Chapter 1: Chapter One

Chapter Text

After that huge war he faced his universe, the missions Miles have been given to are pretty easy.

He was joined into The Spider Society a couple days after the war with The Spot was done. He was given a watch, then a week later, he was assigned his first mission as a member of the Spider Society. Miles was excited when his watch pinged for him to go into the headquarters. He wasn’t excited to face his boss, Miguel O’Hara, though after the whole fiasco between them and all of the spider people.

Well, Miguel did apologize to him right after The Spot was imploded to bits. He still remembers that all that Miguel said to him, bloody and bruised:

“I’m sorry about everything, Miles. I was wrong about you. Someone will bring you to headquarters soon so you can join the Spider Society.”

That man left with no other word. The more Miles thought about Miguel and his apology, the more he felt like his apology was half-assed. Miguel didn’t quite care about him, but Miles knew the man knew he was in the wrong for attacking him in Nueva York. Even after that apology, Miguel still hasn’t talked to him as much as he thought he would. Given that he’s still a hard headed, strict man who is working constantly, basically 24/7, he doesn’t really see him that often anyways.

Every mission Miles was given, he was either by himself, paired up with someone, or paired with a few spider people. Depending on who the anomaly is and what severity the threat is. Miles’ first mission was actually by himself, trying to capture a cartoon version of Electro. That was one of the easiest missions Miles was put on. He remembers coming back to HQ, giving Margo Kess the anomaly with a smile on his face and his blood pumping. The joy in his heart as he walks to Miguel’s office to report the mission.

Miles was still happy after he put in the report, even if Miguel didn’t give him a compliment or any praise from his successful mission. Although, it hurt him that his boss didn’t praise his first mission, but Miles let that feeling go the moment he saw his friends Hobie, Gwen, and Pavitr at the HQ’s cafeteria.

Speaking of his friends, Miles assumes Miguel has been watching the four of them while they are out on missions, because some of his missions have been with only the four of them. Miguel probably realizes that the four of them work pretty well together. Their communication to each other is amazing, and they quickly capture the anomaly. Miles loves when he gets teamed up with his friends. That means he can spend more time with them.

Miguel sent out the four teens to capture a Green Goblin variant from the universe 19842. Usually some Green Goblin variants can be tricky, but this one is more tricky than the other variants. He still has his glider and still uses his bombs to try to stop the spider teens, but he was very quick to get away. Like very quick. The teens have a hard time catching this guy, and it was making Miles frustrated.

Today is going to be one of those days where the mission is going to be more difficult than Miles thought.

Miles, Gwen, Pavitr, and Hobie swing up to a roof of the building, all four of them trying to catch their breaths. The Green Goblin is just flying through the city with the craziest laugh Miles has ever heard.

“How is this guy…. so quick?” Gwen asks them, her hands on her hips as she is trying to get her breathing in control.

Hobie wipes his dirt that was on his vest, “I found out this guy has some turbo crap in his glider.”

“That makes sense! Once we get close to him, he gets farther and farther away.,” Pavitr said.

Miles lets out a huge breath, looking around the city. He catches Goblin not too far, still flying through the city. He sees a small explosion, not far from where the spider teens are standing. He has to think of something quick, before Goblin can do any more damage.

“We can always call for backup…”

“We are not going to call for backup,” Miles quickly lets out, looking at his friends. He didn’t even think about what he said, cause he knew deep down in his heart how this mission is going so far, someone is going to suggest backup. He never wants to call for backup. The missions have been easy for backup to be called. Some more difficult, but no backup is needed. If Miguel trusts him and his friends to capture an anomaly, then he is going to make sure that he gets the job done, backup or not. He already got a plan working in his brain now, and hopefully it will work.

His friends look right back at him. “Do you have a plan Miles?” Gwen asks him after a couple seconds of silence.

Miles walks over to them, and wraps his arms around Hobie and Gwen. The other teens follow his move, ending up making a small huddle. “Hobie, you distract him. Let him chase you. Gwen and I will make a spider web between two buildings. Pav, make sure no civilians are clear of the area just in case Goblin decides to just bomb like flies,” Miles explains to them.

Once again, they were silent for a couple seconds. “Are you sure this is going to work?” Pav asks him with an uncertain tone.

Deep down, Miles is getting somewhat offended his friends are starting to doubt his plans. Usually, they are cool with his plans, but not they are getting a bit worry? He can’t be mad at them now. It’s not the right time to get mad, or argue. “Trust me, it will.”

“We do, but this guy is very quick and he’s kind of clever as well” Gwen said.

If they are going to keep wasting time doubting Miles’ plan, the goblin is going to have time destroying the city. Frustration was rising in his body, but he couldn't focus on his feelings once again. “Fine. I’ll distract him and you and Hobie will make a spider web. We got this. I believe in us.”

