Year of the Dragon

Summary:

The heroes of Sternbild City celebrate the Year of the Dragon.

Notes:

Author’s Note: This takes place the year before the first episode of the anime. That means no Bunny, but he is mentioned in this story, sort of.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Explain to me again why we’re here,” Wild Tiger said as he pointed to himself, Rock Bison, and Dragon Kid.

“It’s the Year of the Dragon,” the man in red said, pointing to the youngest hero. “You two represent the previous years of the Tiger and the Ox. We would have preferred a rabbit, but there’s no rabbit hero.”

Bison crossed his arms across his chest. “I’m not a castrated bull.”

“Close enough.” The man shrugged. “And three is luckier than one. Now do you know your lines?”

Pao-Lin spun her staff. “Xīn nián kuài lè and Lóng nián dàjí.

Notes:

Language notes: I used Google to translate the Chinese phrases, so I apologize if I got them wrong.
Xīn nián kuài lè (Happy New Year.)
Lóng nián dàjí (Great luck in the Dragon Year.)

Author’s Note: If we assume that the years in Tiger & Bunny correspond to our years, that makes Kotetsu and Antonio both water horses, Pao-Lin a wood dragon, and Barnaby a water snake.
