Work Text:
Hao bursts into their bedroom, bunny hairband still on from his nightly skincare routine, phone in one hand, flopping on the bed next to where Hanbin is sitting. Hanbin immediately is on high alert. Hao never interrupts his nightly skincare routine, so something very serious must be on his phone for him to faceplant on their bed without a care for his skin.
“What happened, Hao?” Hanbin cards his fingers through Hao’s hair gently, prepared to console him for whatever news he’s about to hear.
Hao lifts his head from the mattress with a crazed look in his eyes. “I just hit 5 million subscribers!!” Hao shouts before throwing his head back onto the mattress to muffle his screams of delight, legs kicking.
Hanbin immediately breaks out into a huge smile, whisker dimples appearing. “Oh my gosh, Hao, this is amazing!!” Once Hao is done screaming into their mattress, he reaches over to Hao’s waist to pull him up on the bed more, into his lap. Once Hao is situated, Hanbin looks into his eyes. “I am so unbelievably proud of you, and I knew you could always do it. You inspire so many people with this channel that you don’t even know. I can’t wait to see what else you do in the future.” When Hanbin finishes, he pulls Hao in for a sweet kiss, making sure to put in just how proud he is of his little star.
When they pull away, Hao has a smile on his face. He leans in to press a small kiss to Hanbin’s nose, making him giggle. “I wouldn’t have been able to continue without you beside me, encouraging me the whole time, so thank you for still being here with me.” Hao means every word he says.
In the past, partners would try to discourage Hao from uploading his makeup tutorials and reviews on his channel out of jealousy, out of disgust for Hao putting makeup on, or out of fear that Hao was bigger or more popular than they were, but when Hao revealed his YouTube channel to Hanbin, Hanbin immediately was impressed by how Hao was running everything by himself and offered his help. Without Hanbin there to keep his deadlines in check and encourage him to upload, not even for his subscribers but for himself, Hao wouldn’t have been able to continue. Since Hanbin and Hao started dating, he’s even encouraged Hao to upload some of his violin covers on his channel too, so truly, Hanbin was a huge part of the success of Hao’s YouTube channel.
Hanbin shakes his head at Hao’s words. “You make it so easy to be here with you, so don’t make it sound like it’s a chore or something. I love you so much.”
Hao wills the tears to go back in his eyes. Hanbin always has a way to make Hao cry with just his words. “I love you so much.”
A few days pass after that. Hao held a small gathering with their closest friends to celebrate his milestone but had yet to upload anything new to his channel.
“Hanbin?” Hao calls out from his makeup room.
Hao smiles as he hears Hanbin’s slippers hit their floor rapidly making his way over. “Yes? Everything alright?”
Hao lets out a giggle. “Everything’s alright with me, don’t worry… but!” Hao takes a breath, unsure of how Hanbin will react.
Hanbin looks at Hao gently, making sure to give Hao time to gather his words. Hao is always so grateful for how well Hanbin can read him. “I was thinking as a gift for my subscribers for 5 million, what if I did a ‘doing my boyfriend’s makeup challenge’ video? The Rosins always hear you in the background of my videos and have been so curious to see who you are, so this seems like a good gift for them…” Hao trails off. Before Hanbin can respond, Hao rambles on. “Obviously, if you’re uncomfortable with that, don’t force yourself to come on the channel! It’s a lot putting yourself out there, also putting on a full face of makeup is weird too, so actually, we can pretend I didn’t say anything. I can just host a giveaway! The Rosins will appreciate that too. And maybe I could upload a new violin cover, it’s been a while since I’ve done that too.”
Hao stared down at his feet, hoping Hanbin would leave without a big fuss and ignore what he just said. He’s startled out of his thoughts when he feels Hanbin lean down to press a kiss to his head. He looks up in shock, seeing Hanbin with a smile on his face.
“I’d love for you to do my makeup. You always get all dolled up at home, so I want to be the one that gets dolled up for once.” Hanbin jokes, making Hao huff out a laugh.
