There is nothing, then there is everything: scarlet erupting in Pietro’s mind like an explosion, rushing through his body, lighting up his mind until he feels like he’s going to die all over again; there is nothing, then he blinks his eyes open to dark sky and dust and Wanda’s glowing, sad red eyes.
It manages to feel like a violation; torn from the soil where he was supposed to be lying in his own blood with his skull caved in, and he can’t manage to not resent her for it, for a small moment, but it pales next to all of the warmth flooding him when she touches him, erasing their father from his mind for the moment; when she pulls him in, when she hugs him, when she trails fingertips along his jaw. When she parts her lips to speak, her gaze full of affection for him and coldness for everything else, when all of it fades to nothing again.