The teens nod at him before they break up their huddle. “Let's capture this weird goblin,” Miles hears Pavitr said as he immediately jumps off the roof, swinging to meet The Green Goblin. Goblin dropped a couple more bombs around the city, but luckily, Miles can tell where he is just by the timing of when he dropped the bombs.

The frustration Miles felt a couple minutes ago was quickly released from his body as he continued to swing around the city. He forgets sometimes that swinging around the city calms him down a lot. If school is frustrating him, he’ll just put on his spider suit and cruise around Brooklyn. Usually, crime happens around the time he starts swinging so it would be a perfect time to patrol Brooklyn and also calm his mind and nerves down at the same time.

Before he knows it, he can see Goblin flying through the street, hearing his laughter as he cruises through the street. Miles swings to the top of a building, looking down at the goblin getting closer to him.

“Hey! Ugly goblin!” Miles calls out.

The Green Goblin variant stops his glider and looks up, groans when he sees the spider teen. Miles couldn’t help but grin at his response.

“If you want me, you’ll have to come get me! See you in a bit!” Miles yells out. He starts to run to the opposite side of the building. As he jumps off, he can hear the glider coming closer to him. He starts swinging throughout the city, looking for Gwen and Hobie’s spider nest. He can hear the villain yelling behind him as he tries to get him, but keeps failing.

Miles turns his head after a few moments and sees the glider coming very close to him, as he realizes he uses his turbo to try to get up to him. The Green Goblin was moving too quickly for Miles’ liking. Miles quickly attaches a web to a taller building that was in front of him and swings his body up. He lets go of his web and looks down, seeing that the goblin flys through the spot Miles was a second ago. Miles calms his heart for only a little bit as he sees Green Goblin turn his glider around, targeting it on Miles. He swings in a different direction, but he knows the villain is right behind him. So much of a small break.

“You’re dead to me you stupid spider!” He hears Green Goblin screams out before he cackles.

Miles keeps swinging, but he doesn’t see the big web anywhere. In that moment, he is grateful Miguel gave them earpieces for a time like this. “Guys, where are you making the web?” He yells out.

He hears Gwen speaking through his ear, “We made a web between BankGo and Lifestyle.”

In this universe, Miles realizes that company logos are attached to not only the lower bottom of the buildings, but also at the roof of these buildings. So he can see some of these buildings have a big, shiny logo on top. He doesn't really know why they would do that, but hey, it’s not his universe, so he doesn’t have to worry about it.

As he continues to swing, Miles looks up at the buildings, trying to find the logos for one of the two buildings. The Green Goblin variant is still on his tail, so Miles has to make some zig zag moments so he wouldn’t get caught easily, but with that stupid turbo Goblin has, it's making this journey to his friends a bit more difficult. After a couple moments, he finally sees a BankGo logo shining on top of a building and he races to it.

“Pav, is everyone clear from the area?” Miles asks.

Pavitr sounds so cheerful when he answers him, “Everyone is clear from the area!”

“Are you close Miles?” Gwen asks him.

BankGo and Lifestyle’s logos are getting closer and closer to him. “I am close. Get ready.”

He has it in his heart that his plan will work. He can see Hobie and Gwen’s web attached on the two buildings. The web looks really thick, so there is no way the goblin will escape from the webs. Hope is rising in him as he is close. Here goes nothing.

Just like earlier, Miles swings up to the sky, hearing the glider passing through him. As Miles starts to swing back down, he sees the variant and the glider stuck on the web. The goblin screams as he moves his body around, trying to get out of the web, but he can’t move a single inch.

“The plan work!” Pav exclaims. Miles is smiling underneath his mask. He plants his feet on the ground and walks over to his friends.

“Can’t believe the plan works! That was amazing, Miles,” Gwen said, looking at him.

Miles’ heart flutters a bit from hearing her comment, “Thanks, Gwen.”

Hobie claps his hands before rubbing it together. “Let’s get this pollick and head back to HQ.”

As the group starts walking over to the spider web, the hairs on Miles’ neck start to rise up. His spider senses something is wrong here, especially in this area. Miles looks around, seeing nothing wrong in particular, but he can hear a small beeping noise coming from a distance.

“I hear something,” Miles lets out. Miles feet start to move towards the sound, the beeping noise grows louder. He can hear his friends’ feet shuffling behind him as they all try to find where the beeping noise is coming from.

“Where is it coming from?” Pavitr asks.

“I think it is coming from that green car over there,” he hears Hobie reply. He catches the green car standing a few feet from them, still close to the web where Goblin is still trying to escape. The teens go up to the car, realizing the beeping noise is clearly coming from around the car. Miles looks through the window, along with Gwen, but they don’t see anything. The beeping is still going.

