Can You Spare A Doki?

Summary:

After MC supposedly stole a tablet featuring a love song Monika wrote, she puts him out of the literature club and sends him into a spiral of depression. And Sayori isn't tolerating that. A parody of a certain scene from "Can You Spare A Dime?" from SpongeBob.

Work Text:

The late spring warmth was shining down from the cyan skies above. Yuri and Natsuki were walking down the street that Sayori and MC lived on, having just left club for the day. Yuri had a worried look in her eyes whilst Natsuki was nonchalant, her hands behind her head.

"Relax, I doubt MC's still sad over being kicked out of the club," Natsuki said to Yuri.

That's when the two literature club members noticed MC's bed being pushed towards them, with MC himself stuck in the bed, wide awake and frightened, and Sayori angrily shoving the bed along at high speed. Had Yuri and Natsuki not stepped to the side, they would've been plowed down by the incoming bed. Sayori kept pushing the bed along, not stopping to so much as even glance at her friends.

Sayori and MC's bed left Yuri and Natsuki behind in milliseconds, nearly immediately becoming specs in the distance. The two club members stared in the direction Sayori ran off to for a few seconds prior to facing each other.

"It's therapy time for her," Yuri casually stated.

"Yeeeep," Natsuki replied.

Monika was back in the club room, sitting at the desk, a laptop in front of her and holding a landline phone up to her closest ear.

"Donate to the children's fund?!" Monika responded to the person on the other end of the phone. "What children's fund?! Who-"

Monika was snapped out of her terrified state when Sayori slammed the club door open. The brunette president otherwise didn't have time to react to her vice president's sudden appearance, allowing Sayori to snatch the landline phone and throw the whole thing away before Monika could even place the phone back in its base.

"You want a love song to give to whoever it is?! Here!" Sayori growled, pulling a paper with writing on it out of thin air and handing it to Monika. "Now MC can come back, right?!"

"Sayori, I appreciate you trying to replace my love song, but no replacement can make up for MC running off with the tablet I had it on."

"Oh, so it's a tablet you want!" the vice president snarled. Sayori whipped out a fancy new tablet and slammed it onto Monika's desk. "There, merry Christmas!"

"Sayori," Monika sternly said, her eyes narrowing. "Thank you for the tablet, but that's neither solving the biggest issue, nor is it getting MC back in the club. I sunk hours into writing that song for my beloved, and I am NOT forgiving that thieving friend of yours for stealing it!"

Suddenly, Sayori reached out to Monika with only one hand, using it to tightly wrap around the club president's neck and hoist Monika up into the air, over the desk, and turn her around to where Sayori was previously facing away from.

"Listen you pretentious president!" Sayori roared. "Outside of being dragged to school every day by me, all MC's been doing is wallowing in depression because YOU'VE separated him from something he's grown to enjoy AND his new friends!" Sayori's blue eyes became bloodshot, her single-handed grip on Monika's neck grew tighter, and she started shaking her club president around in the air. "AND YOU'RE NOT GOING TO LET HIM REJOIN ALL BECAUSE OF A STUPID LOVE SONG FOR SOMEONE WHO ONLY EXISTS IN YOUR SCHIZOPHERNIC IMAGINATION?!"

Sayori's shaking of Monika grew even more violent, to the point where something fell from Monika's backside and landed on the floor, somewhat breaking through the wooden flooring.

Said something was a stone tablet, covered in moss, engraved with words, and standing upright thanks to being partially buried in the floor.

"What's that?" Sayori asked, instantly calming down and letting Monika drop to the floor.

"My tablet! MY LOVE SONG!" Monika squealed with joy, picking up her stone tablet as a thought bubble stemmed from her head. Said thought bubble contained the word "Player" and hearts that swarmed around the singular word.

"This is your tablet?" Sayori inquired while Monika hugged the rectangular slab.

"I've been around for a very long time," Monika replied, her thought bubble popping.

"Monika, you're the same age as me and the others," Sayori pointed out, giving the president a deadpan glare.

"True, though it does feel like I've been around for a very long time. Sometimes I even feel like I was born earlier than I actually was. More specifically, July twenty-nineth in 1995 feels like my true birth date, for some strange reason." Silence filled the club room for a few moments. Monika blankly stared at Sayori, and Sayori gave Monika a concerned glare, eventually being the one to break the silence.

"Something's wrong with you. Really. You're wasting my time," Sayori said in Merlin the clownfish's voice before walking away from Monika and towards the door, stopping when right in front of the exit to speak in her normal voice again. "You better let MC-"

"Yes yes, he's permitted to return, now leave me and my tablet alone," Monika answered.

Sayori's mood instantly brightened up, as signified by a beaming smile across her face. The precious vice president stepped out the door, where MC's bed, with MC still covered by blankets on it, was awaiting her in the hallway, right next to the door.

"MC! You're back in the club!" Sayori squealed.

"Oh wow, seriously?" MC replied, his saddened eyes widening up.

"Yes sir! Now hopefully I don't have to be the one dragging people out of bed anymore!" Once Sayori was done talking, she happily shoved MC's bed at an absurd speed again, taking herself and her childhood friend back home. Meanwhile, Monika was blissfully dancing around the club room, holding out the stone tablet and looking at her love song engraved on it.

Unfortunately for the club president, she was brought out of her blissful state when the landline phone, now laying on the floor, started ringing.

"Oh joyous." Monika grabbed the phone, placed it back on her desk, and plucked the phone from its base to answer the call. "What else, Sayori?" Despite Monika's expectations as to who was on the other end of the phone, only high-pitched gibberish replied to her.

"Donate to the children's fund?!" Monika exclaimed again before remembering her previous call. "YOU! Who ARE you?! There's not supposed to be anyone else in this reality but me and-"

"Hello!" a certain iconic sound byte happily leaked from not only the phone, but also from behind Monika.

"Wh-who..." The usually calm and collected literature club president whimpered, slowly turning around to face the door, horrified about what was potentially behind her. Between Monika and the door was an iconic figure. The Super Mario 64 model of Mario, holding another landline phone with its wire cut, ominously stood between her and the only exit, his head lowered yet his eyes staring up at Monika.

"It's-a me," the polygonal Mario answered in a much flatter tone.