“Are you sure? You really don’t have to force yourself on my behalf. Only do this because you really are comfortable.” Hao didn’t want Hanbin to feel bad and force himself to officially appear on his channel.
“I’m sure. I’m here for you and would do anything for you.” Hanbin holds onto Hao’s hands, giving them a reassuring squeeze. “Also, I want everyone to see that you are mine only. Just because they hear me talk on your channel doesn’t mean they stopped writing comments about still wanting to be with you.”
Hao let out a bigger laugh. “Hanbin, you can’t seriously be jealous of the Rosins. You’re the only one I come to every night.”
Hanbin pouted, “But they still won’t stop fantasizing about being with you, so I need to announce to the world officially that you are mine and mine only.”
“Okay, then let’s do just that.”
Hao made sure the lighting and cameras were all correct before sitting in his usual makeup chair. He took a deep breath to calm himself before looking into the camera.
“Guri guri Zhanguri! Hi guys! It’s Zhang Hao here to celebrate our five million subscribers!!! I can’t believe it Rosins, you guys have really outdone yourselves, and I can’t believe how much love and support I receive from you guys. I hope you guys can feel any bit of love and support I get from you guys right back through my videos. With every comment you guys leave me, I get so much strength, so I hope you guys get some strength from my videos too. You guys have no idea how much this means to me. Because of all of you, I can be creative with my makeup and music, so I can’t thank you guys enough for this gift.”
Hao pauses before clapping his hands together. “Before I start crying in front of you guys, ruining my already finished face of makeup, you guys probably will want me to get to the title of this video, which is… drumroll please!” He claps his hands on his knees, Hanbin from off-screen doing the same, making Hao giggle. “I’m going to be doing my boyfriend’s makeup today!! I know you guys hear him from off-screen and get glimpses of him walking through, but you guys are always so curious to see him, so I hope this is a good enough gift to thank you all for 5 million subscribers. So everyone, welcome to the video, my boyfriend, Hanbin!!”
Hanbin pushes another chair into frame before sitting down. “Hi guys, I’m Hanbin, Hao’s boyfriend! I’m so excited to be here and to get my makeup done. Can you guys believe after so many years of dating, he still hasn’t offered to do my makeup?”
Hao playfully smacks his arm at that. “It’s not like you ever asked!! Also. you’re already so handsome, you don’t need makeup.” Hao pats Hanbin’s cheek at that statement.
Hanbin’s ears go a little red at that. He clears his throat to try and distract people from noticing. “Well anyways! I washed my face and moisturized, AND put on sunscreen.” Hao nods his head approvingly at that. “So now my face is ready for whatever you want to do to it.”
Hao claps his hands excitedly. “I’m so proud of his skincare routine now, Rosins. You know, before we were dating, he’d just wash his face with body wash and thought that was enough?? But he’s all good now, we have a solid routine down for him to preserve his handsome, beautiful face.”
Hao stands up to bring over his makeup cart, leaving Hanbin blushing in his chair. Once Hao has the cart in frame, he picks up a primer. “Alright Rosins, you already know my full standard makeup routine, which is what I’ll be doing on Hanbin, with a little more *~pizzazz~*, but while I get the base down and everything, I asked you guys on Twitter what questions you had for my boyfriend, so we’re going to answer them while I work. Also, of course, everything I have used on my face and will be using on Hanbin’s face will be listed below!”
Hao hands Hanbin his phone to the tweet Hao posted while Hao gets to work putting primer on his face.
“Okay guys, the first question is how long have we been together? And how did you guys meet.” Hanbin says, looking up from the phone. Hao gestures for Hanbin to answer as he starts squeezing some foundation on the back of his hand.