“Uhh guys…” Pav lets out slowly. Miles looks down, seeing Pav on the ground, looking at something underneath the car. He quickly gets on the ground and looks underneath the car, his heart dropped as he sees a bomb attached to the bottom of the car. They only have exactly ten seconds left till it goes off.

Miles jumps up and grabs the car, lifting it up. “GUYS MOVE!!” He screams out as he throws the car away from them, but it doesn't go far before the car ignites. The four teens were blown away from the blast. Miles can hear glass shattering from the buildings surrounding them. He grunts in pain and can feel sharp pain through his shoulder as he lands on the ground. He looks up, seeing the web Gwen and Hobie made destroyed, and The Green Goblin variant and his glider gone.

He is definitely screw.

Well, they got The Green Goblin variant, but with the help of Miguel and two Peter Parkers.

Luckily, with the goblin’s glider destroyed from the blast, the goblin didn’t get far until he was captured and brought back to headquarters. While stuck on the web, the green goblin pressed a small button on his suit that started the bomb on the green car.

As for the four teens, Pavitr was the only person that was seriously injured from the battle. He ended up hurting his leg as he landed on the ground the wrong way from the blast. Everyone else got bruises and cuts from the battle. And they knew they were getting spoken to by the big boss himself.

The teens, masks off, were at Miguel’s office as Miguel paced back and forth in front of them. They were all quiet as they looked at their boss. Pavitr leaning onto Hobie for support so he doesn’t lean on his hurt leg. Miles is a hundred percent ready for Miguel to yell at them, specifically at him letting The Green Goblin run away after the bombing. He knows Miguel has anger issues, and he tries his best to not get on his bad side ever since he joined the spider society. He did a pretty good job, but there will always be a day where he will be facing the bad side of Miguel again. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long, but Miles is prepared.

After a moment of pacing, Miles sees Miguel’s hands on his hips, and lets out a big sigh, moving his head up to look at the teens. “Gwen and Hobie, take Pavitr to the medbay so you guys can get treated for your injuries. Morales, I need to talk to you for a second.”

Miles felt his heart tighten a bit as keeps looking at Miguel. He can feel his friends leaving him. Hobie pats his shoulder giving it a squeeze as he walks away from the office with Pavitr. He turns his head and looks at Gwen. Her eyes are nothing but shown with the words “good luck” plastered on her face. He gives her a grin as she walks away. The door shuts and the air changes completely.

Miles looks back at his boss, seeing the bigger man walking closer to him. Miles was not going to let his one small ounce of fear be shown in front of Miguel. He is standing tall, even though his shoulder is starting to hurt.

“Morales, what were you thinking out there?” Miguel asks him, his voice firm, but Miles swears he can hear gentleness in his tone.

“The bomb was going to go off at any moment. I didn’t want anyone to get hurt, so I just…threw the car away from them,” Miles explained. He start playing with his fingers to try to calm his nerves down.

“That bomb caused damage to two buildings. There were people in the building. Some civilians could’ve been hurt,” Miguel tells him, his voice raising a bit.

“But as far as we know, there was no one that was seriously hurt or killed, so that is a good thing, right…” Miles gives the man a small grin on his face, holding two thumbs up.

The teen and the bigger man were looking at each other for a bit, silence still filled with tension. Miles’ hands drop back to his sides as he can see Miguel looking at him, one of his eyebrows raised. After a moment of staring, Miguel is the first to look away. “I’ll give you credit, your plan was not bad, but I told you guys before if you needed help, there is no trouble calling for backup.”

Miles did not mean to let a groan come out of his mouth, but it did. “We had it under control.”

Miguel, once again, raises his eyebrows. “Really? You had it under control?”

Miles looks away from his boss, his eyes are interested on the black floor. Miguel hasn’t yelled at him yet, and it was making him worry. But he made sure he didn’t show it to the boss. “Yeah…until he brought a surprise bomb to the party, but we would’ve gotten that cover.”

Silence filled the air once again. Miguel is definitely going to yell at Miles for his actions. He was going to ground him and not let him do a mission for at least a week and tell him what a horrible spider man he is….

“Miles, you and everyone else did a good job out there. Next time, if you need backup, don’t be afraid to call for one, está bien ?”

Miles quickly looks up at Miguel, his eyes widened in surprise. Miguel uses his first name for the first time since he joined the society. Miles didn’t know what to say after that response. His mouth kept gaping like a fish trying to survive on land, but all that he could do is nod his head at him. Miguel hums in response before looking away from the teen.

“Go to the medbay and check up on your injuries. I’ll call you guys back for a report,” Miguel tells him.

Miles didn’t say anything. He just turns around and walks away from the office. He was still surprised that Miguel O’Hara, the guy with anger issues, didn’t yell at him for slipping up during the mission. That’s so….strange .

He can’t wait to tell his friends about this!
