Mission & Lover

Summary:

Love is a curious, peculiar thing. Just as much as it is dangerous. It will pull you through hell and high waters and still survive. It will make you do things you never thought possible, both literally and figuratively. But as much as it changes you, it also strengthens you and builds you up before it brings you to the love of your life and, justifiably, holds you two in a vice-like grip.

Hi, I'm Charlie Irva Bartowski, mission and lover of John Casey, and this is our story.

Chapter 1: Intro

Chapter Text

John Casey is a relatively distant man. You have to be when being an NSA Agent isn't just your job, but your life. His emotions, what little ones he has, are as simple as he is distant. You get on his nerves, he shoots you. You annoy him, he shoots you. You touch his guns, ha, he shoots you. You... I think you get the point. Either way, if you somehow manage to make him smile or just smirk in a non-condescending way, you're one of two people.

One, you're his mission, in which he will shoot you. One way or the other, he will find a reason to shoot you, just for making him smile. It may not be lethal, but he'll still shoot you.

Or two, you're his lover. Not yet, maybe your relationship is... Still in the works, for lack of a better term, but if you're his lover, then congrats, but, your life just got a whole hell of a lot more complicated.

But if you're his mission and his lover... Let's just say, he doesn't know whether to shoot you, multiple times, or hold onto you for dear life. Afraid that someway or somehow, you'll slip through his fingers.

It's been one year since Chuck's life took a sharp turn in the opposite direction. For better or worse, she still isn't sure. It's been one year since the Intersect was downloaded into her brain by her ex, Bryce Larkin. It's been one year since the two people she thought would kill her, became her immovable supports.

It's been one year since she met him.

Him, being the sexy Major that is John Casey, or as her best friend likes to call him, "The hulking, scowling, growling mountain wearing a green shirt and sandy slacks."

She likes that green shirt. It's tight on him and outlines his-... Hmhmm, anyway. The first time she saw him, she both ogled and freaked. He didn't look natural, walking around the store, seemingly innocently, searching for something. He looked more like a bouncer for Big Mike, or a bodyguard, or a serial killer... The last idea, courtesy of Morgan Grimes.

But her ogles were cut short when Grimes started going off and a pretty blond showed up with phone problems. She was nice and sweet, and they quickly became friends, before Chuck found out. But when she finally left, Chuck tried to subtly, fail, search for the attractive mountain. She couldn't help but frown in disappointment when her search came up empty.

So, when she found out the pretty blond, Sarah, and the attractive mountain, Casey, were her handlers, she was both happy and petrified. but the latter outweighed the former, so it was hard to tell. Understandably.

She's still petrified, but more of what Casey would do when he finds out she thinks he's... Cute.

Their first kiss hadn't gone exactly as she had hoped. Under pressure, sick, dying, ya know, the job description.

And when he said, "I have served my country with loyalty and honor, please, let me die with dignity." It really struck her to the core. He basically said that she was unworthy of him, her kissing him would humiliate him and make him feel undignified and dishonorable.

She tried to think of another explanation, but the original always stuck in her head, echoed in the back of her mind when she tried to push it off, no matter what. It hurt. So, she backed off. She bit her cheek and took a big step back.

She didn't notice, but Casey did. He notices how she was a bit more restrained when she talked to him. How she would just stare at him for a few seconds then walk away. It wasn't until after the "Kissing Incident" that he noticed, though. It wasn't that he had developed feelings for her, or felt bad about what he said... Though he realized he probably shouldn't have worded it in the way he did, he was dying, give him a break. He simply observed her. And for the life of him, he couldn't figure out why she was acting un-Bartowski-like.

But I think it's time we stopped with the explanations and confusion. It thinks it's time we start with the story.