Hanbin keeps his face as still as possible as Hao starts blending the foundation into his face. “We’ve been together for four years and three months now. We met through a brand event actually. I’m a choreographer for some idol groups, and one of them went to perform at a brand event that they had a partnership with. They invited me to come and to also give them feedback on the performance since it was one of their first promotions for it. Hao was there too, since he also had a partnership with them. We had a mutual model friend who also went, Jiwoong, and this is my favorite part.” Hanbin lets out a laugh before continuing, Hao’s ears already turning red because he knows what Hanbin is about to reveal. “Hao begged Jiwoong to introduce me to him because he was immediately enraptured by my face. After the introduction, we ended up talking the whole night until they started shutting the party down, and we’ve been together ever since really.”
Hao lets out a huff, pausing his blending. “Hanbin always makes such a big deal out of that! I wasn’t begging Jiwoong to introduce us together, I simply said ‘Oh, he looks nice,’ and Jiwoong, being the extrovert that he was, dragged me over to talk to you.”
“Jiwoong has told me very differently when we hang out,” Hanbin says, giving Hao some side eye, but continues. “It doesn’t even matter, because I also was enraptured by your beauty at the event.”
Hao feels his knees weaken at that, clinging onto Hanbin’s shoulders as Hanbin laughs at Hao’s cute reactions. “If you keep talking like this, I’m not going to be able to finish your makeup properly.” Hao mumbles.
“Okay, okay, I’ll behave. Everything I said is true though! We’ll move on.” Hanbin looks back at Hao’s phone as Hao finishes blending and moves onto concealer.
“Next question! What’s your favorite part of each other?” Hanbin reads. “I can go first. Aside from Hao’s stunning visuals, Hao really has the most beautiful, delicate soul. He may act strong and cold on the outside, but on the inside, he has a pure heart. He always puts others first, almost to the point when he stops taking care of himself, and makes sure to take care of everyone around him. He wants to make sure everyone around him is happy and healthy and puts his all into making sure that happens. I think all of the Rosins can see that too, which is why you have so many subscribers now, Hao.” Hanbin looks at Hao the whole time saying that.
“Hanbin!” Hao whines, leaning down to clutch Hanbin’s shoulders again. “What did I say about saying stuff like this? I’m really not going to be able to do a good job on your makeup, and you’re going to make my makeup look bad if you make me cry.”
“I can’t help but talk like this when I’m thinking about you, Hao! You bring these words out of me.” Hanbin brings Hao’s chin up to look at him. “Your makeup still looks perfect, so you don’t need to worry about it. And I trust your skills, you can’t mess my makeup up, especially with such a flawless canvas.” Hanbin lets out a cheesy wink, effectively making Hao laugh, picking himself back up.
Hao clears his throat. “Okay! I will answer the question too, as I powder your face. You can’t breathe during this part, or else the powder will kill you.” Hao says with eyes wide open, trying to intimidate Hanbin. Hanbin can’t help but find Hao cute, but still shuts up and breathes shallowly to not get the powder in his nose.
“My favorite part about Hanbin, also excluding the fact that he’s beautiful, is that he takes care of others and is so outgoing with his love and desire to help others. I’m introverted, we all know that, so seeing Hanbin always putting himself out there to make sure even the most random strangers are doing okay is so inspiring to me. He welcomed all my friends and family with open arms, to the point where I think they might like him more than me now.” Hao laughs. Hanbin moves like he wants to argue, but Hao moves on to start contouring Hanbin’s face, so he can’t say anything. “Hanbin also is so diligent in making sure people are taken care of, which is I guess what he said about me, but that’s also one of my favorite parts. We match in so many ways, so we understand each other so well. I really couldn’t have asked for a better partner.”
Hanbin looks at Hao with stars in his eyes, leaning up to press a quick peck to Hao’s lips. “Like I always say, we’re soulmates.”
Hao and Hanbin stare at each other with loving smiles, possibly for way too long, but thankfully, Hao is a fantastic editor so they can cut this out. Hao starts filling in Hanbin’s eyebrows as he motions for Hanbin to continue with the questions.
“Next question is much faster, what’s your favorite quirk about the other that they don’t know about?” Hanbin asks.
