are the pieces of everything
you’ve ever known, and you are more.
you are your mother’s love and
loyalty,
your father’s
p o w e r
and
divinity,
your best friend’s laughter and jokes.
you are more than what they told you
you could be, and you are different.
you are the light for the future,
the lighthouse in the sea of uncertainty.
child of the old ways, path to the new,
you are who you want to be.
and who exactly is that?
