Work Text:

There was something captivating about Abdul's eyes as he stared into your very own, an odd look of fondness and quickly-fading exasperation mixed together.

The sun was setting at a slow pace, the heat of the afternoon sun fading into a cool breeze that blew softly through your hair and cooled your head, but did very little to cool the heat within both of you as you stood in the empty alleyway. His hand was hovering at your shoulders, hesitancy apparent with his actions. They soon fell back to his side, defeated with uncertainty.

You were unsure, unsure of everything you felt at that very moment as you stood inches away from the Egyptian fortune teller, your hands clenched and slightly shaky, finding no other place to be except at your sides. Your skepticism towards the events unfolding was a little hard to ignore.

The blood previously soaked into your clothes was starting to dry; the slight pain in your abdomen still apparent as you let out a heavy breath. You both hadn't moved an inch for what felt like an eternity on borrowed time, the only movement being made was the rise and fall of your chest.
You continued to stare through half-lidded eyes, taking in the rough features of his face, and you felt your breath quicken. His face, speckled with blood and dirt, ignited a feeling within you that couldn't quite shake off.

He was beautiful, without a doubt. You couldn't help but feel a bit stark in comparison.

You both stood there for a few more seconds until Abdul decided to make the first move, bringing his calloused hands up to your face with a gentleness that was foreign to you both. He touched your cheek softly with the tips of his fingers, taking note of your unchanged expression.

As though it were a silent acceptance, he moved closer towards you, his face stopping just centimeters away from your own. You could feel his breath hot against your lips, and finding yourself intoxicated by the scent of his robes invading your nostrils.

Your lips twitched as you angled your head towards the taller man, your nervousness increasing tenfold as the distance between you closed at last.

...Until you hear a sudden shout that sounded an awful lot like Polnareff in the distance, causing both of you to snap your heads away from each other and towards the source. Looking at you one last time with a flushed face, Abdul quickly distanced himself from you with a hasty apology.
“...We should go. The others must be ready. Are you feeling well enough to walk?”

You let out a sigh as you pushed yourself off the wall, either out of frustration, or more frustration. “I'm fine, my injury isn't serious. I’m more worried about my clothes.”

He let out a deep chuckle, making your heart flutter. “That’s reassuring to hear. It should be a short walk to the hotel, so we'll have you bandaged up soon enough. Also…” You suddenly felt the warmth radiating off his body as he moved close enough to whisper in your ear. “... We'll surely have more privacy in a hotel room, don't you agree?”

Your breath hitched as the words were spoken, a light blush dusting your cheek at the implications. “Y-yeah, definitely.”

Abdul shone a quick smile at you before moving away and towards the direction of the shout, leaving you a little stunned before making your way as well.