“I’ll go first this time. I love that Hanbin never hides when he's confused or disgusted. He always makes this face-" Hao demonstrates by opening his mouth slightly downwards, eyes wide, brows slightly furrowed. He stops after a few seconds, laughing with his whole body curling in on itself, as Hanbin looks at him with The Confused Face, genuinely confused.
"There's no way that's the face I make?? I'm not that obvious, right Haohao??" Hanbin asks, concerned by how revealing his face might be.
Hao continues laughing, breathing loudly trying to calm himself down, holding onto Hanbin's wrist to not fall. Hanbin holds Hao's waist gently with his free hand, waiting for his response.
"You're literally making it right now! I'm going to edit our faces next to each other, you and all the Rosins will see." Hao says, carefully patting the corner of his eyes for tears that threaten to ruin his makeup.
Hanbin still looks at Hao with his confused face but tries to compose himself to answer the question. "Well in the beginning, one of my favorite things was Hao never knew how to wink, so he would always just blink whenever trying to be cute with me, which honestly made him even cuter!" Hanbin says. "Now he knows how to wink and attacks me with them on a daily basis."
Hao and Hanbin share a laugh at that. Hao turns to the camera to demonstrate his winking while Hanbin dramatically clutches his heart at each wink. "He's too cute!! Someone stop him!!"
Hao turns back to him with a sarcastic face for the teasing but composes himself to start his favorite part: the eyes.
"I'm going to start on the eyeshadow for Hanbin now everyone! We're going to add *~pizzazz~* by adding pearls all around his eyes. I have a vision, so bear with me, guys." Hao announces.
"I'll move on to the next question then. What's your favorite activity to do with each other?" Hanbin reads. He pauses to think while Hao carefully blends the eyeshadow. "I love doing literally anything with Hao, which I know is not a real answer, so my more real answer is I love when Hao plays the violin for me. I know it’s not really something we’re doing together, but the time we spend together when he plays is always so precious to me. Did you guys know that Hao actually only played the violin for a year or so when he was younger? He only picked it up again recently when I found out he could play when we started dating. He’s so talented, being able to pick it back up and play covers so beautifully like that.”
Hao’s ears are burning bright red at Hanbin’s words, but he mumbles a “thank you, Binnie” under his breath to show his appreciation for Hanbin’s praise. He focuses on blending for a second to try to calm his heart down.
Once Hao finishes the basic shadow look, he sets his brushes down to answer the question before adding the pearls on Hanbin’s face. “I love all the little things with Hanbinnie, like when we sit on the couch together to watch my drama, when we do our skincare together, when we buy groceries together, but I really like when he shows or teaches me the dances that he’s working on. He’s extremely talented at dancing, and an even better teacher, so dancing together let’s me experience both, not to mention,” Hao leans close to the camera and whispers, “He’s super hot while dancing.”
Hanbin gasps, playfully smacking Hao and pulling his arms to bring Hao back to him. They’re both giggling together. “You look hot dancing too, why do you think I keep bringing you to the studio to dance with me??”
Hao laughs and moves to leave Hanbin’s arms. “Alright, let’s focus for a second. All the hard things are next: eyeliner, mascara, and the pearls.”
Hao and Hanbin quiet down as Hao carefully draws on small wings for the eyeliner. When Hao moves on to mascara, he sighs dramatically. “Hanbin already has perfect lashes, why does God give the prettiest lashes to men who don’t do anything with them?”
Hanbin lets out an indignant squawk. “Hey! I used them to woo you. Weren’t you just entranced by my beautiful lashes framing my beautiful eyes?” Hanbin blinks his eyes rapidly for Hao, making Hao laugh.
“Alright fine, maybe you do have some use for them. At least I don’t need to put in much work to make them nice for this makeup look.” Hao says before focusing up again on mascara and then pearls.
Hao is careful with applying the eyelash glue around Hanbin’s face. Hanbin looks at Hao the whole time, trying not to break into a huge smile looking at how focused he is with the makeup. Hanbin really does admire Hao’s passion for this art form, especially in a world that doesn’t appreciate what he does as much as he deserves.
