Chapter Text
“Quite a year.” Brenda said in a hushed tone as she found Sharon in a quiet corner.
“You’re not kidding.” Sharon agreed, nodding in agreement.
Sharon smiled gratefully at Brenda. Ever since she’d broken up with Andy, she’d felt increasingly disconnected from the Major Crimes team members. Sharon intended to just hang out for about an hour and then duck out of the party.
Brenda was a sight for sore eyes though. Sharon hadn’t expected her to be there since Brenda and Fritz had also split up that year.
“Here.” Brenda held out a red solo cup.
“Oh, I have one.” Sharon held up her own cup.
“You have punch.” Brenda said and wiggled her proffered cup, “I have sangria.”
Sharon grinned. “How is it that you always know exactly the right thing to say?” Sharon set her cup down and accepted the one from Brenda.
“You’re the only person who thinks that.” Brenda scoffed, “I’m pretty sure most people think the opposite of me.”
“Yeah, but whose opinion matters more than mine?” Sharon teased.
Brenda smiled a broad and genuine smile that warmed Sharon’s whole body.
“I wasn’t expecting to see you this year.” Sharon admitted.
“I came to see you.” Brenda said softly.
Sharon opened her mouth to say something when Mike wandered by and pointed at his former boss. “Oh, hey Chief.”
“Hi Tao.”
“Oh, look.” Mike pointed above their heads. “Mistletoe.”
Sharon and Brenda looked up and saw the ball of mistletoe above their heads and when they looked back, Mike had already walked away.
The two women locked eyes and Sharon smiled. “Well, it is tradition.”
Brenda cupped Sharon’s cheek and pulled her in for a kiss before either of them had a chance to second guess what they were doing.
Sharon sighed softly against Brenda’s lips and Brenda’s couldn’t stop herself from smiling. They pulled back slowly, looking at each other with smiles and pink cheeks.
“Whoa.” Brenda breathed.