After a few minutes of Hanbin’s mind spiral of the love and admiration he has for his boyfriend, Hao leans back to admire his work.
“Alright guys! All we have left is blush, highlighter, and lips.” Hao puckers his lips for the camera, letting out obnoxious kissing sounds that make Hanbin laugh so hard he snorts.
“Ah, that’s right! That’s something else I love about Hanbin! I make it my goal each day to make Hanbin let out a snort while he’s laughing once. When he does, I feel like I’ve done my role each day as boyfriend of the year.” Hao explains, eyes lighting up since he just fulfilled his goal.
Hanbin cooed, “Aww baby, that’s your goal every day? You’re so freaking cute.”
Hao freezes, face rapidly turning red. “Please forget I said that, let’s move on to blush.”
“Let me read another question then,” Hanbin says as he stays still for Hao to brush some blush and highlighter on his cheeks. “Here’s an easy one, what was your last date together?”
“Oh, we’re going to sound so boring to Rosins,” Hao says with a pout. “Guys, when you’re together for four years, the dates may sound more lame, but I still enjoy them!”
Hanbin chuckles. “Our last date was over the weekend, we went out for hotpot for dinner and then went to this violin showcase at the music college nearby.”
“It sounds lame, but I really like seeing what the kids are doing these days and seeing what pieces I could learn in the future,” Hao explains.
“It’s not lame if it’s something you like, baby,” Hanbin says softly, trying to reassure Hao about his interests.
Hao sputters, putting the highlighter away before accidentally turning Hanbin into the tin man. “I mean, yeah, I guess that’s true. But also you have to say that because you’re my boyfriend.”
“Even if I wasn’t your boyfriend, I would think you were cool, Hao,” Hanbin says, smiling at the fact that he is the only one who can make Hao flustered like this.
Hao avoided eye contact and busied himself with choosing the right lip products.
“Let’s answer one more question before the lips!” Hanbin announced. He saw Hao nod in agreement as he was checking colors before continuing. “What are your favorite nicknames to call each other?”
Hao paused to turn towards the camera and think. “I guess we’re usually pretty normal, baby, honey, sweetie. Sometimes we throw in soulmate, love, moon, or star. When Hanbin’s feeling respectful he’ll call me ‘hyungie’, although this man does not have any respect for me.”
Hanbin’s eyes and mouth opened in protest. “That’s not true!! I’m very respectful. You can’t say that, what will all the strangers think??”
Hao rolled his eyes. “First of all, these are not strangers, these are my Rosins.” Hao smiled cheekily at the camera with a wink. “Second of all, it’s okay, it’s 2024, it’s not a big deal these days anyway.”
Hanbin sighs. “Just don’t go out giving your Rosins a bad idea of me.” Hanbin thinks of something else and grins. “Besides, we all know your favorite is when I call you Gege.”
Hao immediately goes red and turns back around to try and find the right lipstick. “You so did not need to share that with my Rosins, oh my god.” Hanbin laughs at Hao’s reaction.
Once he chose his colors, he turned back to Hanbin. “Now you can shut up and stop embarrassing me. I need to line your lips, so don’t move.” Hao stared at Hanbin in the most intimidating way that he could, but all Hanbin saw was his baby trying to get the upper hand. He didn’t outwardly chuckle to give Hao a sense of being higher up and kept his lips as still as possible for him.
Once Hao was finished, he clapped excitedly. “Ah, Rosins!! Look at how pretty Hanbin is now!! I’m going to set this with my setting spray, and then we will finally do the big reveal with the mandatory beauty montage and Hanbin reacting to his makeup look!”
Hao sprayed Hanbin’s face, making sure to be as gentle as possible, and then scurried off to change his lighting settings for the grand reveal.
“How does all the makeup feel, Hanbinnie?”
“Surprisingly light. This just shows how much of a good makeup artist Hao-hyung is, guys!” Hanbin replies.
Hao laughs. “Alright, the lighting is all set. Imagine sexy music and pose for the camera!”
Hanbin is a natural in front of the camera, turning his head at all angles for the camera to capture and posing with his hands. Hao, the whole time, yells out encouragements like “Oh my god, you’re so hot!!” or “You’re so sexy, do you have a boyfriend?” as Hanbin moves, making Hanbin break character a couple of times.
When Hao finally deems the posing to be enough, he walks back over with a mirror. “Are you ready to finally see your makeup?”
Hanbin enthusiastically nods, making grabby hands towards the mirror. “Yes! I’ve been dying to see what masterpiece you have crafted on my face.” When Hanbin finally turns the mirror to his face, his jaw drops.
He’s had makeup on a couple of times when he was younger and was a part of dance competitions, but never so meticulously done. He couldn’t believe how many pearls were dancing around his eyes. He’s surprised at how fast Hao put them on considering there are so many of them.
He finally turned to Hao, who was still waiting anxiously for Hanbin’s reaction. “I love this so much, baby. You made me look so pretty, almost as pretty as you.” Hanbin was starting to lean over to give Hao a kiss for his hard work but was stopped by Hao’s arms holding him back.
“Don’t ruin the lipgloss!!” Hao scolded with wide eyes. He immediately softened seeing Hanbin’s pout. “Alright fine, just a little peck. I don’t want the gloss to travel all around your mouth.” He leaned in to give Hanbin a quick peck. “Do you really like the makeup I did?”
Hanbin smiled. He knows that as much as Hao talks about how hate comments don’t get to him, he still needs to hear the verbal affirmation that Hanbin will gladly provide. “Yes, I really do love this makeup. I’ve never looked or felt more pretty in my life, and it’s all because of you and your amazing talents.” Hanbin grasped Hao’s hands gently to emphasize that his hands held so much talent.
“Thank you, Binnie,” Hao responded quietly, lips quirked up into a small smile, apple cheeks showing.
After a few more seconds of them looking at each other, marveling, Hao turned towards the camera to close out the video. “Alright Rosins, how did you like the gift I prepared for you??” Hao placed his hands around his ears as if to hear the Rosins cheer from the camera. “Again, I can’t thank all of you enough for five million subscribers. When I first made this channel, I just wanted an outlet to express my love for makeup. I had no idea it would grow to be this huge. My excitement for this milestone is the same as when I finally hit 100 subscribers, so your support seriously means the world to me. Thank you again for watching my little YouTube videos, your support brings me so much light and joy. I’ll see you guys next time with another video, so make sure you’re subscribed to catch that one! Also, be sure to write nice comments about my boyfriend below and thank him for joining me on this video!! Have a good day, bye!!” Hao waves his hands and motions for Hanbin to join him in waving.
Before Hao ends the recording, Hanbin speaks up. “I also wanted to come on here for everyone to see that my Hao-hyung is mine, so I better not see any more comments asking for his hand in marriage!!” Hanbin says, putting his hands on Hao’s waist to show everyone that Hao is his. Hao laughs at Hanbin’s words while still waving to the camera.
Hao gets up from Hanbin to end the recording. He turns back and immediately jumps onto Hanbin who is ready to steady him.
“AHHH Hanbin!!! Thank you so much again for being part of my video! I love you so much.” Hao said, trying not to nuzzle too hard into Hanbin’s neck for fear of wiping his whole face of makeup onto his boyfriend.
Hanbin chuckled, arms circled securely around Hao’s waist and hands giving comforting rubs to Hao’s back. “Of course, hyung. You work really hard for your channel, so this was the least I could do to help you out with your content.”
Hao pulled back to look into Hanbin’s eyes. “What would I do without you?”
Hanbin chuckled, “Pretty sure you would still be doing the same thing, dazzling millions of people around you. I’m just lucky enough to be able to watch you do it within arms reach.”
When Hao leaned in for the kiss this time, concern for Hanbin’s gloss was thrown out the window, and oh, how sweet the kiss was.
